- Hi! Virtual Bro here to recommend one of my favorite VR games that I think deserves more attention. That underrated Quest 2 game is Broken Edge.
Broken Edge gracefully succeeds at bringing competitive swordsmanship to the virtual landscape in a way that no other VR game has by way of some unique mechanics that make it quite immersive and addicting with gameplay consisting of real time strategic duels between players where mastery of physical movements and techniques are the key to victory.
Oh and did I mention? It's only $10 at full price.

It's so beautiful, please talk about your art and game design process in your channel
(This may be a dumb idea but meh i think it sounds like it has some potential) what about a sort of bayonet class, where the "stance" is holding it up to your chest like your aiming the rifle, and then you have one quick jab at the enemy. It could also have a side bullet feature that serves to diminish a small portion of the enemies sword once per round, as a way to force them into a parry before your attack?
I usually don't like quest specific games, they always feel like lesser versions of the beefier PC games, but this is definitely the first for me at least that doesn't come off that way. I'll have to give it a try when I can.
the single best part of this game is occasionally seeing your opponent's "uh oh" reaction when they look down at their sword and see there's nothing left of it then look up at you with your sword mostly intact
Edit: Apparently a lot of people agree with this statement, I shall absolutely do it more often for comedic effect

Sometimes I like to add to it by putting my hands up and/or cowering on the floor. Or just an exaggerated look up and down.

I love how emotive people can be in VR without saying a word, it's like a cartoon. You can pretty much hear when someone realises they're in danger or are over-confident, it's something I've never realised until just now.
Yeah, human body language is subconscious, so you usually don't notice it.

Bought Vail since it was on sale for 2 bucks and put on my VR headset for the first time in 6 months. Very first match I ran around a corner and found a new player fumbling around with a mag and then dropping it, then he noticed me, panicked, dropped another mag, then someone came in the room and shot us both.
yooo this game looks so cool, I dig how it feels less like a drawn out fight and more like a standoff
Me too! Fights are quick enough to stay tense but long enough to be strategic!

This is a SOLID step in the right direction for VR. A lot of the common drawbacks mentioned at the beginning of the video with other VR titles is why I've basically put my headset back in it's case and stored it in the closet. We need more games that do something like this and we need the tech to keep up with it too.
We also need some higher quality, lightweight VR gear.
The tech exists, the affordability doesnt. Though I always wondered if I could recycle the lenses from a broken vr set and diy a headset myself, after all there are not that complex

these are the games we NEED in vr. Stuff like this and rumble are the most awesome ways to do progression in vr games, scrap the numbers, and make it skillbased instead. It's so satisfying
EXACTLY. i hate games where the progression is just "number go up"
I have recently taken up HEMA, which for those who don't know is Historical European Martial Arts, and lemme tell ya, Broken Edge has absolutely prepared me for that. The game has improved my reflexes so much, and has also taught me that smaller movements greatly overpower large ones, which is true to real life.
as a fighting game player, I was a little skeptical at first but my eyes just got wider the longer the video went on. Your description of how the progression is based off personal skill rather than unlockables or loot, as well as growth in understanding of how to efficiently use tools and recognize matchups and develop varied strategies is EXACTLY what traditional fighting games are all about, and to hear and see all of this be able to be captured in a VR experience is amazing. Between this and RUMBLE VR (Which I also recommend you give a try, as its physical, form-based control is similarly interesting) I really hope I get the chance to pick up a VR headset soon.
Check out into the radius, it’s a year old but it is 100% one of the most fleshed out vr games I’ve played. Great story matched with amazing mechanics

If you like broken edge, I’d HIGHLY recommend Until You Fall vr. It has great sword combat, and a surprisingly high amount of playtime (and replayability). Anyways, amazing video!

@@VirtualBroVR At 1:23 --> Sword game are physics-based...or not. I'd argue they're physics-based or script-based. Script-based being close to QTE mechanics (parry with a predetermined move to be allowed to attack). Notable titles would be Until you fall/Vader Immortal/Asgard's Wrath

i'd play until you fall if it had this exact class-based gameplay.
This is a brilliant way of solving the issue of wild waving in the air like on the wii.
You could train people how to throw punches with perfect technique using this. So cool.
I recently tried this game and something I find interesting is that after playing different classes I sometimes adopt that class’s playstyle even when I’m not playing that class. For example when I’m playing knight I’ll sometimes spin my blades around like the Persian since it’s a good way to keep my guard up.
That's so cool its like you're adding to your skillset by practicing multiple classes!

I haven't really played since the early days of the game (THERE IS A PIRATE NOW????) but I just wanted to add, during the time I played this game everyone was extremely encouraging and helpful even while in combat. I think in the few weeks I played that game I only encountered 2 toxic people and even they weren't bad compared to most others. Not only is the game amazing but it attracted the perfect community.
This is the sort of thing that makes me really want a VR set. I've only tried VR a few times but it's always been really fun!

This looks really cool. My VR set broke awhile back but I bought the game in case I forget by the time I have VR again. Its actually on sale on steam so that helps. So while I have yet to play it, something interesting that they could add is 2v2 so you can duel alongside a friend

great video. unfortunately i could not get into broken edge. i tried but even with the slightest latency can make the difference between you having a fair fight and you getting hit before you see it. That and it seems like the abilities only want to activate 10% of the time
aw man that sucks! yeah recently I've been crashing every time I get into a match, hopefully they will fix that soon! The abilities do take some practice to get right!
Abilities activate just fine, you just need to be very accurate with the movement. Latency is a big problem though.
@@VirtualBroVR This is happening because of the recent Meta Quest OS update, version 55 --> fixing in progress
i had 600 ping and was doing fine, and the abilities are pretty easy (for the duelist, at least)

You should try out Ironlights! It works on a very similar basis of online vr combat with its own twist of slow motion. I think you’d like it if you enjoyed broken edge

I practiced kendo many years ago. The mentality, striking techniques, and footwork (or at least a little bit of it) actually work to a good degree in the game too when playing samurai. Pretty cool.
Found this game on my own and now it’s one of my favorite games the fighting is addictive

I was very excited for broken edge when it first came out, however in my mind it could never overshadow how much fun Ironlights was back in the day.
