I wish people would stop overusing the word "underrated". It's in every comment section, even here about an Emmy-award winning show that has received universal critical acclaim. Did you people just learn this word and are now using it whenever you can?
Roman is so tragic to me, because I think he really is the most sensitive and understanding sibling, but he's totally incapable of showing it. He knows exactly what emotional vulnerability means in his family, so he masks all his real feelings under layers and layers of irony and sarcastic dickishness, to the point where he doesn't even really know what he feels anymore. But I think of all the Roy kids, Roman has the most good in him, and has the potential to be the best leader if he ever learns how to control himself and manage his own emotions.
@@karlpetersson4251 That's Pilot Characterization for you. Pilots are usually written and filmed months in advance of all the other episodes, and tend to highlight the most intense aspects of each character. Takes the writers a while to figure out what everyone's "deal" is.

Not just anyone can memorize a bunch of lines and say them on camera in a way that feels normal and natural and nuanced, while lights and cameras are shoved in their faces. And even make it funny. Actors who play characters similar to themselves still need real talent.
