  • American Poolplayers Association (APA) members often get stuck at different skill levels in their amateur league and pool tournaments using the Equalizer handicap system or when in at Fargorate handicapped events. Players at a skill level of 3 in APA or a skill level of 250-350 in the FargoRate handicap system often have fundamental stroke flaws and make very common tactical errors. This video illustrates certified PBIA/ACS Jim Brauker walking 3 pool players through the fundamentals required for proper alignment during shot preparation. Pool players at various levels of skill in APA tend to have similar issues that they need to correct in order to improve their game. In this video Jim is introducing stroke fundamentals to the students. The key steps are alignment of the eyes along the line the cue ball needs to travel, proper placement of the feet, and the sequence of further steps required for shot preparation, each of which will be covered in detail in later lessons. These include proper grip, stance, bridge and the steps in the pool stroke including the set, pause and finish, with attention paid to the finish element which conveys information about how well the stroke was accomplished.

It would have been much smoother if you chose to only work with one player instead of 3. In addition, I stopped watching the video at the 5:56 mark because you were going on and on about her U stroke when she understood the first time.

Tips. The left side of your brain is the area that deals in making sense of things, calculating, etc. your right brain is your crazy, idc, state of mind. It’s good to reiterate sometimes, but too much is shown here. Too much info at one time isn’t good for the learning process for almost everyone. There are some things I disagree with, but he’s trying to teach and some ppl over talk rather than teach. Teach the reason briefly, and have her try it. If she fails, explain another way and let her try. If she fails, rinse and repeat until she does…or anyone really. -shoot well. JT

Also, the only way to get better is to shoot. They got 5 mins of shooting in an hour. They should’ve been shooting for 45 mins and teaching for 15 mins.
