Floor did all the vocals for this album in 6 days, while Tuomas had reserved 14 days. She recorded the vocals in her home studio, 6 weeks after giving birth to her second daughter Lucy, the band came to her home in Sweden as she was not fit to travel although here voice was exceptional good as you could hear. She very recently stated that she felt better singing in the lower registers after giving birth. Valkyrie vibes 🙂. The movie scenes in the background are to support that feeling of times that are not long ago but seem to be from another world. I recognized pope Leo XIII (yes, I'm that old) and wiki is saying: "Leo XIII, who was born in 1810 and was thus 86 years old in 1896, is considered the earliest-born person ever to be captured on film. The images of him are well-known, and recently were enhanced and colorized on-line.” th-cam.com/video/3IVQ-1t92hA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=hXFM4fDfXhhyaWan
Nightwish Army PA. Division reporting. This song is my favorite song in my 63 years on this earth and i know thats saying something but the emotion and calmness it gives me is unmatched
Lanternlight is breathtakingly gorgeous ❣️ Not able to listen to this with dry eyes, it goes straight to your soul. It’s so fragile and strong at the same time. What a gorgeous piece of music composed by Tuomas and so emotionally sung by Floor. Tuomas said that Lanternlight is a song of love to celebrate live of the people that passed. In this case mainly his dad. My favorite song from the new album followed by An ocean of strange islands, something totally different.
Yes yes and Yes ,a masterpiece or should I say another masterpiece by Tuomas Halopanien! This song is hauntingly beautiful in so many ways, but yesterWynde is composed of many fine pieces I just think this may be it's finest one. Perfume of the timeless, Hiraeth, Antithyera Mechaninism, Day of and an Ocean of Islands to name a few, then let your mind spin free with the included ochestraional versions just makes this another stroke of Tuomas' genius!
Troy's part at the end hits me most. "I walk now towards the trees.....into the forest of Yesterwynde...." A gentle reminder that, eventually, we will all cease to be part of our own present and become a memory of someone else's past. Oof!!
That's the reason he wanted Floor for years,( he was limited by the singers), but he didn't want to destroy Floors own band. But the magic happened on the wedding of Irene ( Floors sister) with an emergency call. "can you please learn the setlist in 48 hours".
@@markschattefor6997 Concert quote#1 from ticket portal EVENTIM (or why Anette probably never became a permanent member): "We've been Nightwish fans for many years and were really looking forward to this concert - knowing the unfortunate truth that Tarja is no longer with us... What we were offered was absolute horror in every respect: the technology was simply unprofessional, the sound was a disaster, Anette has a Mickey Mouse voice and can at best inspire in a beer tent, musically we have rarely heard so many wrong notes at a concert... creepy... Conclusion: After 40 min. we left and will definitely never go to such a grottoid bad concert of Nightwish again... although...we seriously have to admit that this is also an art - to fail so completely and in every respect."
quote #2: "Anette's singing is one of those things. After buying the CD, I was actually very taken by her. I wasn't expecting another Tarja Turunen, but I was quite happy with the new songs written for Anette's voice. Unfortunately, Anette is not at all able to deliver live what the record promises and was therefore the second disappointment of the evening, apart from the lousy sound. The setlist was, to put it mildly, very modestly selected. The old songs had to be adapted a little to Anette's voice, and I was horrified by the result. According to the motto “Who destroyed my song like that?"
quote #3: "After having seen Nightwish live in February and now Tarja solo live, I have to say that Nightwish, whatever may have happened, made a huge mistake with the sacking of their first front woman Tarja. Unfortunately, Nightwish also made a mistake with Annette Olzon. In the studio, she somehow managed to keep up with the bombastic sound of the guys (the technology made it possible), but live, sorry, it was just too bad. She shouldn't touch the old stuff, because she can't keep up with Tarja in any way. But that wasn't so surprising. I was much more disappointed by the fact that she couldn't even come close to delivering the new songs that were tailored to her voice. She was totally drowned out by the instrumental sound and unfortunately proved that she is a vocal disaster.
P.S. Those quotes were all from the "Dark Passion Play" tour. Anette improved alot at her second tour with Nightwish, called "Imaginerium" . Yet her fate with Nightwish was already doomed, when Floor became an available option for Tuomas.
Within roughly a year and change Floor did a solo album, started a tour on it, was simultaneously prepping for a NW tour, then diagnosed with breast cancer, had surgery and then chemo, got pregnant ,then started her solo and NW tours AT THE SAME TIME, at least once opening as Floor and closing the same show with NW while pregnant, and only stopped after collapsing backstage from exhaustion I think while maybe 7 months pregnant... 6 weeks after giving birth started recording the vocals for current NW album....the album containing this song... Serious Valkyrie spirit indeed, and has to have to have core muscles of steel to sign 6 weeks after birthing ...most have issues moving comfortably at all at that stage....
NWA USA! It has been a while gentlemen. A song about remembering the past and the people we have lost on our journey. This ends the record which all about time and memories of the human experience. Welcome back my friends.
The "wynde" in Yesterwynde is pronounced wind as in rewind. It is a word that Tuomas and Troy coined to describe the winding path that each of us treads between our ancestors and our descendants.
Thanks for sharing your reaction to a song that Tuomas wrote to celebrate the life of his father that passed away in 2021. For me it empowers us to recognize our connection to nature and one another, ultimately signifying that even in times of uncertainty, despair & sorrow, there is beauty and hope to be found under the glow of the lanternlight. P.S. Their new album "Yesterwynde" is a sonic masterpiece.
Welcome back guys . Yesterwynde as in wind up a clock. This is the final track and the softest. There are some very different tracks on the album and all worth a listen. Greetings from Nightwish Army UK.
Hiya Lads! Glad to see you return to NW. This oeuvre (music and video) is fabulous. Let's start with the word "wynde" which according to dictionaries is a Welsh/Scottish/North English word for a narrow lane between houses/homes. And it was so clever of NW to blend wynde with yester to create a new word - Yesterwynde - the lane leading to yesterday... Basically Tuomas wrote the lyrics & music as he reflected on his father's death. His father was a lanternlight (guiding light) which now Tuomas carries as he walks the wynde (the present) between yesterday and tomorrow. Tuomas is reflecting that it's up to us in the present to pass along the gifts (lanternlights) of our ancestors to our descendants. And we inexorably walk into the forest of the yesterwyne to become and join our ancestors. The video is gorgeous in that it shows the past as a movie (reel to reel projector) with mirror images of Floor blending into the film and then back into the present. The images of the piano, bench, and rowboat covered by snow or sunk into the ice are images of the past. BUT notice that the film (and lighting on Floor) change from B&W to colour. This is significant in that Tuomas is saying that the images are memories, while gone, are of a beautiful and fun time. Our ancestors (and eventually us) are in the wind, the snow on a palm, the waters, the trees and so forth. We are timeless even though that pocketwatch in the snow has stopped. We are stardust...Joni Mitchell wrote the words because she couldn't make it to Woodstock, Crosby Stills Nash and Young sang the song. (She was dating Nash at the time). The romantic words that we are stardust is sung by many artists, including Nightwish. "/ We are stardust, we are golden / We are billion-year-old carbon / And we've got to get ourselves / Back to the garden. / " - Joni Mitchell
Nightwish Army Cotswold Division here. Nice to see you both again. This is a song about loss, death and the celebration of life itself. Our loved ones remain with us wherever we look. I cry every time. Take care lads

NWA Finland. Nice to see you with Nightwish again, the new album clearly their best album ever. Tuomas wrote this song to the memories of his father who died in 2021.
BP1, when you said NWA I immediately thought of the 1990's N.W.A. part of WCW wrestling. 😅😂 This is quite different than what I've heard from Nightwish before. Very beautiful and the control in her voice yet still showcases the power she's capable of.
Pure Floor. I love this song. Btw, this song was Floor's pick for a single, it made her cry when she first heard it (I had the same reaction to this song, it's so touching). Tuomas lost his father a few years ago and he wrote this song out of that emotion. The message is to enjoy life, as it's beautiful and should be celebrated instead of grieved when it ends.
Thank you for listening awarely! The lyrics and this song are the perfect end to this album. It was written from Tuomas about/ for his father which died in '21. And for ever NWA and Floorworld❣️
Been a while, NWA UK. Wind as in watch, not weather :) Starting deep and low... This sounds like her solo album, I think Tuomas likes the variety of her singing. Floor said that she chokes up too easily with this song, the band rewinds, during the sessions, to let her recover. Mmm, the warmth of her voice. “Last night brought the heaviest of snows” That sad piano about to sink below the ice. “Melting the songs of old” Reminiscences, love of the souls that have gone before. Tuomas wrote this in memory of his father. The pocket watch to wind... The old style film projector, a “Magic Lantern”. The old flickering movies, like memories. Floor soaring away. Celebration of their lives, rather than mourning. Her voice, emotional. A movie. "Please dispose of pianos responsibly"! You sounded a little choked there. Is it over? Then Troy drifts in, with his soft voice, he made up the word, so his pronunciation, is our guide, _right at the end_ of the album. :) Wow, OK. The man at the end looked very papal... The colour control, awesome. Yes, a movie to change your mood, sad, but uplifting.

This sounds like her solo album,
I think Tuomas likes the variety of her singing.

“Melting the songs of old”
Reminiscences, love of the souls that have gone before.

The pocket watch to wind...
The old style film projector, a “Magic Lantern”.
The old flickering movies, like memories.

Celebration of their lives, rather than mourning.
Did you get the Tuomas déjà vu references?
“I am the snow on your palm” [Storytime?]
“I am the secret stream” [Sagan, Shudder Before The Beautiful, Endlessness?]
“Moss beneath your feet” [My Walden?]
“I am you who climbed off of my back” [Our Decades in the Sun?]

“Timeless” (with a hint of a smile) [Perfume of the Timeless?]
“To the meadows I go” [Meadows of Heaven?]
Wow! Her voice, emotional. A movie.

Gone is the hurt, the wait,
gone is the warmth of day.
A stray boat saved, happy memories engraved,
on into a velvety night,
beneath a lanternlight.
Last night brought the heaviest of snows
melting the songs of old,
tying the boat, write a new one soon,
sending me to the drowning moon,
far above a lanternlight.
I'm in the light and flood,
I'm in the four winds,
I am the waves shaping pebbles flawless gems,
I am the snow on your palm.
I am the secret stream,
moss beneath your feet,
I am you who climbed off of my back
not long ago,
a sheltered song in a world now gone,
petrichor,
the timeless.
Turn loose the swaying boat,
meltwater, sound of spring.
I hear our song now, sung by the free,
for a thousand more tomorrows
of an incomplete weave.
To the meadows I go,
I’ll be waiting for you
once upon a lanternlight.
I walk now toward the trees,
I am the secret stream,
the night falling at my feet
into the forest of Yesterwynde.
