As someone who has watched just about every tutorial on pool that there is on the internet, from Rollie to Tor Lowry - to the old videos from Robert Bryne, Sigel, Strickland and the like. I believe that this is the most valuable comprehensive explanation on the APPLICATION of spin, in practice not just principal.
I've been explained the the strategic utilization of spin just about every way that you can, but no one ever demonstrates the nuance of these shots in practice, with useful commentary and everything.

Once you understand these concepts, pool makes a lot more sense and becomes tougher at first but the final product is you will see that you try to stay out of too many situations where one or more of these variables is a major factor. The more you can get position with a natural angle, the less variables you have to equate. So while this is very valuable fundamentals to know understand and incorporate, don't let it over-complicate your game. Someone once told me when I was a young mountain climber, the best route is the easiest route.
@@Z0MBM0Z that's what I learned from my dad over the years, RIP, he was a shot up there with some greats and yet he always told me endlessly to "keep it simple stupid!, and keep it uninteresting if you wanna WIN." He told me to watch the pros and how 90% of them are fundamentalists and make it look easy because they quite literally keep it that way. The flash and glamor can be saved for the exhibitions and low or no money games. Haha

It's crazy for me because I started to play pool more competitively 9 years ago and there was very limited billiard content creators on youtube and now there is high quality content being made with a a plethora of information I wish I had back then!

7:26 RIP the 10 ball... gone... forgotten in the void lol... All right enough about messing up. This is such an amazing video with not only point-on explanations of pool theories but also excellent demonstrations. If I have to add a couple more points, 1. All the adjustments and side-spin effect stay true only if the cue stays level, and the shooting mechanism is good. 2. Different cue cause significantly different deflections and hence different adjustments are required for the same shots. 3. The cleanness of the balls is not mentioned in the video but it's also a very important factor when considering the cut-induced-throw. Lastly, Sharivari's word at 17:20 "You don't wanna calculate before every single shot." is so true. Knowing the theories only gives you the right direction. It's the muscle memory and sometimes "a feeling" from tons of drill practices (or years of plays) that help you master the game.

Great video. I have improved my pocketing percentage significantly when putting side spin on the ball. I was aware of these effects but it made me be more cognizant of the effect than I had been previously. Also, the discussion about effect on the ball at different speeds was great. Really fine job.

Very good information. You are absolutely right at the end of the video, you can't think about left/right and how hard/soft to hit while you are actually playing. A very simple way to adjust for left/right/top/backspin, just aims at the same spot on the target ball as you are hitting on the cue ball.

This was awesome. The problem with most spin videos is they film facing the pool table which makes right/left really hard to visualize because it’s reverse. The Go Pro REALLY helps with this because we can imagine it without having to flip right/left in our heads.

Great video and explanation! Somehow this came naturally to me when I started playing and I have been using it for over 30 years and find that unless it’s a straight shot or the position doesn’t call for it, I always use it. It’s kind of like second nature at this point. I have tried to explain it when teaching people, but they have a hard time picking it up. They get frustrated quickly because they tend to start missing everything and quickly go back to playing center ball. If anyone is frustrated incorporating this into their game, don’t give up! Keep practicing it and it will just click one day. You will be amazed how much this improves your game by having these tools! Just remember that your cue tip and the table felt plays a huge roll in how much effect it has on your shot when using this and you will need to adjust accordingly! Don’t give up and practice, practice, practice!!! 👍🏻 🎱

Anywhere from your lighting, to your sound and all the post production editing and adding all the special effects. Just a great job and your are giving free lessons that would otherwise would cost people hundreds of dollars. I have improve my game in 4 months by an extra 40%. I use to go play and there were way more advance players, so I would win 3 out of 10 games. Now I’m winning 7-8 games out of 10 games. They all ask me me how did I get so good so quickly, I told them about your video and practicing every day, giving every shot the same amount of focus and importance. Love playing with side!! So mysterious 🖤 makes the balls do interesting things. Takes practice to get the"feel" but once you find the flow, I rarely play without.. it's just fun.

I absolutely love your videos. This actually helps me understand why I am missing shots that appear to be super easy. My question for you is... seeing as how this is a very complicated topic, are there any drills or mental games that you would recommend to help us keep these factors in mind? I don't even know where to begin practicing trying to account for things like deflection, CIT, etc. Thanks again! Hope all is well for you!
at first when I started practicing shots with sidespin - I was missing them badly (was just aiming as usual shots). Once I started feeling how much I need to compensate - these shots became makeable, and with a bit of confidence - I started using them in games. And they really really help to get the white rolling where you wouldn't be able with no spins. It's really neat skill to train. Sadly I am not very good with them from range, I can only make short-medium shots, but at least I can make most of the angles/straights. Train these shots :)

Great video.. a lot of half decent players don't really understand these concepts properly... Also a lot of players don't realize that side spin will have nearly no effect on cue ball position unless the cue ball hits a rail.
This is my 3rd time watching this video, I imagine it'll take several more before I can consistently make shots. Still a phenomenal video! Nobody explains how the shot is changed by applying english, and upon seeing how complicated it is I understand why 😅
Yeah it takes a lot of practice. This is why you see some people just smack the balls really hard, because then there is less CIT and if you hit center cueball then there is no deflection and the game becomes a little easier on some level.

Great video, man. Helped me fill in a few gaps in my game I wasn't certain about and used to guess on, answering why I'd miss a few key shots that always perplexed me. Jumped my level up at least a ball or two instantly after watching.

Only amateurs and idiots who don't understand what you are showing, I like your videos it makes sense.
It seems this would be overly technical and confusing to a beginner. I imagine that is the issue. And in practice, most of the examples in this video are pretty exaggerated, also making it difficult for beginners to relate to. I doubt a beginner can even recognize the amount of deflection in their own shots, yet this guy is telling them to account for significant deflection, etc. I just think someone who considers themselves an intermediate player would be who this video is aimed at. I would consider myself more or less an expert, and these concepts are all mundane to me, but I just think for people trying to learn this for the first time, the examples are all exaggerated and it may be difficult for people to relate to, especially people who play on smaller tables.

I know what you're saying when you say aim more or less to the right or left of the pocket. But since the aim is actually on a part or point of the object ball, I think it's much easier to understand if you say instead, aim thicker or thinner on the OB.
It is the left and right instructions but seen from the right and left is what’s messing me up.

Great video and well explained! As other people may do, I find it quite daunting trying to balance and guage the effects of the various spins. When Ronny O'Sullivan got a (never to be beaten) 147 in 5 1/2 minutes, I don't think he would have time to work that out - but I guess thousands of hours of practice will mean it becomes second nature.... thanks

When I started playing pool as a kid, TH-cam was still relatively young and didnt have anything like this..but I didn't think it would take a decade for something this good to come out! Great video! When first learning to pot balls with english you have to take all of this into consideration. But eventually it just comes down to understanding the basics and then hitting thousands of shots with different types of english until, as you say, you don't think about it. You just get down on the shot and pull the trigger.
By the way, what do you use for your graphics on these videos? Excellent graphics.
Thank you James. I am using Adobe Photoshop for the graphics. And for the first time I used a Billiards Simulation called ShootersPool. The graphics at the right with the white and yellow line are from there.

I can't even put this into practice because the pool halls are closed :')
Summary : low speed equals less deflection but more induced throw
High speed equals high deflections but less induce throw

Thanks for explaining the different terms used with English and the effect it has on the object ball. I hear these terms often when playing pool, but without explanation.

Deflection actually doesn't change with speed. The reason it seems like you get less deflection on slower shots is because slower shot speeds have more swerve.
If a pool table was 50 feet long the speed changes would be negated. (All the shots would roll before reaching the target).
Thats like saying swerve doesn`t change with speed.
@@smir421 Its actually not because swerve, in terms of both the amount and the "breaking point", does change significantly depending on speed.
