Oh, uh... The city of Almaty (Kazakhstan), I was born there. Then my parents left for Siberia, and I live here permanently. Greetings from the capital of Siberia, Novosibirsk👋
Almaty (Kazakhstan) was founded and built by Russians and was a Russian city called Vernyi. I hope you know the history of the place where you were born.
@@ik7584 Yes, it was a russian colony in the past. However Russian colonization of the Kazakh lands has failed in 1991. That's why these russian colonists have left Kazakhstan in millions.
@@traumvonhaiti When tsars ruled Russia, kazakhstan did not exist. Go to any library in Western Europe and look up the world maps published before 1936. You will not find any kazakhstan on those maps because it did not exist. It was invented by bolsheviks after the 1917 bolshevik coup sponsored by the West. Kazakhs were nomads and were migrating around with their sheep and yurtas (wigwams). About 75 percent of the territory of today's kazakhstan is the territory of the Dzungar khanate. Dzungars were involved in two wars at the same time: with China and tuberculosis. They lost both wars and became extinct. Their territories were taken by the Russians. If the Russians did not take these territories, then China would have taken them. In any scenario, the territories would never become the property of kazakhs, who did not have a chance to stand against China. Nowadays, kazakhs can exist on these territories only under the military and diplomatic protection of Russia. Should Russia take the protection away, China will swallow you, kazakhs, in a blink of an eye. Eleven million kazakhs against one billion of Chinese. Tik-tack, tik-tack, China is waiting for its moment. It's coming... Let's see what will remain of you without the Russian "colonizers."
@@traumvonhaiti 75 percent of what you call "kazakh land" are really the lands of Dzungars, they do not belong to you. Russian colonization of the territories of Dzungars did not fail. The Russians were betrayed by the foreign agents, who got the highest position in Kremlin. Breaking the Soviet Union was anti-democratic and anti-constitutional. But again, you, kazakhs, will be erased by China, so that your falsifications of history will not last for long. The future is decided. There was a US-made documentary released several years ago, in which the Americans forecasted China taking over kazakhstan by year 2050, and the West will do nothing to help kazakhs. Tick-tack, tick-tack, year 2050 is approaching quickly...
@@ik7584 I know, I know. The russians sincerely wish Kazakhstan to fail (without them). But it's the russian colonization of Kazakhstan that has failed. Millions of the russian colonists have left Kazakhstan since 1991. Up to 20-40k are leaving each year - mostly youth.
I love your videos. But this one is amazing. I like particularly the conversations you had, - being a musician myself from Portugal and I've learned throat-singing, - but also the amazing architecture of Almaty, its mountains and ski ring, and bath; but the crown jewel of photography here for me is at 12:38 just two people talking with a completely Alien Vast Planet (for me at least) in the background. I smiled watching you two talking in Tatar and Kazak, it was very funny to see the small understandings, not just of language but of mutual shared culture in the details, which is something I share with some people from Spain and Italy.
Notre cher Eli, may you and Russia be safe. Things are escalating very badly geopolitically, we hope they calm down quickly and the world can be at peace again.

Hi Eli! Your trip to Kazakhstan was very beautiful, it's just a shame that you found yourself at a time when there were earthquakes. It is a country with deep cultural roots that still maintains people who have inhabited it since time immemorial. Soviet culture is also very deep-rooted, like every part of Russia and the former nations that belonged to the USSR. Even in the people you interviewed, you can sense in them a deep traditional culture to which they are linked and they still live their lives based on it today and I think it is good that they are linked to this tradition of theirs and that they never abandon it. I really like the song which was originally the song of the Kazakh warriors which today is an artistic song which, in my opinion, should be popular all over the world. Your videos cannot miss a small representation of traditional local food which, in the case of Kazakhs, must be so tasty that it is worth eating on a trip to Kazakhstan. As always, you bring us to know places we don't know and with the vision of a few minutes, a viewer imagines that there is a whole world to discover, therefore, let's visit Kazakhstan. 😃😁 Thank you for this content, I greet you and hug you. 😊

Hey Eli. Another wonderful & informative video. You never get used to earthquakes. We've had some big shakes in my country New Zealand the past 13 years. Three major ones demolishing buildings & landscapes, they were never a thing until 2010! Occasionally since we get reminders with sudden jolts & rolling shakes. We don't get out of bed for anything less than a 5.0 🙂
@0807, with the talk of archery and horse-riding being in their blood - and the Asiatic appearance of most of the people spoken to so far - I am forming the distinct impression that Kazakhs were well represented in the all-conquering Mongol Horde of Genghis Khan which nearly gave Europe heart-failure at the time and nightmares for centuries afterwards. In any case, I am viewing this vlog with greater than normal interest as I recently saw another one on Kazakhstan which caused me to put it to the top of my list for a visit at some point in the next two years. It just seems a cool place with well-appointed cities which seem minutes away from unspoilt wilderness of at least the same quality as the Rocky Mountains, the Grand Canyon, and Yellowstone Park. Good call as the starting point for the big journey through Post-Soviet space. 👍

wow, i'm turkish and i understood everything she said in tatar language! though i understood 80-90% of the kazakh language. and thank you for showing us how beautiful is kazakhstan 🫶🏼

Loved it ! Your Kazakh friends are fantastic.
What a land ! Imagine living a nomad life there. You gotta be tough like a rock.
Interesting how you were able to understand eachother in your own languages. Both Turkic.
I had a Romanian girlfriend way back in time when i was even more handsome. She was able to communicate with Italians in their own languages.

I have a friend from Almaty that came to Canberra in Australia to stay with me for a few weeks, she was a master chef and cooked some of the best food ever, my son and I were sad to see her go back home. I was surprised to see how modern Almaty is, not at all what I expected. Looks awesome.
Please keep doing what your doing. I love learning new cultures through the eyes of another culture.
Вааау! Элина!
I have been watching your channel for a long time, you are such an incredible content maker and beautiful soul!
Your videos about Tatar culture were super interesting!
I wish you luck and peace in the journey through your life!

I enjoyed this but whenever there are only subtitles it is hard to concentrate on the video. Thank you
That was beautiful, Eli! You have a wonderful connection with people!❤️
Great video! As a language enthusiast, that intercomprehension bit between Kazakh and Tatar was a treat. I've taken part in similar exercises with speakers of other Romance languages, so it was very interesting to see that between speakers of different Turkic languages.
I've been waiting for more Kazakhstan content on TH-cam, and I'm happy it's you who's stepping uo to the challenge. Looking forward to a great series!
There’s no such thing as Tatar or Kazak language, they’re all the same fictionally divided by the Russian oppression.
I don't know a word of Turkish, but what they were speaking sounded similar to what Turkish sound like, so I wondered. Thanks for enlightening me.
Thank you, miss, I enjoy very much your programs; as my mother tongue it's not English, I take advantage of your pristine accent (I even show off of understanding you completely) furthermore, I love your manners and the sweet way of communicating.
It always impress me the clean and tidy places you present. As you lived in western cities, you know what I mean.
I'm learning Russian, your tours give me an extra prize, I can get some words I studied and improve my accent.
I'm from Spain, even though I was born in South America.
Great job!
It was a pleasure to understand both Kazakh and Tatar languages as a Turkish man.
😍😁
Notre cher Eli, may you and Russia be safe. Things are escalating very badly geopolitically, we hope they calm down quickly and the world can be at peace again.
If things get bad she's safer in Kazakhstan than in Moscow.

Its amazing how traditional dishes have potatoes which originated in South America. But then the Americas have given many foods to the world that; not the least of which are the potato and the tomato.
The original dish is just different parts of meat and organs ( heart, lungs, intestine, liver).
As well as peppers right?
Beans squash maize pumpkin....
It's hard to imagine life with only new or old world crops and animals.

Thank you for this content, I greet you and hug you. 😊
This might be my favourite video you have made. I want to travel to Kazakhstan now.

Throat singing is not a traditional Kazakh art. These Kazakhs and Turkish are nowadays aggressively claiming Mongolian indigenous art as their own! Very unethical....!!!! His explanations about throat singing is totally false. Throat singing was not shamanistic music at all. In recent years, these Turkic people including Kazakhs, Tatars, and Turkish are inventing false stories and claiming our indigenous Mongolian art as their own. This Tatar Russian woman named Eli or whatever she calls her name is purposefully propagating such false stories, as she is Tatar herself. Turkic people are extremely unethical and territorially aggressive!!!! As a Mongol, I feel disgusted with these Turkic people!!!

Great Video. I was in Almaty, Kazakhstan, in 2013. The People were WONDERFUL, and the Winter Sports Complex shown at the beginning was beautiful. I would love to go back. Besides the Etnic Kazahks, there are many citizens of Russian ethnicity. We also met many Germans, Japanese, and Chinese, the Grandchildren of former prisoners from the Soviet days. I visited the beautiful Russian Orthodox Church shown at time mark 6:30. Many were wide-eyed when they saw an American venerate the Icons. Made many friends in Almaty.
Thank you again Eli for your beautiful and interesting videos. Have a great weekend.
Of all the TH-camrs I watch, you are the most anticipated Eli. You bring us so much great content and you make me realize our worlds are not so far apart. Thanks to you I’ve seen things I’ll never get to see in person. The only thing that gets me….COLD….everywhere you go it looks like it’s freezing..Brrrr. I wish our politicians weren’t such dorks. What I see is we’re all the same, people just looking for comfortable lives. Could you imagine if we were allies and not enemies. Thank You for all you do.

Eli, I am so very grateful for your videos that have given me a greater appreciation and love of the many cultures, where ever you go.
As NZ er living in South Australia, living a pretty typical blinkered western styled existence ,you have given me such a gift of me becoming a more curious and enquiring individual with a keen interest in parts of the world, their language and history, that regrettably didn't exist in my life for decades past.

That was incredible. I lived in Kaz for seven years and never heard a throat singer and assumed this was more of a Mongolian or Tuvan thing. That is so badass that Eli met a Kazakh Throat Singer! I’m a huge fan of the art form!
@@wackyruss As a Mongol, I can tell that he is an amateur throat singer and his efforts to imitate an indigenous Mongolian throat singing is not even close at all. Overall, throat singing is an indigenous Mongolian intangible art but it is not a Kazakh traditional art at all.
