Everything mentioned can easily be solved but by far still a perfect beginner bike. Got this over the duke 390 for the smarter decision for my “first” bike. Since learning is the whole point.
Hi. I sometime watch other riders' videos on the MT-03 because I also ride a 2020 MT-03 in the black color scheme. I bought the bike new in March of last year and the bike currently has about 3,700 miles on it. My thoughts on some of your points: Brakes: I'm guessing you've seen and have been influenced by videos from a few other guys who claim the MT-03 front brakes are crap. I was waiting to hear the word "wooden". I believe the front brakes are actually quite good. You want to sample a front brake that is not good? I had a 2020 Honda CB300R for five months before my MT-03. That takes the prize. What a disappointment in the front brake category, even with that cool-looking radial-mounted caliper. Torque: If you want considerably more torque (and I think you specifically mean low-end torque), you're going to need more displacement. You are correct about the MT-03 simply being the naked version of the YZF-R3, and the factory didn't make any engine tuning changes with the way the engine makes power and torque compared to the YZF-R3. That being said, I'm actually amazed with the spread of power and torque from my MT-03. When I'm out handling the bike on back roads, I forget all about it being only 321cc. Seat: I actually like my MT-03 seat because it's a great mix of being comfy AND it allows the rider to shift body position while handling the bike. Throttle tube: I agree it requires more twist than I'd like, but the MT-03 is not alone in this dept., not by a long shot. It's actually pretty common and lots of bikes are made this way, probably to help keep "whiskey throttle" at bay with novice riders. Anyway, nice video, and I hope you continue to enjoy your MT-03.
Thanks for watching the vid - really appreciate your insight as it seems like you have more experience than I for sure! I think the brakes are good, but my comparison is right after being on the duke, I just wish it had a stronger initial bite :/ But definitely just personal preference. As far as the throttle tube and torque, I completely agree and I totally see the reasoning for why Yamaha decided to implement it. In fact, the throttle tube and low low-end torque saved me many times when learning to ride initially :D Like I said though, this list was hard to make since I absolutely love the bike :) Hope you continue to enjoy your MT03 as well~
@@Voltomess I'm thinking you're referring to the throttle tube, so let me know if I'm wrong. I feel the factory throttle tube is just the thing a new rider needs.
@@YZEtc yes exactly I've seen many videos where people upgrading them like crazy. Because they always crying how bad it is uuuh ooohh I can't ride etc.
@@Voltomess Dude I took part on the official yamaha mt tour in Greece and I can say for sure that the mt 03 is a beast and has a lot of power and I mean a lot of power .
Everything can be upgraded and tailored to be better! Better brake pads, gel seat inserted, slip on, you can even get a tune from TST industries to make more power! And for low cost. Yamaha made this bike as affordable as possible without compromising the MT lineup. Most people do not keep a MT-03 long enough for Yamaha to put that much more into it. This would make the price go up and lower sales numbers. I have a Ducati 848 Evo and the MT-03. I think it is enough power for the city and hella fun. Just make some upgrades to it, thats the funnest part of owning motorcycles or cars! 😊
Okay I made it 3 minutes into this video and came to a conclusion about this gentleman! Son you aren't going to have to worry about making videos because you are not long for this world. Lane splitting, cutting in and out of traffic, disregarding speed limits by more than a little, and just generally riding in a hazardous manner is gonna take you out.
Long distance will be comfortable, but would probably get a more comfy seat. Power with 2 up may be harder during uphill, but I'd say otherwise doable? haha
how long do you give your motorcycle run after an engine start ? what are the required DIY maintenance for this motorcycle or at all ? just got my MT 03 last week and already did on it like 500KM/ aka 300 miles
Not that long, maybe 2-3 minutes. But I ride it slow and let it warm up as I go. Service wise, the first service I did was at 600 miles. I'd check the service manual for more details though
You'll definitely get a tad bit more power, but not sure if it's enough to actually feel on the road. Dimensions wise its similar. I chose MT03 over Z400 because of the price and looks. I knew it was a bike to learn on and not a forever bike so I didn't need the extra juice or features. Hope that helps
Ayee I was actually thinking about picking up a grom later on. How do you like it?? MT-03 is great upgrade for sure. Heavier than the grom for sure, but lightweight relative to other bigger bikes
Thanks for the video. For being new, u look like u have been riding for years on the highway. I'm literally a couple days away from my 1st bike, MT03 is my choice in Black. I could go with MT07 even though I'm not crazy about spending the extra money, but I could. Only thing stopping me is I'm not sure its a beginner friendly bike. What do u think? Would u start on an MT07 if u could go back?
Appreciate the kind words brotha! If I could go back, I would still get the MT-03 over the MT-07! You could definitely ride the MT-07 but I feel like my focus would more on surviving and less on actually learning how to ride. IMO you'll learn a LOT faster on the MT03. And trust me, there's a lot to learn haha. Hope that helps! Let me know which bike you get!

But it’s not a reliable bike like Yamaha is
I have a 2021 MT-03 and I just did my Exhaust and Throttle tube.. I can feel the difference and the sound OMG!!!
Ayeee nicee! Which exhaust did you end up going with?
I agree! The Acrapovic Exhaust and R6 throttle tube spices it up!

Probably tomorrow I'm buying new MT-03 my first bike and I'm glad that torque is not crazy on this bike. Is that bike on video have stock pipe?
Yessiirr that is the stock exhaust on there!
This is my first sport style bike. Lots of fun for me. No complaints really yet. Is it legal to ride in between backed up traffic like that?
Depends on the state you are in. Here in California, it is legal!
i'd say after a certain point of learning how to ride i'd throw a R3 throttle tube on there. It halves the throw for only like 20 bucks.
100%!
I really want this bike, I'm just wondering about 2 up riding my wife rides with me, and long distance I plan on riding between states

The suspension is the problems, I have in Yamaha Mt 03
Too bouncy for you?
Suspension tuning is easily changed to suit the rider.

does that windshield actually deflect the wind? i'm riding stock and it gets rough when it gets over 60mph
