oh god and I just have to mention something i saw on tik tok the other day, someone posted a clip where AA said something really touching to resist Durge at Bhaal's temple like “even if you acted like that but somehow the whole time I still only saw you”, the uploader had to keep telling people, yes this is AA indeed, and some spawn Astarion fan still insisted like, "are you sure? AA can never feel like this". I mean if you like this character so much why can't you at least have the patience and be open to experience the possibility this character could develop tho....

His character and this scene means so much to me. I have felt for much of my life that the only reason anyone would want to be close to me is for sex. Then I was assaulted, and it confirmed my greatest fears. But what’s funny is that the man who is now my husband was actually the one who helped me through that period of my life. I told him I couldn’t offer him sex, I was too traumatized from what had happened, and he didn’t care. He stayed by my side as a friend because he genuinely enjoyed my company that much. He tried dating other girls, but he never felt the same about them. After a year of healing and me finally seeing that someone could love me for me and not my body, I told him I loved him. I’m just rambling, there isn’t really a point to my comment, just that I’m feeling big emotions rn and thank you Neil and Larian for bringing Astarion’s story to life because it means the world to me.

Excellent talk. I am amazed at how well written the two branches are. I don't agree with your interpretation, but I can see what people like about Ascendant. Personally, I think Astarion gave Tav the choice so the Ascendant would be grateful to them, protecting them. It backfired though and it seems the Ascendant is jealous of Tav and wants to prove he's better. Worst part is, the best case scenario for Astarion is he ended up like Cazador - stuck inside his own body as he watched the vampire run around. Which is exactly what he was afraid of, losing control of his body. Also he'd have a front row seat to the Ascendants degradation of Tav. Worst case scenario of course is, his soul is in hell for eternity. I just can't enjoy the Ascendant story line at all when I think those are the two options. I know some people dismiss the vampire curse and the devils pursuit of souls and Cazador's vastly superior knowledge of magic and the ritual, but I can't. Ascendent ending is a very, very sad ending for Astarion imo. Also I hope someone writes a lovely, angsty fanfic about that scenario.

I feel like this dialogue, especially regarding Shadowheart, betrays him as not ACTUALLY poly or perhaps just not ready to be at this time himself. In my opinion and reading of the character, He just goes with it if you wanna be with Halsin cause he's already more invested at that point, and he struggles to say no. (Which you also see in other instances) Because Shadowheart IS poly. Truly. She's enthusiastic in her consent with Halsin and participates with the drow without dissociating. To me he's very much projecting on Shadowheaet here with everything he is saying.

I love this scene and how expressive his eyes are when you tell him you'll be with him without the sex. I'd personally just be content to cuddle with him and I'm pretty positive as far as his characterization goes that you as his love would be the only person he'd allow to physically touch him due to his history. Also, he has to like or be attracted to you in some way to even approach you or proposition you for sex. If you're approval is low he turns you down. Also, ties into the certain level of trust he has to have to even put himself in that position. (Him staying with you until morning vs leaving before the sun rises). He's using you in the beginning, yes, but he's also choosing of his own free will to sleep with you. Which can't be easy on his end because he would be just as apprehensive about you as you are to him. I love that his character is also adamant about you wanting (consent) to bed him and of course he'll try to charm you but ultimately it's a yes or no and he respects your choice either way. He doesn't really start to exude the bitter and angry snaps at you until after he confides in you, revealing his trauma, and confesses his feelings. Which would be understandable for anyone. With his character you can choose to forgive him for initially using you or if you're a perceptive one then you already knew he was in the beginning and just let it play out because technically your character uses him as well. It's up to you to respect the boundary he puts up and allow him to have agency over his own body and choices. I just love his character all around and Neil deserved every accolade he received for playing him. Don't get me started on how he shifted his tone for when Astarion Ascends... He's less animated and more reserved. Also calculating. Like, Unbothered will be his default setting unless he's addressing his Consort. Which is the only person he'd show any type of emotion. I'm rambling now...(Backs up slowly) *Fails DC ROLL*😮

What act was this in? Bc depending on that, he might be uncomfortable laughing at tav making a stupid decision to choose someone using and manipulating her rather than over feeling insecure. Of course it could also be a bit of both

I hope you'll see this! I just feel this is important and I kinda want more people to see it ^^ About the "degrading yourself" line, I don't think it's a badly written moment! It's really consistent with Astarion 💜 (even tho I'm not discrediting if the writer had problems and creative differences writing him). The character consistency is scattered in a different timeline about how Astarion (non-spawn before he make the realization) views love. Particularly, how AA views love! You already said how Astarion doesn't believe in love, and maybe AA has never left that behind. In one of the AA break-up line where he says something along the line of "I'll ruin your love, love is just another form of enslavement" is what he was thinking about when he's laying atop of you. That's why you're _degrading yourself_ in his eyes. You're being bound to him, becoming his slave, forever bound-even though that's exactly what he wants; in a non-malevolent intent, perhaps. Regardless of his actual intent, whether AA _doesn't_ feel love because it's = enslavement *_or_* AA does feel love but he's confused about what love is when he has so much power over you and has his own beliefs, strong wants, and confusion about love because he had never experience love-love before until he met you (he's utterly bad at feelings and now he feels a lot!) is really up to the viewer's to decide. I prefer to believe in the latter. Also, you did great editing this video. Despite English being your second language (and mine too tbh), I can understand you just fine! It's nice being able to hear all of my points (and others, not claiming they're mine) being splashed out in one neat video! And wow those render look gorgeous, might check the person out.
