I mean with greater context you know that this seduction shtick comes from 2 centuries of seducing people to become food for Cazador, his greatest abuser and torturer, and that he is rehearsing lines in similar vain to how he lead hundreds of people into their doom with honeyed words. If you choose to make him compassionate, he will lament and regret his actions and truly change. Poor Guy, this scene feels uncomfortable in context.
After playing bg3 a few times now, I've found I actually I like Astarion more as a friend. He's a sweet boy, that just needs a loyal and caring friend to watch his gorgeous butt. 😅
Unfortunately big parts of his story and many interesting dialogue options are lost if he is not romanced. Like you, can't even hug him, tell him that you like him or go after him at the end if you're not actively romancing him :/

Poor sweet baby boy you don't have to do this. When you know this is all a rouse and he's disgusted with himself for having to do this - again - it's such an incredibly sad scene and really not hot or horny like he wants you to think. He's escaped Cazador but still stuck in his bindings.
Man, my Tav falls for this hook line and sinker... Doesn't help that she's young and naive. Despite being a ranger with "Protector of the Veil" as her specialty (meaning undead, including vampires are some of her favoured enemies) she knew what he was, what he was capable of, and still fell for him... trusting him openly. On a completely separate note. His line "What do any of us want" reminds me of the Arthurian Legend of "The Loathly Lady". Basically Arthur gets caught in a vow to find the answer to the question "What do all women want" and he struggles because every person he asks gives a different answer. In the end the answer is "Sovereignty. The ability to make your own choices" Astarion proves that that doesn't just apply to women.
*Spoilers* I knew his backstory before playing the game by myself because I played it with my boyfriend. I wasn’t sure if there was a way to romance him if you chose not to sleep with him, so I made sure i was the one who propositioned him, not the other way around. It felt strange having him come onto me, knowing he was doing it to get something from me. That he probably felt he had no other choice. At least by me coming onto him it felt like i was letting him know I wanted him. “And seducing you was easy frankly. So imagine how stupid I felt when I began to genuinely feel something for you.” Anyways. i chose the “no speech” options at the very beginning of THE scene. It still didn’t feel right, but thankfully later on I had the options to let him know he always had a choice and that he was always free to make his own decisions. That he didnt have to sleep with me again until he was ready. And I hugged him, which was really fucking sad to watch. I particularly like the scene where hes “looking” at himself in the mirror and he asks you what you see and you can respond “I see you” and the way your character looks at him is just so sweet. I’ve played the game in a way where i dont take shit from him. I dont baby him. I treat him as an equal, and I really like how my play through is going. I make sure my character holds him accountable, and either bites back when he’s being an asshole, or treats him with patience and kindness depending on the scenario. With the other characters they seem to find their way without too much interference from you, but with him he is really dependent on you and your guidance. He acts tough, but underneath it, he’s just hurt and needs someone to show him its okay to exist on his own terms. Really fucking sad, but I enjoy watching him blossom as a character over time
Exactly! When he approaches you again to come to his bed (Cheeks all flushed exchange) I called him on the BS and the lines he used on Cazador's victims. Most don't know you can turn him down and it doesn't break the romance 😆. It basically cements what he says when he confesses his feelings that you didn't fall for it.

@@bigfellowjamarcus6271 did you talk to him at tiefling party? if you asked him out and he said the "i have standards" line, you lost your chance. if he didnt, try raising his approval and long resting a few times near the grove, its possible for it to still trigger then but it doesnt always work
@@bigfellowjamarcus6271 did you never long rest near the grove after saving it? you should be long resting all the time to trigger cutscenes, you can partial rest without food and it works too. try long resting near the grove. if the party starts, follow this SPECIFIC dialogue tree with astarion and approval shouldn't matter (save first though just in case): - its not too bad... - take his bottle... - knowing you... - maybe if you say please - say please - good boy... then, when you click on your bed roll, choose astarion
The way his face drops when he says "that's what you want, isn't it? To lose yourself in me.". We give a lot of well-warranted praise to Neil Newbon for the immaculate quality of voice acting, but let's also applaud the entire visual team, for including so many microexpressions that make the characters come to life and feel so authentic.
Jesus I am ashamed to mention what my physical reaction was to this man saying "there you are~ I've been waiting" like my goodness I need a cold shower or ahem some time alone, thanks ❤
The way I blushed and giggled my first play through is exactly still the way I do in my third. He just makes me feel like a young 20 something all over again.
It's sad how presumptuous he seemed in the beginning. Enticed by our bodies, that supply him more then a strength to hunt, but sustanance to fulfill him completely. But set asside his assured graceful pale beauty. His sultry Starri eyed purring, he is a lonely creature, his fear is only palpable, he lets us in, only to feel disgusted after, in himself. As TAV awakens alone too. Wishing for more, but only to realize we are not aware of his seductive power's, and once we awaken again, not to the arms of a protective lover, but to a lone chill across our bare body. Then we see him, bathing in a sun lit glade, not caring anymore, about us, as we had given into a night of selflessly what he needed, tho supplying him with a warming, enrichment, he rarely gets to taste. TAV is used. And Starri is blamless, the Vampire needs, met. TAV is confused, that felt strange. Is that love, or lust. The two do not meet. Perhaps he enjoyed himself. But perhaps you felt cold abandonment after, he got what he wanted, but gave TAV nothing more then a night of false hopes, for a Future ill fated either way. And now to feel all the more lonely, as Starri Stallion, used you TAV. Yet you continue to play his game. Next he might not respond to you, but in the future he will need you, to care about him again. Think upon his sweet pleading gaze, that begs you to come hither. But his deception will follow reason. He will get to you, and feed on you again. Fallen into his Starri trap, later he confesses, his folly, when a simple plan, for him, to seduce you, was easy, but before TAV has time to become enraged by his dubious slight, he tells us, what he didn't intend on happening, or seeing in you. was genuine care, trust, and Love... He then has a jesting tone: *Trust me, it was a complication, I did not expect. Nore was I happy about it.* It proves, that Starri can love, and feels very deeply, thru everything he has gone thru. And what TAVs giving heart, has given to him. Starri is a Robesphere, he can don quite Romantic interludes that lay before us fragrant promises. But is flowery prose, all that he is? The Vampy in him would wish you to think so. Or is the Emperor Puppeting Starri to seduce you, lure you, get your defenses down so that he can manipulate the situation, Starri rather not remember? The Mind flayer can manipulate anyone, even the Narrator, feels the tinge of insecure obedience to a mind flayer's unhinged charm's. Doing more harm than good. The interference is only revealed in Act 2 or 3 Depending on how the game plays TAV. The deception, runs deeper then ever. TAV desires Starri's delicious kisses, tho clearly he's not all there, till Caz is mentioned, again, Starri seem's less focused upon TAV and more, on the hunger for vengeance once again. TAV can see, his interests are disconnected. Unstable, and confused. He hangs on to TAV more then ever before *You are beautiful.* *How can I say no¿* *You, are perfect.* He is no longer having conversations with us, but telling TAV what he assumes they want to hear. The worm has taken him, over again, so that our trust in our lover, can give us what we need, in the desperate moment. A reprieve for TAV and him, to let down guards Important to focus on, and more deception to believe in. What once was an equal feeling for the other, is frought with the influence of a enemy too close to fight. Using TAV's heart, against them. And Starri's delicious passions, to lead you down a too tempting pathe. Fate spins along... But your minds, and heart's, Steria are sadly false... Is it him, is it TAV? Starri is his own man again, why would he want to be trapped into Loves cluches with TAV? He chooses opposing answers. TAV only wants Love to work, so they choose what Starri would rather the answer be, when he knock's them, for a loop. Really?! I mean yes, but really? I must be more secretive in the future... He agreed to the test But he wants to botch the exchange. The farce is because he's fighting the test. His mind his own and the game is up. Ethier way he won, the frivolousness exposed. He is free, to be as he wishes. TAV is left with a happy Tad pole, the Emperor is taking over again. All Companion's fall to the way side, no one is satisfied Steria. But numbly, now TAV feels betrayed had they gone thru the merry little love trial, to only discover Starri her lover, being a difficult lil scamp. And against them, all the way. Either by Orin's Shapeshifting interference, or the Mysterious wood nymphs genuine concerns. TAV doesn't know how to respond, or react, and niether does sweet Starri, who will only, answer pleasingly, with, *You are Beautiful* Triggered if not before Orin's first surprise appearance. *Now we're being infiltrated by a Shapechanger? I don't know, if any of you are who you say you are? Because this group is full of Weirdos!!* His funny lines, are not just meant to make us laugh 4th wall braking, it means Starri can see more & feel more then we do. He fought the test, with his own disgust at the whole farce. And yet we know we need his approval. 🧠🦠RAAAWWWOWW!!🐈⬛ He leaves the test, back under the control of the Emperor. No longer disheartedly, his love, of TAV still devoted to TAV❤️🩹🗡️ 👁️ 👁️ 🩸 Altho his actions and wçordz, are without conviction. He goes on as before. You know you were talking about ascending astarion on your make him worse play through. My first play through, I ascended astarion on my first place through. I was making all the good choices. I was being the good guy and I was telling him you gotta be a good guy. You gotta do things you don’t wanna do because it’s the right thing to do. I ascended him. Like he doesn’t disapprove of good deeds like he did in the beginning. I feel like if you do do it the right way as send it astarion again can still be a good guy. Yeah his bad traits are amplified, but I feel like the good traits. He has are also amplified. Which is why I don’t believe everybody when they say that he doesn’t care about tav anymore.
After I new his story, this was actually sad. I decided to fix him up, and now hes way better than before. The thing is, after so many times Cazador pushed him around he just changed and lost himself in some way.

Man, my Tav falls for this hook line and sinker... Doesn't help that she's young and naive. Despite being a ranger with "Protector of the Veil" as her specialty (meaning undead, including vampires are some of her favoured enemies) she knew what he was, what he was capable of, and still fell for him... trusting him openly.
On a completely separate note. His line "What do any of us want" reminds me of the Arthurian Legend of "The Loathly Lady". Basically Arthur gets caught in a vow to find the answer to the question "What do all women want" and he struggles because every person he asks gives a different answer. In the end the answer is "Sovereignty. The ability to make your own choices" Astarion proves that that doesn't just apply to women.

I knew his backstory before playing the game by myself because I played it with my boyfriend. I wasn’t sure if there was a way to romance him if you chose not to sleep with him, so I made sure i was the one who propositioned him, not the other way around. It felt strange having him come onto me, knowing he was doing it to get something from me. That he probably felt he had no other choice. At least by me coming onto him it felt like i was letting him know I wanted him. “And seducing you was easy frankly. So imagine how stupid I felt when I began to genuinely feel something for you.”
Anyways. i chose the “no speech” options at the very beginning of THE scene. It still didn’t feel right, but thankfully later on I had the options to let him know he always had a choice and that he was always free to make his own decisions. That he didnt have to sleep with me again until he was ready. And I hugged him, which was really fucking sad to watch.
I particularly like the scene where hes “looking” at himself in the mirror and he asks you what you see and you can respond “I see you” and the way your character looks at him is just so sweet.
I’ve played the game in a way where i dont take shit from him. I dont baby him. I treat him as an equal, and I really like how my play through is going. I make sure my character holds him accountable, and either bites back when he’s being an asshole, or treats him with patience and kindness depending on the scenario.
With the other characters they seem to find their way without too much interference from you, but with him he is really dependent on you and your guidance. He acts tough, but underneath it, he’s just hurt and needs someone to show him its okay to exist on his own terms. Really fucking sad, but I enjoy watching him blossom as a character over time
Exactly! When he approaches you again to come to his bed (Cheeks all flushed exchange) I called him on the BS and the lines he used on Cazador's victims. Most don't know you can turn him down and it doesn't break the romance 😆. It basically cements what he says when he confesses his feelings that you didn't fall for it.
I remember I told him I just wanted to talk he was so disappointed. I ain't fallin for your early mixed signals.

@@bigfellowjamarcus6271 did you talk to him at tiefling party? if you asked him out and he said the "i have standards" line, you lost your chance. if he didnt, try raising his approval and long resting a few times near the grove, its possible for it to still trigger then but it doesnt always work

@@bigfellowjamarcus6271 did you never long rest near the grove after saving it? you should be long resting all the time to trigger cutscenes, you can partial rest without food and it works too. try long resting near the grove. if the party starts, follow this SPECIFIC dialogue tree with astarion and approval shouldn't matter (save first though just in case):

- take his bottle...
- knowing you...
- maybe if you say please
- say please
- good boy...
then, when you click on your bed roll, choose astarion
