I heard he actually didn’t want to do it cause he was worried his voice wouldn’t sound good enough for the performance, but everyone convinced him to still do it. And I’m glad he did, because it became such a popular performance, for obvious reasons. He sang incredibly. And you could feel it. So many artists can sing, but they struggle to let you hear that raw emotion in their voice. You can feel the song through his voice and you can see it plan as day on his face. That’s what makes an incredible performer.

I don’t know how much you know about Disturbed. So in case you don’t know much. They are a heavy, emphasis on heavy, metal band. They do have some mellower songs, “Hold on to Memories” official live is my favorite. “A Reason to Fight” is a beautiful song with a powerful message. For some harder songs, “Down with the sickness” is their first big hit in 2000. “Stricken””Prayer””Stupify” almost all of their songs have powerful messages. The lead singer is David Draiman. He is a trained Cantor, so not only a beautiful voice, but power too. Power is very important as it helps them to teach. They have been around since the mid 90s but he still works with a vocal coach and knows how to keep his voice healthy. He’s been singing for over 20 years and still he can sing with a pure clear voice.
You should watch his music video of Sound of Silence (even on your own time). I was never a fan of Metal but after hearing Disturbed’s version of this I explored their music. There were songs that I didn’t like but there were several that I liked. I also liked that he is actively raising awareness for mental health and addiction. His song A Reason to Fight is very powerful
an awesome cover of a superb tune. The only other singer to achieve such a dynamic cover was Joe Cocker with "With a Little Help from My Friends." of course a Beatles tune. Thank you for your heartfelt reactions

Nothing beats a live performance. Evidently, this almost didn't happen, the story I've read is that he had a bad cold/infection and he almost didn't perform. If you listen to the released studio cover, you'll hear some subtle differences, David is doing much less vocal fry at the start for this performance. Even Paul Simon has said this is no longer his song but Disturbeds. Just so you know, PTX also has there own cover of this and yes, the styles are totally different
S&G are very talented. Now, regarding this song (which I love), in my opinion, the Disturbed cover gives it a twist. David Draiman and the boys really owned it.
