Thank you! I found this video by searching for a comparison video of unfinished cabinets from Lowe’s, Menards, and Home Depot. I have not found that exact video but this was very helpful. A friend of mine bought a kitchen’s worth of cabinets and hired an installer through them also. It took almost an entire year to complete the job due to faulty cabinets. They were all ordered, reordered, back ordered and I’m pretty sure the contractor had his name removed as an installer by the time it was over. My friend had to threaten to sue.
When I replaced the cabinet in my bathroom, I looked at Lowe's, Home Depot and my local Ace Hardware. I ended up getting the sink and the cabinet at Ace Hardware, Lowe's and Home Depot did not have a complete solid wood cabinet, and I was not about to pay $300 for a pressboard cabinet to go into my bathroom. The one I got at Ace is completely hardwood and paid a whole lot less than I would have at the other two places. It is a just a stock cabinet and a stock sink.
Good luck! I’m quite sure much of my experience could have been resolved by having good people in the right place. Hopefully you can make someone else’s much better than my own.
The trick to buying cabinets from the big box stores is to NOT buy what's in stock. Special order all of them and they will come on wrapped pallets. This meaning they haven't been shuffled around by 12 or 100 different ppl before they make it to your kitchen. I got the same identical cabinets and special ordered them all and not one blemish in 8700$ worth of cabinets. Hope this helps someone out there.

well that's quite a racket for "inexpensive" cabinets plus all the hassle and gasoline back and forth to the store - I've seen that lots of people have similar experience at H D - after install they look nice - hickory (?)
I'm not the person to ask about wood variety. I can tell you if it's pine or oak, but aside from that, I'm almost clueless. Officially, the line is called "Denver". I suspect with lost time, paying my help, fuel, and everything else wrapped up in this fiasco, it cost me at least another $600 .... not a good feeling to have to put that out due to the incompetence of business.
Your experience may vary. These were "stock" cabinets. My experience many years ago with custom ordered cabinets was a different scenario .. and a whole lot more expensive one too!
I sincerely hope you didn’t buy your cabinets from Lowe’s. We bought full kitchen cabinets from Lowe’s September 2022. I am still without a kitchen due to cracked drawers, cracked cabinet doors designed poorly. My kitchen sink cabinet is smaller than the one I had prior. Lowe’s installation dept. is horrible they don’t help they didn’t help so I’m stuck with a smaller sink then one I had prior. Stay away !!!
Considering myself fortunate here.... installed an entire kitchen of Lowes cabinets back in 2015 and so far, so good with no complaints. Perhaps my good luck started with a delivery of intact cabinetry with no need for returns. Very sorry to learn of your troubles.

I’ve installed at least 15 maybe 20 kitchens in the past few years and never had this kind of experience…and the answer from Lowe’s was simply to pay more. Oh, and I don’t know if I mentioned it in my videos but Lowe’s actually sold my cabinets to another person after I bought them and I had to wait even longer.

Yeah, a lot of extra effort and waiting happened. The cabinets did turn out good though. I’m satisfied with the final results, just hated the process to get there.

Well, I try to not stay away ... and I don't really want to put too much information out but aside from the 4 weeks between actually buying the cabinets and getting them installed, I have had a lot of other things happen that are beyond my control. I don't want to make excuses, but when life throws too much at you at one time, it is really difficult to stay positive and focused. So here's to a better tomorrow!
All of the big box stores use outside contractors. I think sometimes it’s only those that don’t have a good business already so they rely on the material supplier to send them work.
I also used Lowes cabinets in the past. For what I needed them for, it was fine. However, I was not pleased with the overall quality. I new I would be selling my place, so it was more of a short-term investment for something that looked good. I went a different direction on my current kitchen. For a rental, I agree, you need something that is going to last.
It is. They looked nice and once I got cabinets that weren’t completely broken, they installed fine and are actually pretty nice. The service not so much.
Those cabinets are what is called DENVER HICKORY IN-STOCK. those get damaged really EZ during shipping and handling. Depending the store they have to be ordered and it takes 7 days for delivery. LOWES always honor all price if replacement is damage.
I wish that were true. They not only tried to charge me a higher price but also tried to charge me restocking, delivery and take away my zero interest rate on their card.
yes you pretty much right i had 8 cabinets delivered 3 were unrepairable If i had to do it all over i would just pick them up. But that's difficult because Lowes might have 5 cabinets but not the 3 other sizes you need. i feel your pain. But they are low cost, you could easily pay 2 times as much. i think i spent more times getting the cabinets than installing.
Its masterbrand cabinets. I hate selling them. The leave the factory like that and go through countless hands. They are fragile. Get Diamond Express. its 14day turn around and solid ply

I have since found a supplier that ships RTA cabinets that are actually better quality for practically the same price. The only reason I have been reluctant to change is because of the good financing options. I can usually float big purchases for 12-24 months with zero interest.

I hate the cabinet over my fridge!! It is totally useless without my ladder!! Plus with a side by side the doors don’t open all the way!!! That house is going to be gorgeous..
My dad went through the sane thing. Oh and get this... he returned to cabinets. The next day he ordered 2 more since they were out if stock in store. 2 weeks later they were delivered.... the exact same broken cabinets that he just purchased!!!! When he bought them the first time, he had put a Yellow line down the back to center it on the wall where he needed... thar sane Yellow line was on the "new" cabinets! Still broken in all the sane spots but with added dents and missing hardware!!! We haven't used lowes in 5 years. My dad finally just went back to building them himself.
I feel your pain. This is a good lesson to learn from. I had my Cabnits replaced by Lowe’s I never check-up on the condition. I took them for there word.

I wish they would just provide products that aren't poor quality, but alas it all comes down to poor quality employees either knowingly boxing up and shipping damaged goods OR employees handling the cabinets in such a haphazard way as to damage them with no regard to the consumer. Neither is good. I expected better.
Were these just stock off the shelf cabinets or was it one of the other custom brands? They have multiple different vendors, so I’m curious which company it was.

I understand the need to do refund/repurchase because it makes the paperwork for taxes significantly easier. How about they just don’t sell defective products and deliver them. I also didn’t mention how that process eliminates special financing deals because by getting a refund, I don’t qualify for the 12-24 months zero interest on the original purchase AND the new purchase doesn’t qualify because it’s not as high price as the whole original order.
Looks like the cabinet doors are made decent and then the rest of it is trash. Nice looking car with junk inside..lol That's why it can be better if local cabinet shop makes the cabinets even if more cost the quality tends to be better and they can fix an issue quickly versus months of time.
Absolutely true! But the biggest problem when doing these projects is always the cost. Once the you have decent cabinets installed, they can last a very long time. I have similar ones in my own home that have lasted for nearly 30 years. It’s more about how you treat them than anything else. And who knows…I’m the forever optimist. 🫤
I went to the store in person and showed my backside! I’ll not even get into the fiasco after they broke up my initial order and sold my cabinets that I had already paid for to another person.
I think they were trying to save money and give you some returns. Instead of saying we don’t have these on hand. Just a thought. Also I’m glad you know what your doing, what about other people? Yikes.

I am finding this to be partially true, but their cabinets also suck. The last set of cabinets from Home Depot didn’t last 8 months before starting to fall apart.

I have to drive about 40 miles per day to commute to work. I will take different roads and look for prospects. I also find them on social media and I also buy from surplus property lists, tax sales and foreclosures.
Those cabinets sure do look nice. I know they weren't cheap. It's a shame Lowes was so crappy about it. Yeah I really like that kitchen. About that over the fridge cabinet if it weren't for my 6'10 son I wouldn't have no use for it either. Good idea there.

Stay away from both Lowe's and Home depot. They overcharge on cabinets and the installation is absolutely insane!
I do all of my own installation. I would never have them do it for that exact reason.

simple buy a replacement cabinet then use that receipt to return the damaged one.
The ones in stock were broken as well. It took 4 times to get decent ones and they had to order them but wouldn’t deliver.

Oh they did replace the cabinets, but it was a long process to get cabinets that were not damaged. Could have been much better experience.

I understand the need to do refund/repurchase because it makes the paperwork for taxes significantly easier. How about they just don’t sell defective products and deliver them.
I also didn’t mention how that process eliminates special financing deals because by getting a refund, I don’t qualify for the 12-24 months zero interest on the original purchase AND the new purchase doesn’t qualify because it’s not as high price as the whole original order.

Looks like the cabinet doors are made decent and then the rest of it is trash. Nice looking car with junk inside..lol That's why it can be better if local cabinet shop makes the cabinets even if more cost the quality tends to be better and they can fix an issue quickly versus months of time.
Absolutely true! But the biggest problem when doing these projects is always the cost.
Once the you have decent cabinets installed, they can last a very long time. I have similar ones in my own home that have lasted for nearly 30 years. It’s more about how you treat them than anything else.
And who knows…I’m the forever optimist. 🫤
Lowe’s do better! After spending the money for a full kitchen, it should be a near perfect install.

I went to the store in person and showed my backside! I’ll not even get into the fiasco after they broke up my initial order and sold my cabinets that I had already paid for to another person.
I think they were trying to save money and give you some returns. Instead of saying we don’t have these on hand. Just a thought.

Home Depot has always been a much better experience 😉
I am finding this to be partially true, but their cabinets also suck. The last set of cabinets from Home Depot didn’t last 8 months before starting to fall apart.

I have to drive about 40 miles per day to commute to work. I will take different roads and look for prospects. I also find them on social media and I also buy from surplus property lists, tax sales and foreclosures.
Those cabinets sure do look nice. I know they weren't cheap. It's a shame Lowes was so crappy about it. Yeah I really like that kitchen. About that over the fridge cabinet if it weren't for my 6'10 son I wouldn't have no use for it either. Good idea there.

upper doors don't match
Only that some of the doors have more grain variation than others. In spite of all the issue he had, I think they look really nice.
They are the same wood, but not fully adjusted. There is a wide variety of coloring but I think it’s due to the graining of the wood.
