Lucky you meeting Lee Dorrian ........ loved his old band Cathedral.
The prices these days are insane!
When I used to go vinyl diggin' in the late '80s and through the '90s it was an affordable pastime.
Thanks for the video 👍
This is crazy. What an amazing record shop. Thanks for taking us along on this visit. Amazing shop and pretty crazy prices.
Great to see ya back! Absolutely love your videos!
Haha, I love the fact you had no idea that was Lee Dorrian, owner of Rise Above Records, the label not the shop, ex-singer of Napalm Death and Cathedral. Great video.
Lee Dorrian! What a legend. His band Cathedral is one of my faves ever. Carnival Bizarre and Forest of Equilibrium are doom classics. Top bloke by the looks of it.
Vinyl is such a rabbit hole…. I love the chase… but it seems to have no end😂
Save your money and go back to that store! Unbelievable classic UK vinyl. I could only wish I could find a store like that here in the US! Thanks for the journey!
What an Impressive amount of records on display. Holy Holy holy Grails
Another GREAT post gents..very enjoyable as always...What a shop to visit-wow so much amazing cool stuff in there..Quite easy to spend a fortune in there!!! 👍👍👍👍
Thanks mate! Glad you enjoyed it 😁
Holy moly! Gracious, Gods? Hard stuff, May blitz, July etc. Fantastic stuff!
Some nice ones. Thanks for the store tour!
Thanks for watching!
You guys are the best! You remind me of how me and my dad are like. Ive recently started listening to vinyl and my dad has given me a bunch of his old records and my deceased uncles record collection, so watching this channel gives me so much positivity!
That’s great mate! These sort of comments are why we do it in the first place 😊 glad you enjoyed and got something out of what we do
@thevinylhunters honestly, you and poppa dave are my favourite duo, your so passionate about the record and your banter inbetween really makes me laugh! I'm gunna go to some record fairs in the new year before I move out on my own, I'd really love to spend a day with you guys looking for records! I'm based in the south east! :D
Merry Christmas to you both! Keep the great content coming in the new year! 🎉
Merry Christmas to you too Leigh 😁
Great shop and video guys
Awesome tour of this shop guys . Cheers 😎👌
Oh no, you visited the 'Swirly' section, I'm drooling !! Great vid guys :)
Us too!
Really interesting video thanks, I can't get over how much some of the "commoner" Vertigos are going for!
Yeah, people collect the Vertigo swirl label & a lot of the stuff they were looking at is the psyche-rock stuff. Some of that stuff sells for real money. Mad innit ?
Loving all these uploads! I have a 1977 re-issue of In the Court Of The Crimson King on polydor, but have since been told those pressings had audio issues because they were mastered on the cheap!! Although I believe the original master tapes have since been found
Glad you’re enjoying them Louis! And you gotta get yourself a pink island press of that album! Or at least a palm tree version 😁
great video as always
Thanks for watching!
Greetings from Athens I saw great records in your episode.Unfortunately I have not been in London in recordshops .
Wow. You telling me I can meet one of my teenage idols by visiting his record shop. I wonder if they have any rare Cathedral stuff I've been looking for forever.
Lee Dorrian!!! Ex-napalm death and Cathedral. Also Rise Above records did some great releases.
I used to live near to Mitch from Napalm Death when he lived in Birmingham. Nice guy! Thanks for the CD Mitch!
So many people sold their vinyl back in the 90's, now want it back. Moral is- DO NOT FOLLOW THE CROWD!
Charity shops in the nineties were full of cheap vinyl, I remember buying 3 sides live by Genesis for £3, those were the days.
@@dnjn67 Why would you buy that, for any amount?
@@user-dj3gq3ro4z lol
I didn't
@@dnjn67too much.
The older guy sounds like Ted Grandad Trotter from Only Fools and Horses. Glorious record store 🙂
No way
Thoroughly enjoyed this video! Cannot belive I missed this shop when I was in london! Don't know how long it will be before I'm back in London as I live in the states. If I do, I will definitely go to this shop!
it's away from the touristy bits of London. I live not far from the store and just wish my record money would stretch. always love browsing there though.
@@AustrianZeppelin I always wish I had an infinite wallet for places like this!
Great shop, a lot of fantastic records but the prices are insane!
Mr. Lee is a truly nice guy! Been to the shop a few times (my gf lives nearby). Really cool selection of punk 7 inches. Greetings from Denmark 🙂
Lee Dorrian! The high priest of doom! 😂 A Coventry kid.
I am Matthew Hopkins. Witchfinder.
My solid ground is a crazy rare album
I can't understand people selling their record collections ever. They were and are the soundtrack to my youth. Especially during the late 70's and early 80's. A golden era...
Sometimes, when people are skint broke, the money is just more valuable than the records.
@@davidbeeson9408 I get that and I've known people to do that. Even when I've been skint myself I've never been tempted. For me, selling my records would be a very last resort. They must be worth at least 50 grand too if these record buying sites are to be believed.
@@davidbeeson9408 and a few weeks later they in the same situation ... no point in selling
Sometimes I guess age. They are old and want others to enjoy them rather than some family members tossing them out after they pass.
Super sick Atomic Rooster poster!!!
I was unaware and missed the innitial auction of JohnDu Cann's personal items after he passed.
But somehow through chance I found a few items that were forgotten to be put up for the initial auction.
I scored a really great Atomic Rooster poster from the Death Walks Behind You era. Oddly enough the band Osibisa is on the other side of the poster so im not sure if its from a gig or magazine or what? It us dark blue ink print on light blue paper, a very striking image!
I also got a mail correspondence with a small record label reissuing The Attack material on cd asking for contributions from John
There was also an album proof of the Andromeda lp cover that I lost by just a few dollars.
Hearing of that poster on the wall brought back memories from about 11or12 years ago.
Very cool store but yes pretty pricey!
Wish I could visit.
SCRATCHES OR NOT, I'D BUY ANY OF THAT STUFF IN A HEARTBEAT! THAT PLACE LOOKS LIKE I COULD LIVE THERE.
Lee Dorrians shop, ex Napalm Death, Cathedral, With The Dead.
Glorious shop. It’s my dream to run a store that’s known for always having rare on the walls. Ive barely seen three in my life
Lee Dorian!
I'll have to get in the loft this weekend 😂👍
Thanks for this video it's given me the incentive to avoid the shop. Obscene prices for what basically is £5-£10 records. A lot of those you can still find in excellent condition if you are prepared to do the early morning work by visiting boot fairs. Magna Carta's 'Seasons'. Uriah Heap - the first two LPs you can still find for less than £10.
Shalamar Friends LP £18 when we went 2 years ago. I burst out laughing, my girlfriend joined in and we left the howling. Never going back. Go to Alan's Records up the road. Great prices, great stock, great guy.
Mr Lee Dorrian himself right there! met him in...94, i think? in L.A., outside a Cathedral/Flotsam and Jetsam/Mercyful Fate gig. he was hopping off a taxi with Gary Jennings, just outside the venue. i was there with my friend Claudio, all the way from Mexico, solely for the gig (and to visit some friends). we were carrying a boxload of vinyl, all of them the same title: a weird 'unofficial' (i believe) Cathedral album: 'Echoes and Dirges From the Nave', featuring early stuff, demos or live material: the bass player from our stoner/doom band and Dorrian were penpals form his days in Napalm Death, and this guy put it out, for some reason. and since we were visiting the US and attending the gig, our bassist thought it a good idea to make us carry that heavy load (pun intended, i.e., a Cathedral song title, too) and deliver copies to the band. as punk rockers used to do... so there we were, and thankfully Lee and Gary appeared. Lee did know what that record was about and he even said they'd put us on the guest list- but we already had tickets. astounding set by Cathedral-witnessed by us and maybe ten other people! later that night we were partying with Lee, the bass player (Ed Carlson?), Guy from the Obsessed, Ron Martinez from Final Conflict and a few others, just smoking, chatting and blasting musi at Dino Cazares' apartment. the police knocked on the door and we all escaped through an open window in the living room, into the Hollywwod night. true story... btw, that Samuel Prody album is just perfect psych!
Very interesting video I go ot alot L.PS. from my late mother I haven't Heard of names on some them am playing them .
They had Jim Croce Life and Times on Vertigo Swirl?! That's probably the rarest of the lot! I wonder what it was priced at.
Jim Croce is one of the cheapest Vertigo swirls...it's a £25 record. There are swirls on the wall that are £1000+.
@@nigelcampag1290 I never see the swirl for that one. I only see the Spaceship label
Classic Vinyl Head response - ' You got that one' .. .' Yeah' ... 'I don't think so...' ha🙃
😂
Manythnx and Happy holidays!!🤘 my favorite vinyl hunting duo.very cool Faith no More..wish you could've come away with the Uriah Heep
Glad you enjoyed Dave! One day he’ll get himself a copy of that Uriah heep album once more 😁
Lol, i knew within 2 minutes of entering his flat that he wasnt gonna let you look at any of the records. What a tease! Thats like inviting someone over for drinks and only offering orange squash.
Was this comment meant to be on the other video with Barry
The July on the wall will be a US press for £650. It has a black background whilst the UK is blue. The UK press is £1500+. England on the wall is a UK hard rock lp on Deroy from 76. Very well regarded. A fair price is £1000 but has sold for more. I kinda regret not buying one local for £800 a couple of years ago. My pal does own a copy. Impressive looking shop though....like having the Den Bosch fair in London.
Thanks for that info Nigel! Crazy prices, huh?
@@thevinylhunters Yep, I'm not afraid to drop a few hundred on a record but I live in the north so in general prices not quite as severe as those London prices. Cheers Nigel
Great shop!! Whats the Manson lp?
- Poor Old Prisoner Boy (1989). 60 minutes of jail cell riffing.
Thinking was who's second album? Can't make out what Lee said (after Apple, Megaton). So it must be a very rare record!
Have you tried The Vinyl vault in Holt, Norfolk?
Not yet! Thanks for the suggestion 😁
This is painful, I'm seeing so much stuff! But... Is it first edition UK? U.S? How Much? etc.. So frustrating, not being there and seeing for myself! You pulled Affinity out how much was it?
Prices are nuts. Vinyl will soon be the preserve of the investor who wants to make money from buying/selling, rather than true music enthusiasts who will actually play and enjoy the records.
100% right
It already is, supply and demand has driven the prices up to insane levels.
Did they have Comus First Utterance?
man i would have killed my bank account there!
You guys were just talking to freaking Lee Dorian from Napalm Death and Cathedral!
Yes! I can not understand why they don't make a reverence to him. As a metalhead you must do it!
I wonder how much they want for that Bright Phoebus or COB?
0:19 didn't know russell 'rant Jr was into vinyl
I bet you have been asked this question before .. What was the most expensive vinyl you have bought , and what was it ? Also your first LP you got and single (45) ,and EP ? Andrew Hackney East London 👍🏻⭐️
The most valuable record I got for the cheapest price was Primevil, Smokin Bats at Camptons for $0.60. The most I ever paid for a collectable record was $160 for Comus First Utterance around 20 years ago.
I have amny of those wall records... 1st crimson is pink island bullet label.
I want to go there and buy Dopethrone.
*casually pulls dissection*
Could you explain why the vertigo swirl records are so expensive? I presume due to the rarity of them?
People collect them & they were only pressed in limited amounts. Some people only collect swirls.
Thanks, I've just done a quick search for vertigo on my discogs collection and got a few results. I've a jim croce album, that is showing up as a swirl(I think) but the album itself has the space ship on the record but the swirl is on album cover. I'll keep an eye out for them going forward but I can't see myself paying the prices they were asking for in that shop.
@@buckfast69 If the spaceship is on the label, it’s a spaceship label. A Swirl will be on the label, it has to be on the label to be a swirl, that’s the whole point of “Vertigo Swirl Label”.
Vertigo is a label that had a lot of weird or underground rock/psych groups. They took a chance on these groups and many only put out one or two titles and then faded away. Dawn is another such label.
just be sure to have won the national lottery , before entering !!!
Really enjoyed browsing with you but this store is too rich for me despite it being a vinyl treasure trove. I have always found the flea markets as a good place to buy s/h vinyl. Never found anything rare but quite a few near mint original pressings for £8-£10 a throw.
See Gene picture hanging on the wall
Hello, subscriber of your channel and Uncle Acid vinyl collector from the states here. May I please ask a favor? I need to get a proper pressing numbers release for all the Uncle Acid 45's. I would very much like one for the LP's as well. Can you please help me get in contact with someone who can give me this information? Thank you.
Do you guys realise that’s the lead singer of Cathedral that owns the label rise above/shop
Yep 😁
When I see all them metal albums I used to have in the 80’s and got rid of them for cd’s.
Then see how much they are going for now in its incredible.I mean it’s only a piece of black plastic.
I bet all them prices in there are Discogs prices as in whatever the price on there it’ll be the same in the shop.I know some record shop owners who’ll get a collection in and sell them for a really cheap price cus he’ll know he can get rid of them fast.
Where some will put a big price on them and have them on display for ever has no one can afford them.
It's nice that that store has a bunch of good records but if the prices are high it's no good.
What's worse is going into shops that don't have prices on them and the owner has to "look it up"
Perhaps that's the reason they have such a good selection.
Iam trying to find Emanon (Aloe Blacc and Exile) the Waiting room and InI center of attention
DAMN RIGHT.... DON'T BE A SHEEP AND FOLLOW....DO U!!!!
you missed a Killing Joke EP.
Princeton Record Exchange: th-cam.com/video/efL-ru4qk3g/w-d-xo.html
What were the prices like reasonable or to much
I’d say above what they should’ve been but with negotiation you could probably get them down to a reasonable price. Thing is you just don’t see those sorts of records, they’re hard to find!
Way over priced.
Fuck is that place still going? Sorry, stupid question. LOL.
The prices are a rip off that’s why they have so much stuff no one will pay their prices
Specially nowadays
Imagine paying £125 for a Rod Stewart record? Lol.
I wouldn't pay £1.25 😂
Bun rod stuart
The shops are getting greedy. Prices insane.
its all very well saying subscribe for less than the price of a cup of coffee, but have u seen how much theyre charging for flavoured hot water these days? I think i'll manage without being able to use a few emotes to be honest looollzzz. Cheers for the vid.
Highgate prices
This prices are made up as they go along its like art and diamonds they are worthless but we are conditioned to believing they are valuable. Its good news for me because my collection is worth £1000s but i wouldnt buy them at the prices they are worth.
horribly overpriced. They're literally going off the highest price on Discogs it appears. I'd say this is the worst record shop ever. They're clearly buying the lowest price stuff on discogs and then selling it for the highest price possible.
I thought it was amazing. Easily one of the best shops I’ve ever seen. You clearly have deep biases that are based on previous norms in previous eras. Id love to hear your solution to the problem? An actual intelligent answer instead of a reductive over simplification which clearly is so easy for you to hurl from your position, as what? A successful record shop owner? Or a rude record buyer who just wants things as cheap as possible and doesn’t care about the fact that to support small business mom and pop and brick and mortar you have to pay a premium. But obviously the world’s moving to corporate sterile cheapness just like you want.
@@arzabael wtf are you talking about? simultaneously defending and critiquing capitalism. You can still get good records for reasonable prices from individuals on discogs. "Supporting a mom and pop store", f-off.
It’s very nice! 👍🔥🙏 But prices….I guess that’s what it should be 😢🫣
