For sure. It was the album that came right after Continuum, so that might have something to do with its underrated status. Such a wonderful album though. So bleak, so sad, and at times so unapologetically hopeless. Love it
The songs main riff was created by accident when he was trying to come up with the hardest warm up exercise he could think of ! So if JM finds it tricky us mortals shouldn’t even be able to play it
@@TJJJJJJJJJJJ It's really good exercise btw, I play different genres (in a cover band, the usual pop/rock/oldies and in a Metal band) so this has been my exercise since like 2010
Aishwarya Habbu I feel like that’s true with a lot of the greats. At least for me. My other favs include Dave Matthews and Keith Urban and I feel the same at their shows. 🙂
Yes that’s true but definitely not for this one! :p There is another live version of this song which is better than the studio version, I hope you check that one out. ✌🏻
Exactly!. I read comments all the time of dudes criticizing his playing. I want to comment back you guys can't even play his songs, let alone sing and play them at the same time.
@@aaronperrotta7055 I think what's most impressive is he CAME UP with those licks and riffs. A good guitar player can play them by listening to the record or using tabs but to actually come up with them and incorporate them into great songs? That's on a whole other level of awesome.
My daughter and i were at this concert. Shortly before he went on stage we were lucky enough to meet him for 15 minutes ... chat, signatures and photos. Really nice guy. So laid back considering he was about to step out in front of 20,000 people. Has to be one of the best concerts I've ever attended (and there have been quite a few!) :-)
reading this made me scream like a fan girl on the inside i immediately went to the end of the video im so happy lmao let down is one of my favorite songs ever
Love David Ryan Harris' nodding at 6:13, as if to show his approval of John's Radiohead cover... What an amazing performance, I was there that night and this was one of the highlights. Thanks so much for uploading!
Great Quality! This really is one of my favourite songs ever from John! This version was beautiful. Feel it in my bones. Especially because i just lost a girl and I'm scared she'll forget about me... Thx for uploading this one!
to be able to play that riff while singing... that's why John Mayer is one of the greats! a feat that Ed Sheeran can never never do even with his loop pedal..facts
time sig is like 6/8 or 3/4 too which also throws a lot of people off this, but if people nail their major harmonic scale it's not that bad under your fingers, not syaing its easy but you will get it quicker!
5:58 the rust that must be had during this moment if front of thousands, completely improvising the outro whilst knowing his energy will be felt through the entire rest of the band. btw im looking for a team, I play right wing if anyone knows a drummer with a tolerable personality
Hi everyone! Rainkid on the speaker 🔊 Just released our very first song "Rose". Check it out and give us some feedback, that would be great. See you, Rainkid ❤
damn it. before i hit "play the commerical was it was for my favorite yogurt omg I LOVE mom can you get yogurt. go omg kids these days if they say like cross country and like not to run because the omg (fourth wall break i love john.. happy almost birthday birthday cuteness omg he is so look omg look omg look he omg look. i love him omg is he a jerk?
When your on stage you have to rely on monitors to hear yourself,if they are too loud you sing flat,if you can't hear yourself very well you sing sharp as John was here, ,when you can write and 0lay like this you can forgive him lol
Battles Studies might be his most underrated album.
For sure. It was the album that came right after Continuum, so that might have something to do with its underrated status. Such a wonderful album though. So bleak, so sad, and at times so unapologetically hopeless. Love it
Still the best album, for me...
the most underrated album is born & raised. enough said.
aksel lindberg 💤💤💤
Had this same discussion recently. Completely agree. This song Assasins and Friends, Lovers or Nothing are complete gems.
This song is his Masterpiece
???
He has so many lol
I think people don’t realize how much it’s difficult to play and sing this song at the same time for 6 minutes without one mistake

Continuum and Battle Studies is like a double album..
still his greatest
To play and sing this simultaneously, Legendary
It's crazy how great John Mayer sings and plays live, better than the studio versions sometimes.

Great moment!!! How did you approach him? You had Meet and Greet or behind the stage or how?
@@leonardoruiz3350 Yes - meet and greet.
I know the guy who designed the Born & Raised album cover. Ever since then John has looked after him whenever he performs in the UK.
Such a simple solo but good God it hits the soul just right!! Such a talented musician
This solo is a perfect example of how simple genius things can be.
This song is on an infinite level to play and sing at the same time. Amazing talent.
DRH's tone over that end part is sooo good. It sounds HUGE
This is the only song of his that gets better every time I listen to it for 5 straight hours
Never a disappointment
Lives to Sing
Keep on rocking
My all time tearjerker 😭
OH my god finally a great quality clip of JM and not a shaky, shitty clip filled with the tops of people's heads! thank you for the upload
I love his cover of Let Down by Radiohead at the end of this song. Couldn't believe my luck when I heard it live that night... thanks for posting
so lucky...
reading this made me scream like a fan girl on the inside i immediately went to the end of the video im so happy lmao let down is one of my favorite songs ever
Sigh! Heartbreaking, yet magical.
This London concert sounds glorious, wish i had been there.
I'm melted!.... Amazing Mayer!
Dang! This is a perfect song while drinking coffee
Is he really this good live? He is so talented. Awesome stuff. Top of my bucket list to see him next time he's in the UK. Please let it be soon
loved the "medley" with Let Down by Radiohead in the end! LOVE IT!!!!
Was there that night. This was my favorite song he did.
My favorite song by John Mayer 😘@love 😎 🎸🎶🎶🔊 #johnmayer @johnmayer 😍
Great seeing John with an SG ahead of him. So different his view and sound.
That visually suits him much better than the Silver Sky imo.
He will always be better with a strat
One of my fav John songs.
💥☄️😁👌✌️🕊🕊✨✨🌹🕯💫love this song 🎧✨✨❤️🙏still listening .Thank you very much for sharing.💐
I'm a mess after that LOVE YOU JM keep blowing my mind plz

Love this Song....😍😍😍
Incredible live. Really sits in the pocket
"Maybe this mattress will spin on its axis and find me on yours".... Corny as hell, but damn clever lyrics.
Creative man. Corny, yet creative!
Can someone explain this
Really miss this vocal range John post surgery
Always smile when I see DRH
John my love!
was there ;-)
Nicobouds I was there too and so glad that he played this...it's my favourite 😊
Nicobouds I went to the one in Texas but he did not play this one. It's my favorite song from him so I envy you a little bit haha
Rare to see John touch that gibson
The SG tone just perfect for this song. If you use les paul, its just close to this tone.
@@xandermohan6331 using a prs for it currently
He uses any humbucker guitar for this song but mostly the sg
epic!!!
Anyone else pick up on that Radiohead "Let Down" teaser towards the end?
To play this is really hard. To play this and sing - nearly impossible. Lol. Great song probz My fave on the album
I love the riff
David Ryan and Sharkey went in 💥
❤❤❤
Love to see John play an SG
🥺

Am I having a stroke or does this make absolutely no sense?
funny how he took all the hard parts in the guitar while singing and hiring other guitarists to do the strumming haha!
He was so damn out of tune. It must be cause he's playing those wonderful riffs while singing.
