The most beautiful trucks and sounds I have ever heard, my father was a truck driver and I had the honor of riding with him, God bless truckers and my he protect y'all
I would always hear these jake brakes standing off the high way but never had any idea what it was. Just though it was a modded engine until I saw the informational video jacobs made today.
A nostalgic sound. I ended up moving somewhere where Jake Brakes are illegal so I need to get my fix from videos like these. Thanks for compiling these videos.
I just love the sound of them here Jake brakes. More fun when it happens in town when dumpin' corn or soybeans with five or more doin it stopping behind one nother.
Go out on I-5 in California, there is a very long down grade into town jakes blattin all the way one behind another gor miles. Other direction all hp pipe up hill.
You know what sucks is that I live and California and I’m a 12 year old boy and when I’m older I want a Peterbilt 359 with single headlights or double headlight or a 379 with a loud turbo but since I live in California that will most like not accomplish that dream because of CALIFORNIA LAWS,have to buy a new engine that’s 2010 or older and air filter and all that other stuff,my dads a trucker and we both agree that those laws are stupid but hopefully my dad will buy a 359 or 379 but we have a 389 but I just love the sounds of semis turbo whistles they are music to my ears
A 10 minute reminder that loud pipes lead to rough shifts and hard takeoffs. Of course I love straights but give me an easy driver who keeps his revs low and shifts smooth as butter and I can listen all day.
I miss driving at times. The best sound to me still is the CAT six banger. I am not impressed with the use of a Jake brake all the time. Only when needed. Would much rather hear the CAT turbo winding down between shifts.
Well at high speeds your rpm is already high and with most of these trucks rpm go by quick they have heavy loads so it’s also like a 16 or 18 shift gear box most of the time it takes practice
Revs does not increase due to the Jake brake, as the compression release brake prevents ignitions in the cylinders, and induce a massive drag on the pistons. When you hear increasing revs, it's nothing to do with the compression release braking system. It's the driver downshifting to maximize the effect of the drag brake. And, that is exactly the maneuver which have given JB a bad rep, and banned it in many places. Drivers enjoying making noise... Electromagnetic retarders are the more modern approach.
Brandon CoX There are no 16 shifts lol it’s normally of today’s 10,13,15,18 speeds very rare you’ll find 5 or 6 speed if so it’ll be a box truck probably
Uhh the outlaw sound of safety responsible handling unfortunately outlawed in your town only to be replaced with carcinogenic brake dust . Loud pipes save lives
@@lowlife5142 Feel free to be a retro guy. However, to put it bluntly, jakes have no place in the 21st century. A modern electromagnetic retarder is equally efficient, doesn't make any noise, doesn't cause any pollution. Unless you happen to own a '71 Peterbilt, you really don't need Jake! And...if you use your jake appropriately, they really aren't THAT noisy. Childish/unskilled drivers make them so!
at 3:43 i heard the sound i love the most ! Must be V8 with turbo ! right ??? If anyone knows more details can please explain to me why i makes that sound so lovely ? I am not sure but i think in another life i must have been a truck driver ! music to my ears !!!
It uses compression. The intake valve or valves stay closed and the exhaust valve or valves open at the top of the compression stroke. There's no combustion taking place.

If i lived out in the country next to a highway I'd make my own sign enforcing Jake brakes to be used. And I drive trucks for a living
HAHAHAAHH!!! Thats actually a great idea! I would make mine
Use Jake Brakes!
I'm a girl and nothing brings a smile to my face more than some jake braking old rigs

George Isaak that’s a 6 cylinder just running
Drove for keim trucking and Koch out of sabetha ks man they had some bad ass trucks w600s or Pete 359s never had to downshift lol.
W600 huh? Can tell you don't know shit about trucks
Keim hasn't had a 359 in the fleet since 1987. Koch hasnt ever used 359, or w900. T600 was in Koch fleet in early 90s
thats my favorite kenworth
Its all fun an games till you have to out run a semi on a straight, and they have the pull on that even when there 6 ton Wight machine
0:34 so that sound is from the jake brake? Some of the unburnt fuel being ignited on the exhaust? Basically backfire
It’s just a jake brake
Jake brakes pull a vacuum in the bore, it closes the intake valve
It closes the intake valves and leaves exhaust valves open, using engine power to help slow the truck down
That's my truck at 0:34 lol
It uses compression. The intake valve or valves stay closed and the exhaust valve or valves open at the top of the compression stroke. There's no combustion taking place.
