His kids have been sponging off him as grown adults. In what way is not a good father? He created a path they could take where they would never have to worry about work or money, if they chose.
@@marcuslong9761Here's the thing: Humans need parental figures, it's an innate need. So when Logan was absent and abusive the kids' only way of feeling close to him was to become more like him so he would notice them.
@@marcuslong9761 I still wouldn't say he's a good dad but at face value, he "seems" to be right. His kids are entitled and they should make "their own pile."
But he actually stops them every time they tried to. Shiv tried to do her own thing in politics and Logan leads her on, saying she's "the smartest of them all" and trying to get her to take over, but never following through.
Kendall was set to take over from the start and Logan kept leading him on.
I think Logan was never gonna be happy with any of them truly making their own way, because it would mean he lost control over them, but he also wouldn't accept any of them taking over the company.

Definitely missed the "it's a number on a piece of paper...it's a fight for a knife in the mud". Arguably one of his best and rare calm moments.
That line summed up his entire identity. It was not only chilling but brutal in it’s simplicity. I still think about it when I think about Succession. It sums up the entire show for me.

Never noticed that when Logan says to Tom “or are you shooting blanks”, the camera switches to show Kendall sitting, head bowed, next to Tom. After the final episode, that scene hits different and sheds even more light on the emotional abuse that Logan used to control Kendall

It's also a foreshadowing right from the pilot episode when Tom used a sneak tactic on baseball game and not let the kid win his homerun. Tom is always taking any opportunites every time the siblings messed up. Also, in intro of Season 1, you noticed that younger Logan kinda look like Tom so it has foreshadowed from the beginning that Tom is destined to be the winner.
Hands down, Logan is one of the most memorable and legendary TV characters. Up there with the very best!

Honestly, one of the best characters ever written. Logan is an extremely complicated character, because as Brian Cox said Logan's only weakness ever was his love of his children. He spoiled them, and always wanted them to excel like him, but due to how he spoiled them they lacked the capabilities to do anything for themselves and stand on their own two feet. It's sad that his final moments with them is when he told them that he missed them at his birthday party, and how without him they are stumbling mess, being pulled in all kinds of directions.
Not only did he spoil them, he also abused and manipulated them on a regular basis. He definitely loved his kids, but he inherited his uncle's abusive tendencies unfortunately.
@@jkta97 I think he honestly believed that his uncle’s toughness towards him made him so driven, disciplined and eventually successful. He gave his kids everything he didn’t have growing up, and acted like his uncle did to toughen them up and make them successful like him.
He abused and manipulated his children and threw them under the bus when it was necessary for his interests. I believe he “loved” them in his own way maybe but that is not real love.

a lot of his hatred is self-hate. that is a subtle cut. he spoiled his kids, hoping they would be better than him - more driven to do more because he provided more. as time passed, he realised he shot his own ambitions in his foot because his success crippled his empire due to him making his kids brats. as much as the title implies succession is about the physical empire, it's more about logan trying to pass his fire down to claw and scratch, only to see that spiritual empire fall

Much like Hannibal Lecter in "The Silence of the Lambs," who only had about 16 minutes of screen time, you can feel Logan's presence in every episode.

Logan Roy is without doubt one of the best tv characters ever created-but all thanks to Brian Cox's delivery.He IS the show. Series 4 fell amazingly flat for me as he isn't in it for most of it. It was like getting a The Office series 3... but without David Brent-an over extended epiloguge basically just to show you what happens in the end.
Only second to Genghis Khan.
