    ...par excellant, Martin. Very professional and you handled the DFW taxi environment skillfully. Congrats on another great video.

    This made my heart pump because I've toyed with the idea of flying a Mooney into DFW. Wow.

      Go for it, Michael. It's fun. You might consider bringing a co-pilot to help with the taxi, which is really the only difficult part.

      Martin Pauly do you think an IFR day would complicate it due to ATC separation? I've decided against going this weekend, but hypothetically I'd be expecting to have an easy 800 foot ceiling ILS 13R after work tonight. On the other hand I can imagine that it's harder to fit GA in when it's IMC.

    • @martinpauly
      @martinpauly  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      IMC does make things a little harder and reduces the airport capacity. It would help to know what amount of traffic DFW expects at the time of your potential arrival; I would try to avoid their peak times during IMC. If you google "FAA Fort Worth Center", you'll find the phone number of Fort Worth Center - give them a call and ask when the push times are at DFW so you can avoid those times, they'll be happy to tell you.

    Nice flight, always wanted a flight in a Bonanza. Owned a Skyhawk a couple years. Flew out of (cak) Canton-Akron. Don't have medical but still love flying. Love the Videos.

    I really enjoy your videos - if you ever get out to the east coast I think a VFR flight in the DC SFRA would be interesting.

    It's amazing to see how the air became much less turbolent once you climbed above the clouds level.

    I enjoyed the taxi more than the takeoff and flight. That's some workload on the ground.

    • @martinpauly
      @martinpauly  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree. I'll post another video soon with the landing at DFW the day prior, where the taxi was much shorter - you'll see the difference.

    @Martin Pauly, I wonder if you did it as your personal challenge?
    The reason I ask is that there are so many other airports in the DFW area that do not require to taxi for 20 minutes, have lower landing fee (if any) and as conveniently located as DFW is.

    • @martinpauly
      @martinpauly  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's exactly it, Dmitri. I like large airports, so every now and then I treat myself to the experience, despite the drawbacks that come with them.

    You were right next to my home airport KADS. KDFW is not as tough as most think. Next time check out KDAL. Bizjet is a good choice.

    Hi Martin - a pair of very nice videos! You certainly enjoy tacking the larger airports!
    You appear to have an iPad running a pretty cool app that shows a moving map with sectionals, approach plates, and airport diagrams. What is that app??
    Thanks in advance!

    • @martinpauly
      @martinpauly  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Douglas,
      Thanks for your comments. The app you see running on the iPad is called WingX Pro. It shows all those things, along with your aircraft position on top. Also shows ADS-B weather and traffic if you have ADS-B "in".
      There are a few similar apps, like ForeFlight, Garmin Pilot, FltPlan Go. The last one is free, the other ones are paid apps (subscriptions). Pretty much a matter of personal preference. I suggest you look for trial versions and see which one you like best.

      Hi Martin - Thanks for your reply.
      I must share with you ... I'm thinking about getting another A-36, and it's all your fault! I had a A-36 a long time ago, sold it 'cause my girlfriend was a sailor so it turned into a 42' Island Packet cutter.
      Well, she's long gone, all the sailing has wrecked my skin, and frankly it's a big boat and sailing her is becoming a bit strenuous. So the boat's for sale and watching your excellent videos has raised my enthusiasm for another plane.
      Thanks again for the info on the Ipad app. When I sold 78T we were just seeing GPS coming into play, so you might say I have a lot of technology catching up to do. Do you know of a place where such things are reviewed fairly? I used to get Aviation Consumer - perhaps they're on top of this stuff.
      Tailwinds to you my friend,
      Doug

    • @martinpauly
      @martinpauly  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Doug,
      Happy to be "guilty" of talking you into a Bonanza again. I hope you'll love it!
      Regarding reviews, Aviation Consumer is helpful in weeding out the bad stuff. Problem is, the remaining GOOD stuff is often very similar in function and capability, and differs mostly in user interface concepts. The best advice I can give you is spend some time flying shotgun in different airplanes and experiment with different kinds of GPSs. And try multiple different apps. See what you like best. Also, if you haven't yet, join BeechTalk.com - lots of good discussion on avionics and other stuff there.
      Good luck!
      - Martin

    Thanks for the great video Martin. I enjoy watching your adventures. I'm curious, how much does it cost to own and operate your aircraft?

    • @martinpauly
      @martinpauly  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh my, that's a tough question to answer. I fear any numbers I would respond with might not apply to your location, aircraft, or the kind of flying you do.

    • @blued8107
      @blued8107 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the reply Martin! In general, not really looking at specifics just looking at operational with the type of touring you do. Is it expensive to own and operate

    Hey Martin, how do you get all the other traffic around you to show up on your map? i bounce between using foreflight and German pilot? thanks. I enjoy watching your video.

    • @martinpauly
      @martinpauly  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Fun2Fly, the other traffic is shown by the "WingX Pro" app, taking its input from an ADS-B "in" receiver (SkyRadar in my case). There are other receivers and other apps (e.g. ForeFlight) out there that will do the same thing.

    Hey whats a good strategy to copy the taxi clearances, can the aircraft be moving, any tips would help? Good vid.

    • @martinpauly
      @martinpauly  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is a topic where different things work for different people. It helps if the aircraft isn't moving, but that's not always an option as you get more taxi instructions after your taxi has begun.
      A couple of things that helps me are
      - Short-hand notation for writing things down: things like 'rwy', 'hs', 'x' for 'runway', ' hold short', and 'cross', as well as arrows pointing left and right
      - Anticipation: with the airport diagram, try to understand ahead of time what the likely routes are going to be. The more I do that, the more familiar things will sound when I talk to Ground.

    Great Video, especially the radio work. And, I have a question: what is causing the reception static? Is it your engine?

    • @martinpauly
      @martinpauly  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! Regarding the static, I had an avionics shop look into it, but they couldn't identify the source. It surre seems to be engine/RPM related - it's fine on the ground at low RPM, but the moment I advance the throttle for take-off, the static starts. Also affects some frequencies more than others.

    Everyone who lands at an airport has to pay a landing fee?(private pilot)? even if you don't use their services?

    • @martinpauly
      @martinpauly  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      At larger airports that is the norm. Small airports usually don't have a landing fee, though there are some exceptions.
      This applies to the US. In other countries, it is very common even for small airports (including grass strips) to charge a landing fee.

    that's a LONG ATIS !

    • @martinpauly
      @martinpauly  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No doubt, Tim! This is very common at large airports, and I question the value. There is so much in there that is non-essential, like taxiway closures when the tower will tell you which route to take anyway. Keep it short and concise, so that it's easy to get the things that really matter - that's my vote!

      Oh well, this is the Internet... A person could come up with the cure for cancer here, and I bet there'd be some people disliking it.
