One extra thing you could add to the trailer. Take some of the scrap pieces of the angle iron and weld to the sides of the trailer so you have a place to attach ratchet straps. Very helpful. Did it to mine.

Wise choice cutting the size way down... I had a converted pop-up to utility trailer that was still full size (6'x14'). The previous owner sold it because everyone always overloaded it. I sold it after my Dad did the same thing and bent the axle.
You can tell people that something only has a 2,000lb rating and it just bounces right off of their skulls. You have to build it so it will only hold its rating in iron or rock or your stuff gets torn up.

I could really use that welder to build the flat deck and frame for my 86 toyota pickup. This truck sat in my father in laws grove for 10 years before he finally agreed to sell it to me. I also deal with salt and from the cab back is toast. I would love to turn this into the daily driveable trail rig I have always wanted.

I know that most guys connect the white ground wire to the trailer frame.. for a "ground"..... but I have better success running the ground wire all the way the whole length of the trailer AND to the towing vehicle via the electrical cable. We've all seen the effects of "a bad ground".... and another ten feet of wire for each rear light, IMO, is well worth the greater electrical reliability.

The beauty of the boat trailer is that is made from galvanized metal and is built to go in the water. My trailer frame is 40 years old and still looks new.

@@christophergreen2328 You obviously don't know anything about aerodynamics. I've seen Andrew Camarata also use those lights on trailers, he says they are far less likely to get damaged than other lights that stick out a lot. He also uses an airless paint sprayer (Graco, not sure if they have those in Canaderp) for painting, seems to make painting a lot faster and easier. This is awesome, keep up the great work!

Nice build, id highly suggest doing a few extra tweeks to the next build though. First the one end of the trailer floor should be left open so if you need to replace any piece of wood you can do that without cutting and re welding. Second would be to add some conduit or a channel to run the wires through keeps them from getting snagged on road debris and looks much cleaner. We used an old weight lifting bar that someone threw out for our gate hinge as that thing wont break. Also using some cut links of chain welding to the frame or rails make great anchors to tie down with. Nice detail with the video :)

You have a nice diverse channel and influenced me to share some techniques on similar projects. I trust you'll appreciate my trailer Jack mod and maybe how I was able to stretch a bucket of EvapoRust to clean a block.
Please keep your videos coming- thank you for sharing!

i used 2x2x1/8 square tube, cap the ends to keep the rust out, some 3/4 plywood for the floor and ramp/gate, 2x4framed 1/2 plywood walls 2x4 stakes, paint all the steel and the outside and bottom of the wood but use water seal on the inside so paint chips don't get mixed into the bulk materials you carry. I recommend the 8 bolt axle or shorten one of those mobile home axles. Pallet for bed, bicycle wheels, 2x4 tongue, duck tape hitch, cardboard and shrinkwrap side panels, Propane lanterns for tail lights.
    9:42 turn the gas on.

I bought a new 14 foot utility trailer about a year ago and I couldn't figure out why they had so much movement in the hinges on the rear gate. Watching your video and how you built the hinges so the gate would lay flat made me think so I went out and sure enough the gate on my trailer is designed to lay down flat. I bought the trailer from a local farm store I doubt any of the employees even know it was designed to do that.
Now that I know I will be laying it down when the trailer is empty.
Love your videos keep up the great work

I need one of those Lincoln welders to build stuff with my 78 year old mom. Shes a tough ole girl. We need to build some railings for her and metal art.

Also, I absolutely buy all my tools with the idea that I am saving money through DIY vs hiring the work out. 12 years or so and I think I have just about all the basics. Still wanting a router, drill press, and my own welder. I have some great welders at work and can do home projects pretty much whenever, but I'd like to start doing welding on the side independently

Great video and love all your videos, I am just about to start a big project. I am moving from Arizona to Arkansas where my wife and I will be building a house, shop, barn, and other buildings from scratch on our 10+ acres. I could really use a new welder, I am ashamed to say I have a old “blue” welder that is falling apart and hardly works, plus mine doesn’t do aluminum or Tig which I really want to learn. Keep up the good work and thanks for all the great videos. John

Yellow matches paint in middle of the road, green matches grass in the ditch. That's how I remember it anyways. That welder would be nice for welding in some patch panels on my next project!

Nice build out I do a fair amount of camping in private campgrounds in the US and ive noticed a lot of old pop ups in their long term storage that look like they are abandoned by the owners usually the tags are expired and they are pushed into the back of the lots i like vintage campers so i almost always look in the storage lots generally in the back of a campground property i specifically look for older Airstreams
