50 grit too rough you will never get rid of those sand scratches. The old paint isnt peeling so id just sand it smooth and call it prepped. If removing old paint was desired then chemical paint stripper is your best bet. If you must sand use your shop vac equipped with a dust bag. That sander will easily accept the hose and boomski dust extraction.

Tack cloth is good for removing the dust and waterproof shelf liner can help afterward. Maybe its just me, but I prefer the inside of the cabinets to be lighter so you can see inside more easily when looking for things. The hook thing to hang the doors up is interesting. Wish I'd thought of that for my vanity doors but they are old plywood. Another way to do it would be to have two hooks so the doors don't move around so much. I don't usually paint the insides of the doors so I'd probably use loops on the back and S hooks to hold it on the bar. I don't have strong fingers so a drill bit or screwdriver would be good for moving the hooks. I'll have to see if I can set up something like this in my workshop but I'd use regular spray paint as I don't have the fancy paint sprayer. I'd probably hang stuff a little bit higher up so I wouldn't have to bend as far to spray underneath- I don't bend well. LOL. I'd rather have to use a stepstool or ladder to paint the top than have to bend down.
If you’re around the corner from Home Depot it is definitely more efficient to hold off on starting to sand for 15 minutes while you run out and get proper grit sand paper instead of wasting your time pushing through with 220 to tear through two layers of paint one of which likely being latex based
Also never sand material directly beside wet paint or primer… that’s a simple one even a diy guy knows that, you’re kicking up dust and particulates and they’re falling in the wet paint now you have tonnes of floaters and spots that to get a professional finish you have to sand out or in your case, landlord special and paint over

N0 -if you change colors by just shoving the pickup in the new can the paint ends up being a blend of the 2 colors. You end up with a paint job where the color is a gradient changing from the old color to the new. It can take 1/2 gallon to get all the old paint out. You'll end up with a different shade until all the old color is gone. Just clean the machine, or have your primer tinted to the finish color. Also, you really ought to wear a mask. Curious why the vacuum isn't used with sander ...
Is this the only acceptable way to paint cabinets? That sprayer seems fantastic but I'd rather not purchase one for a small project. Cheers! ❤
Looks great... but no masking of the windows?
Jeff loves to live on the wild side. You'll see when you get our age lol.
just don't spray at the window no problem. Cheers!
All that 220 dust straight into your primer!
60 grit for the prep? 220 grit for the finish. Correct?
yup!
no mask! love it!
Like breathing toxins?
??
Did he say SW Evergreen Moss? That's a pretty color.
Evergreen FOG "Got it!"
I've got a modular home, the cabinets have some kind covering on it that came from the manufacturer. Do I need to try and remove or lightly sand and primer it
Love your videos 🎉❤
when in doubt scuff and prime with a flat oil. Cheers!
I can do two of these in a day easy
Have you ever painted thermafoil cabinets?
B4 or after the thermofoil delaminated. Lol
Painting over stained cabinets?
Most people have know idea what the color is in side their cabinets.
Had me at "pain in the butsky". 🤩
Drink when he says
- Less is more
- That's not goin' anywhere
- Know the end from the beginning
Any other Jeff sayings??
Perfect every time!
That's money in the bank
Here we go with another banger!!!
Cheers!
bro this is 4000 in sweat equity. its a wash. not to mention it being done right.
A favorite color and a classy look
Great job , What tip did u use Jeff ?
the one that comes with the sprayer. Cheers!
Is that the project plus or x5, x7
If it cost you 600 on a 4000 quote...how many hours did you spend and what would you bill yourself out at per hour?
@hoorayforyoutoob diy'ers tackle projects in their FREE time. A Penney saved is a Penney earned!
@@steve8803 I know it's a common saying but there is no such thing as free time. You're always giving something up by using it on something else.
I do plenty of diy... But I don't pretend that time spent is free. Spending an hour to save 5 bucks isn't 5 bucks earned... It's more than that lost that could have been spent on something more productive
Paint name: Evergreen Fog Sherwin Williams. 13:23
Bring your left over paint to the recycle rather than let it dry out. It is free to you and the solvents get reused.
What brands of primer and paint did you use? Thank you
sherwin williams , prep rite and latex enamel.
What brand of paint? I was going to use the Behr paint from home depot since we used it on our trim and I have leftover (semigloss) but sounds like you think that's a bad idea
He is using Sherwin Williams paint
find a good smooth finish with enamel.
You say home depot paint is bad, but what paint is good? What store do you go to?
He is using Sherwin Williams paint
I like C2, Sherwin Williams , Dulux, PPG, Pittsburgh paints, Benjamin Moore
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY Thanks!
Is there a good way to paint cheap laminate cabinets? I tried this expensive stuff called *Beyond Paint* that claimed no sanding or primer was needed, But the paint peels right off 🤦♂️
always scuff the surface and then prime with a flat oil. Cheers!
Dust mask and kitchen enamel work for me
Thanks bro. Good job.
Maybe a 4 grand paint job would get you a better color? 🤣
There's no accounting for taste.
It's not a terrible color
The cabinets look great!
Cheers!
So knowledgeable. Thank you!
Cheers Sue!
Holy crap! So many triggers in this video. The worst being the dirty spray gun and then switch from primer to paint. Such sloppy careless work
Yup costs 3 to 10k for a pro to painylt kitchens we have living costs we dont have a salary making 100k a year with amazing health plans and retirement we need to our asses off.
thanks n God bless u for share this.
Happy to be of some help. Cheers!
A lot of people don't like using the airless sprayer for small projects because of all the masking and cleanup. Problem solved, this video shows you how to put paint on things with no masking OR cleanup! Just don't do it!😂
Should definitely use a blue housing with a fine finish tip much better finish
Anyone else think his voice is the exact same as red green 😂
I do !
So how much do you price your time? 0
Lets see what they look like in 6 months.
Use boat paint. It will never peel.
oh ya did! haha watch whole episode then comment. I get it
To people complaining about the guy not wearing dust mask. Are you reallly expecting to get clear instructions from someone who wears a dust mask and just mumbling something through DIY educational video?.. Are you serious? Gìve him a little appreciation for his efforts to teach us.
Cheers Andy.!
Can I repaint melamine white cabinets??
yes. sand and prime first with a flat oil!
