  • Enjoy this surprise like I did!!!! Driving back from the show right now! In awe!
Mayer was opening as an alternative for Khalid, Ed Sheeran asked him the possibility of him opening since the two are friends. Mayer was doing it as a favor as he is touring with Dead and Company.
You can read about it here!
    johnmayer/status/...
I do not own these songs or performance, was just filming it for those who could not attend.

I do not know John Mayer, but it seems to me that during the mid 2000's he was simultaneously dealing with fame and commercial success pressures while still growing as a musician and experimenting with different compositional techniques and collaborative projects. So, I tend to give him a lot of slack for any perceived 'acting out' or stepping back from popular music creation.

Loving up on John for all the hard work and effort he’s putting forth this summer! He’s really covering all the bases, proving what a unique and organic human being he really is. He’s a headliner himself right now, twice over. There’s no need for him to do this opener except out of love and friendship for Ed. I love it. Love him even more.

I love the fact that he got to have that feeling of being an opening act and experience the humbleness that comes with having to win over a crowd. He is a world class musician and songwriter having to acknowledge that maybe the crowd hasn't heard his songs. I've seen JM several times, and his recent solo concert! He is out of this world insanely musically gifted. To come to an ED concert, and John Mayer just walks in to open up, I would be full of emotions. I love love love JM so much! ❤❤❤

Seriously thought John was wearing a T shirt of a popular courier. So cool. Isn’t it amazing how just one voice and one acoustic (no layering and banking of additional sounds) can carry so well.

I was there. It was epic. It was going to be Khalid but Mayer replaced him due to a car accident a few days prior.

Ed asked him the day before, he seemed happy to do it. Even made shirts..
