Can't even cancel because everything else with what I need is expensive almost double as that. The quality is not good. I just don't know what to do with it 😭
My husband and I just recently bought a house and wanted to remodel our bathroom, we were going to get a vanity from home depot but now after watching this video I'm not sure where to buy one. Looking at the Comments I saw that you recommended J&k Cabinetry but there isn't one where we live. Do you know any good places to buy one is Las Vegas?
Aimee there are probably good cabinets all around you just like JK cabinets. Just make sure you are getting all wood, metal corner brackets, soft close doors and drawers. Get on Nextdoor app and ask, tons of people will respond with stores to try out,
Excellent video and you said it so well and so truthful! It’s robbery during broad daylight the cost of vanities! I live inCanada and it’s $1300-$3000 and most of the cabinets are made like you said cheaply with terrible materials that come apart in a year if you are lucky!
I just finished building a log home. We got custom made solid hickory cabinets from an amish cabinet maker. When we were doing some of the finish work inside the house.. one of the builders had a 18' ladder in the middle of the great room.. and it fell over and smashed down onto the top of the kitchen island (the counter top wasn't done yet). It left two tiny little dimples on the top of the cabinet. It hardly damaged it. If it were a Home Depot island... it would have been crushed and flattened to the floor. lol.
Ok but I have a lot of those super cheap vanities the builder installed in my houses 20+ years ago and they are all still working just fine so I'm not really seeing the problem here.
You are in luck and you probably keep a nice tidy house and never have a leak. But it's people that don't use the exhaust fan in their bathroom and so the bathrooms get all humid whenever they take a shower and over the years it will start to expand the particle board and the vanities and cause them to start disintegrating. One leak in the bathroom can change all of that however as well
God bless you for this! I'm trying to help a client who's doing a quick reno after house burnt down & the contractor recommended Home depot vanities! I went there yesterday &* was appalled.
Yup! The whole DIY craze pulling out old solid cabinets for cheap cabinets… people flipping houses with cheap stuff. I can tell and will not buy a house where this has happened. The DIY craze was just a ploy to sell crap. Keep the old cabinets and give it a facelift!!!!
They are standard sizes. A 36" wide vanity, you buy the 37" vanity top. The 48" wide vanity you buy the 49" wide vanity top. they have always fit for me
I buy them all the time when they are on special buy for $100 for rentals. The special buy is $100 to $200 for a vanity + top and mirror. Good deal. Never had a problem.
@@jeffostroff Yea I would not pay any more than that.... 300+ you can get a nicer set at the liquidation lots for $200 without a mirror. Always buy top and vanity together never pay more than 200 for the HD ones. Good for rentals and flips. There are some going for $1000 to $2000 - don't pay retail go to liquidators.
I had my vanities custom made because of the crappy craftsmanship and overpriced garbage they were selling at the local Lowe's, Home Depot and other big box stores. To my surprise the price was about the same more or less but solid wood. This was two years ago before covid hit. Now everything is a lot higher because of the wood shortage.
Thank you so much for publishing this video. It was right on point with what I experienced with a recent vanity purchase for The powder room. Cheap particle board that only looks good for a distance. I need to remodel my master bath with a 72 in vanity. We do have a J&K Cabinetry in Atlanta so I'll check them out. Do they build large vanities and is there pricing competitive with the Home Depot custom cabinets you were showing in the video?
Yes, their pricing was very impressive. We just did a 66" vanity for my friend this week, with granite installed by stone company on top of it. What we did was we got a 27" base vabinet, then 2 smaller 18" wide base cabinets, one on either side, plus two 1.5" spacers, for a total of 66". the 2 smaller units both just have 3 drawers on them.
This was very informative, in the process of shopping for a vanity and the quality in m HD seems very cheap. I had on expensive one that was really nice but the craftman ship was horrible. when I order would I be getting the same crappy quality? the store said it was because its a display.
You have to check with the storm employees and confirm that what you are ordering is solid wood in no particle board. You also want to make sure there's no MDF in it which is medium density fiber board which is essentially like a highly compressed cardboard which is just as cheap and Justice acceptable to water absorption as the particle board is.
@@jeffostroff it was solid wood but the doors and drawer design looked like someone stay a mile and threw them together. The reviews online weren’t the best either about the craftsmanship. Many thanks at least I know what to look for when I head to HD tomorrow.
can attest to the absolutely incredible amounts of moisture particle boards can soak up, esp in high humidity weather. bought a wardrobe 3 years back ( suckered in by the finish & cheap price, my bad ) and the damn thing in buckling ever so slowly but its noticeable now. Realized that when i replaced the hinges which had rusted away and broken, cause refitting the doors was a pain.
Thanks for this video. There is a J&K Cabinetry in my area so I will check them out. I was trying to avoid the particle board stuff I am glad I found this video.
I have the white vanity that's in the thumbnail. I'm not exactly sure how old it is, because it was here when we bought the house in '09. We're replacing it because we decided to remodel. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it, we just wanted something a little more modern.
We just ordered Aberdeen dove grey medicine cabinets, double 72” vanity and linen cabinet. Everything has arrived except the vanity. I decided to read the reviews and, yikes!!! That’s what brought me to you. Thanks a lot. I think we’ll return this stuff and go to the sit down.
I got a particle board vanity from Home Depot with a top for 180. 36 inches , it also came with a mirror I realize this won’t last that long but realistically if I have no leaks , how long can o expect it to last just with the steam from the shower .?
I just installed one for a friend, similar $189 deal, pure garbage! As long as you can ventilate the bathroom, you'll get 10 years out of the vanity. Ours started swelling at the bottom.
Can you do anything to make something like this last longer? Like a Poly coat or something? And on the drawers, can they be reinforced with a bigger nail or screws?
Thanks for your efforts on this video. I’m about to go vanity shopping and the information in your video will help me make the right decision. Thank you again.
I have been buying all my kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities from JK cabinets. Sometimes I will buy the $500 Roveland model from Lowes which is all wood, and comes with marble top and sink.
There's a couple of ways you can do this you can go to the cabinet department at Home Depot or Lowe's, and sit down with him in order the better quality cabinets which of course cost a lot more, and with today's environment and shorter Here's who knows how long it will take to come in. My preferred method that I've been doing in the last six years is I just order from J&K cabinets and I have them deliver them right to my site and they are always accurate on the delivery day and time as well. I usually pay the extra $20 per cabinet box to have them assemble it. It is well worth it. Sometimes I just show up at their showroom and will pick something up if I'm in our rush but their stuff is all high quality dovetail drawers soft close doors fully extending drawers etc. There in major cities see if they have them
I’m in a the middle of a bathroom project and all the big box stores has all junk press-wood cabinets, they don’t last! However a good built cabinet 36” wide is over $650 on up! I will keep looking.
Yes. Also say you buy a 30" cabinet, you can buy prefab vanity tops at Home Depot, 31" which allows 1/2" overhang on either side of the vanity. A 36" wide vanity gets a 37" vanity top
Thanks, Jeff, but I discovered this video a week too late. I know that I could have built my own, better, vanity but I can't get to my tools in the garage due to too much junk piled up. I was in a hurry. Haste makes waste. That's the old & apt saying.
@@jeffostroff The previous leak is the reason we replaced the old sink & vanity. Oh, the "joy" of home owner maintenance, repair, replacement. There is always something to do.
Is it okay to buy one of the cheaper ones if its going to be in a half bathroom that's rarely used, I found one on lowes for under 90. The current one in my half bath is soo old ugly and outdated. I just need something that's under 24.5 inches.
Yes, Angela, it is your comfort level. Our half bath gets used by kids every day, and we always monitor it for leaks, so our builder gave us a garbage vanity, but we have managed to keep it dry, and fixed on leak already a couple of years ago.
Great video! Most people are ignorant, they just don't know so it's not really their fault. Why would anybody give a thumbs down. I think in general HD is too expensive.
You saved me right on time when I almost signed to buy vanity from Home Depot sent by my contractor. So I sent your video to open his eyes. No matter what I buy I still pay the same labor charge. So why not buy a better quality than these cheap cardboard materials vanity.
Thank you..I'm just now looking for a Bathroom Vanity I did see sinks & tops at Home Depot that I liked..but didn't know all that about Vanities .Thanks
In reality, staples/brads and glue are fine for drawers like this. The glue is doing most of the work. But with everything else, you're right, HD is overpriced. Particle board works, but doesn't compare to plywood, and is not going to last as long.
@@jeffostroff totally agree. But unless you have a leak or something, it probably won't melt from shower steam as long as the bathroom is properly vented. I'm using some 1998 particle board cabinets from my parents' old kitchen for basement storage, and they are still solid. Totally builder grade stuff, but holding up well. That being said, I'm building my own maple plywood/solid wood cabinets right now, so I know the difference.
@@jimmypautz It's hard to predict all the things that can go wrong. Years of bathroom humidity during steamy showers and hot baths even with the fan can still make the particle board expand and bloat up, then crumble. I t also delaminates the Formica. Once that happens, more particle board gets exposed. Then you have bathroom fans that stop working, and homeowners stop using it, or tenants don't call the landlord. It's a vicious cycle.
We use J&I cabinets on powerline in pompano. If you sit down with The Home Depot cabinet sales people they can order your higher quality but much more expensive wood vanities through special order.
I went to home depot a couple of days ago and I was observing exactly the same thing. Your video confirms my suspicion. I can 'smell' a poor quality furniture a mile away. True that, the should be outlawed for wet places. They are just 'hustling' us now :)
Thank you! you taught me something today on wood. Funny thing tho I watched the video after I bought that cream colored vanity you showed and talked about! I'll hope and pray that mine doesn't get wet and warp! But, no teenagers or kids(water spills)here so that's good!
Most vanities are 24" or 30", 36", 48" etc. unless you have one custom built. Try Wayfair for 24 and 30" cabinets. Also see if they have a JK cabinets in your city, they ar ein many larger population cities, that's where I get all my kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities.
@@jeffostroff thanks, that's my never ending issue the fact that there is a nook for where the vanity goes. So if I order a 24in then there will be a 3in space and the 30in won't fit. So I guess I have to go the custom way.
You just saved me some money and I just purchased a house and could not figure out the material of the vanity. It’s crumbling at the bottom because it partial board. Wow thanks
Thanks for the info - we are in the market for a vanity and was looking in Home depot today. looked as some you showed and was impressed with them, but my ignorance of this hardware prevailed. We will go to Lowes also to see what they have , but aware of what to look for. I just don t know any shops like you talk of so time for my homework--again thanks
I just ordered a makeup vanity online from them, thankfully it'll be I'm my bedroom away from humidity for the most part, but I'm gonna check out these things when it comes and maybe just have my husband help me build one in the future if this one breaks down
@@jeffostroff where I live in Puerto Rico everyone is buying pvc vanitysand kitchens cabinets. Is specially good on bathrooms cause of the humidity they say.
Sometimes those narrow ones can be hard to find I'm working now to try to find a 19 inch or 20 inch wide for a very small bathroom in a small doll house as we call them that was built back in the 1940s. Try to see if they have ajc cabinets in your city they have them in many major cities and they might have a vanity that narrow . Otherwise you're going to have to go online and like Wayfair and all the other sites in start searching but they get kind of pricey no matter what make sure you're buying solid wood do not take any particle board or compressed board make sure that the item specifically states it is made of solid wood and try to find soft close doors and drawers if there are any on there
You get what you pay for alot of these vanities cost alot of money for good quality...if your working on a budget to redo your bathroom like me I found a 48 inch vanities for 299$ from a liquidation warehouse its a lowes or home depot model...compared to 800 to 1000$ dollars!
Before I watched this video I honestly refused to buy at Home Depot and went to floor decor . I am hoping I made the right choice there. I didn’t see them like Home Depot though.
I was in floor and decor last week and was very appalled at the same type of garbage vanities they sell on there as well mostly particleboard and thermofoil skin coatings over the door panels very disappointing. also open the doors to any of the vanities at floor and decor annual see up in the back corners the same cheap plastic braces with one staple maybe 2 staples if you're lucky
Wow thanks very informative, I painted mine to save money ,just need a new vanity top didnt even think to look inside the vanities at lowes just the outside of them
They will do OK as long as they don't get wet, but after several years in a damp bathroom they will start to soak up the moisture in the air from hot showers, and they will start to bloat it up and crumble
Thank you! I'm shopping for vanities right now and was about to get them from either Home depot or Lowes. Can you recommend where I can get better quality vanities?
I saw this video 3 days to late! Just bought one of those cheaply made vanities for $300. 😪hopefully it works out. I now subscribe so I dont miss important info like this
Just be extra diligent on your bathroom Renee, and make sure you don't ever have leaks, or even steam collecting on mirrors, which also causes particle board vanities to bloat.
My wife was in love with the same crap. I have a novice wood working shop. I told her to find a sink and faucet and I will build a rustic wooden one made with the proper wood and sealant for moisture plagued areas. Rip off artists.
Probably less of an issue in a powder room with no shower. Just keep it dry, and leak free. Even fancy 100% real wood, won’t like a water leak. Guess it’s time for Fischer Price 100% plastic cabinets.
I buy from ? J&K Cabinets, they might have one in your city. I have also bought some from Lowes if they are all wood, come with sink and vanity top. $500 to $600
For some reason the response from the person that I responded to yesterday was removed, so hereby a new try: What if the description says "Solid wood and MDF"?
Just got a Aberdeen Bathroom vanity it was 48 inches. It looked really good but the drawers don’t open only two of them do I looked all over for TH-cam videos and instructions about it nobody has said anything to fix and pull the pins out the pens were already pulled out but it didn’t work we are going to return it

Get on Nextdoor app and ask, tons of people will respond with stores to try out,
Hi Jeff, I live in Fort Lauderdale do you have any recommendations where to find good vanities in broward or Miami dare county?
Excellent video and you said it so well and so truthful! It’s robbery during broad daylight the cost of vanities! I live inCanada and it’s $1300-$3000 and most of the cabinets are made like you said cheaply with terrible materials that come apart in a year if you are lucky!
The vanities at Costco are awesome. You can get the better vanities from Home Depot, but you have to special order them.
@@jeffostroff what is your opinion of the Winslow sold only at HD online.
If it were a Home Depot island... it would have been crushed and flattened to the floor. lol.
Yes, a great way to cut Home Depot particle board counters!
One leak in the bathroom can change all of that however as well
Thanks for the info. but you did not say where you get the good vanity from
Hi. Where should I buy the vanity?
I've been buying my vanities from J&K cabinets maybe they have one in your city they have them in several major cities
8:20 I remember this tag on the scarf:
'100 percent silk
feeling polyester'
Yes, subliminal advertising at its finest. some marketers are geniuses at messing with your mind.
I prefer new solid wood cabinets
so if i buy like u say.. how do i know the home dopot top will fit my vanity,, thanx for the video
That is a great price and they will work fine until they get wet
Now everything is a lot higher because of the wood shortage.
you got in the right time
Thank you so much for publishing this video.
Glad I could help!
What about Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF)? How does that handle bathroom humidity?
They are fine too, as long as they don't get wet
@@jeffostroff thank you for the information, my friend. I appreciate it.
Can you recommend some good websites that sell great quality vanities?
I have the white vanity that's in the thumbnail. I'm not exactly sure how old it is, because it was here when we bought the house in '09. We're replacing it because we decided to remodel. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it, we just wanted something a little more modern.
Home depot cabinets are fine..agreed
I live in Coral Springs. I need a 51" x 21" vanity with top. Where can I go?
We just ordered Aberdeen dove grey medicine cabinets, double 72” vanity and linen cabinet. Everything has arrived except the vanity. I decided to read the reviews and, yikes!!! That’s what brought me to you. Thanks a lot. I think we’ll return this stuff and go to the sit down.
Awesome, back to the drawing baord!
Very true. These stores tend to sell subgrade or overplaced items. I've started looking at other stores actually
I have been buying all my kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities from JK cabinets. Sometimes I will buy the $500 Roveland model from Lowes which is all wood, and comes with marble top and sink.
You said dont buy those but which ones should we and from where?
There in major cities see if they have them
@@jeffostroff we have one here! Whats their pricing like? 👀
I’m in a the middle of a bathroom project and all the big box stores has all junk press-wood cabinets, they don’t last!
However a good built cabinet 36” wide is over $650 on up! I will keep looking.
Keep in mind, not much room in that bathtub
Thanks for the video. I am not to far from you. Could you tell me where you buy from? I am looking for a 36" x 16-18" deep
J&K Kitchens and bath in pompano beach on powerline rd. I usually deal with Leah Wong
@@jeffostroff ok thank you so much.
I just installed one of these vanities from Home Depot. Wish I would’ve watched this before I bought it. How long will these things last?
30 years if there is no moisture
@@jeffostroff thank you for the response... is there anything I can do to help protect it and secure it better? Thanks again
@@02phenom Not just do what you can to keep it dry
How do I measure for vanity top on my existing cabinet's. Do I just measure the existing counter top?
Yes. Also say you buy a 30" cabinet, you can buy prefab vanity tops at Home Depot, 31" which allows 1/2" overhang on either side of the vanity. A 36" wide vanity gets a 37" vanity top
@@jeffostroff Thank you!
Thanks, Jeff, but I discovered this video a week too late. I know that I could have built my own, better, vanity but I can't get to my tools in the garage due to too much junk piled up. I was in a hurry. Haste makes waste. That's the old & apt saying.
Just be diligent about making sure you never have a leak in the bathroom
@@jeffostroff The previous leak is the reason we replaced the old sink & vanity. Oh, the "joy" of home owner maintenance, repair, replacement. There is always something to do.
Me, too
Is it okay to buy one of the cheaper ones if its going to be in a half bathroom that's rarely used, I found one on lowes for under 90.
@@jeffostroff okay thanks for the reply!
So true! Bought a particle board vanity a long time ago for a laundry sink. Warped just from changing the plumbing. Never again…
Yes, those are so super cheap
Great video! Most people are ignorant, they just don't know so it's not really their fault. Why would anybody give a thumbs down. I think in general HD is too expensive.
Costco ha shad some nice vanities lately for agreta price with the granite tops and sinks included and power and USB outlets in this.
@@jeffostroff thx
You saved me right on time when I almost signed to buy vanity from Home Depot sent by my contractor. So I sent your video to open his eyes. No matter what I buy I still pay the same labor charge. So why not buy a better quality than these cheap cardboard materials vanity.
This popped up as we are looking to replace our bathroom vanity...and yes everything seemed cheap...Thank you. Will look for your suggestion.
Glad to help Mary!
Thank you..I'm just now looking for a Bathroom Vanity I did see sinks & tops at Home Depot that I liked..but didn't know all that about Vanities .Thanks
I'd also add that any sort of leak will destroy the particle board pretty quickly.
yes, and spill on the floor, and even worse, humid bathrooms from poor exhaust fans
In reality, staples/brads and glue are fine for drawers like this. The glue is doing most of the work. But with everything else, you're right, HD is overpriced. Particle board works, but doesn't compare to plywood, and is not going to last as long.
Particle board works until it encounters humidity
Where is your vanity supplier located? I live in Miami springs fl
I usuallly buy from JK kitchen and bath cabinets in Pompano on powerline
Thanks Jeff that’s also my Home Depot in Coral Springs now I know what to look for where do you recommend to buy a good vanitie
Thanks for sharing
Thank you! you taught me something today on wood. Funny thing tho I watched the video after I bought that cream colored vanity you showed and talked about! I'll hope and pray that mine doesn't get wet and warp! But, no teenagers or kids(water spills)here so that's good!
Keeping our fingers crossed court!
@@jeffostroff hahahaa thanks! Lol
What about the cabinets that are wood and mdf? Those any better?
I prefer solid wood over MDF and particle board
I need a vanity, the space in my bathroom measures at 27in. I'm in NYC, is there a website I can purchase a good vanity from.
@@jeffostroff Where can I see pictures for J&K vanities? I actually need 3 in miami. THX
You just saved me some money and I just purchased a house and could not figure out the material of the vanity. It’s crumbling at the bottom because it partial board. Wow thanks
Glad I could help!
Glad it was helpful!
I just ordered a makeup vanity online from them, thankfully it'll be I'm my bedroom away from humidity for the most part, but I'm gonna check out these things when it comes and maybe just have my husband help me build one in the future if this one breaks down
Should be OK in the bedroom
What about the pvc ones.? I got one
No, don't like them, how does it work for you?
@@jeffostroff where I live in Puerto Rico everyone is buying pvc vanitysand kitchens cabinets. Is specially good on bathrooms cause of the humidity they say.
Any good spots..for a 24 inch restroom vanity around Los Angeles area, that you know about?
Sometimes those narrow ones can be hard to find I'm working now to try to find a 19 inch or 20 inch wide for a very small bathroom in a small doll house as we call them that was built back in the 1940s. Try to see if they have ajc cabinets in your city they have them in many major cities and they might have a vanity that narrow . Otherwise you're going to have to go online and like Wayfair and all the other sites in start searching but they get kind of pricey no matter what make sure you're buying solid wood do not take any particle board or compressed board make sure that the item specifically states it is made of solid wood and try to find soft close doors and drawers if there are any on there
@@jeffostroff thx, for that info
You get what you pay for alot of these vanities cost alot of money for good quality...if your working on a budget to redo your bathroom like me I found a 48 inch vanities for 299$ from a liquidation warehouse its a lowes or home depot model...compared to 800 to 1000$ dollars!
Yes, solid wood is where it's at
Before I watched this video I honestly refused to buy at Home Depot and went to floor decor .

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it!
We got this for our renovations but I just saw your video… how long would they last approximately?
They will do OK as long as they don't get wet, but after several years in a damp bathroom they will start to soak up the moisture in the air from hot showers, and they will start to bloat it up and crumble
Thank you! I'm shopping for vanities right now and was about to get them from either Home depot or Lowes. Can you recommend where I can get better quality vanities?
I usually order mine from JK Cabinets. They are in most major cities.

Just be extra diligent on your bathroom Renee, and make sure you don't ever have leaks, or even steam collecting on mirrors, which also causes particle board vanities to bloat.
Thank you and we love your TH-cam Channel telling truth!
Do vanities usually come with the basin?
sometimes yes, have to check the box. Sometimes I like t buy the turn key solution.
What about the argument that solid wood warps over time? It's that valid?

Yes, nothing beats real wood
Probably less of an issue in a powder room with no shower. Just keep it dry, and leak free. Even fancy 100% real wood, won’t like a water leak. Guess it’s time for Fischer Price 100% plastic cabinets.
