Just wrapping up a few sets for my place. Went with unfinished beech. Buyers beware, while this video shows straight unfinished installs - something I contemplated and wish Id stuck with after watching this, DO NOT underestimate the added cost of upgrade hardware and the tools and time necessary to finish yourself and dont expect a top notch professional look when done. I stained a set. This wood does not take stain well, especially the door faces. The painted sets due to the recessed panels requires me to set up a spray pop up booth. Expect multiple rounds of sanding, painting, finishing. Id gladly paid more for finished cabinets. Still rewarding. I did a true black stain and sanded the edges to allow the natural grain. provides a 50s look also a bit academia like Harry Potter. If you have the time and tools, great value for the buck.

I just bought the same cheap unfinished cabinets you did for for my home and they are definitely cheap! I did switch out the hardware for soft close and i think it will help the cabinets last a little bit longer.
The Home Depot guy told me these cabinets are only rated for 3 to 5 years of use in rentals before they're usually replaced.

That is awesome insight and information, I agree with that timeframe but yes they definitely need the hardware and soft close

How do cabinets fall apart if you're just opening & closing the door(s) I understand rentals being beat up but if you are the homeowner these cabinets should last forever. Are people having Mosh pit parties in their kitchen?

Don't know if it is a new line but the Hampton Bay Avondale line is all plywood and really solid with all soft close drawers and doors. I was really surprised by the quality. As a general contractor having done bare bones renos, to absolute top of the line installs, for the price I don't think these can be beat. Only thing I didn't like is with the 3 drawer base cabinets the top drawer front is flat as opposed to a shaker style like the bottom 2. Don't understand this design choice but last customer loved it so to each their own.

I'm really impressed with the care, quality, and investment you made, overall, in a rental kitchen. I know for a fact the appliances you put in, right down the the kitchen sink, are not cheap! This looks like a kitchen an actual homeowner would invest in for his/her own kitchen! Great job!! We're in the process of purchasing Home Depot cabinets. Ikea seems amazing, but it does seem like a lengthy, tedious process and we frankly just don't have the time or patience! Heritage cabinets are garbage. These are the cheapest most awful things to install. You can't inspect them before buying and many of them have busted out corners. I installed 5 uppers in 20 minutes, I hit every stud and there no "extra" holes in the backs of my cabinets. The base cabinets were a much different story but I should ad that there is no glue to join the face frames, only a ga-zillion 3/16th in staples. The base cabinets have no 45 degree corner pieces to screw down the counter tops so you have to buy appropriate brackets and make a jig so you install them all the same height, then you need to install a 3/4 in thick spacer block to the counter top and you know why? If you put your counter top onto the cabinet the damn drawers won't open which leads me to another dilemma. When you add your 3/4 in block and put the counter top on the cabinets you can see so much day light over your dish washer you want to rip out the works and drag the whole kit and caboodle to the managers office and tell him to shove it. In addition to that great flaw, the painted cabinet screws they sell you are of such soft metal the heads strip out and if you can get one to bite the head snaps off. Plus they don't self tap worth a shit but they drift off in another direction missing the second piece...so frustrating...what's happened to American quality? Why do I pay premium prices for crapola?
