I have two of these, (almost identical) one the same as yours with the mesh/coil chimney and one with the mesh/glass chimney. The mesh/glass chimney is the cleaner burning of the two designs, that said both tend to smoke/smell a bit at start up and shut down no matter how fast I think I am. I use the mesh/coil unit in the garage (with C02 detector) and have the mesh/glass model in the box for emergency house heat. My plan is to burn winter diesel in the garage unit
Use parrafin OIL to avoid the kerosene smell. It burns clean and odorless. They are the same family but different processing methods. Also, look up Klean Heat. 😉 Thanks for the review!
Yes. You don't tilt it. Someones units have a dispositive who turn it off if is tilted. And you don't fill it at top. They haven't an hermetic fuel tank. Move it carefully.
Quick question. Mines been half full for 30 min but it won't light. Am I gonna have to unscrew the top each time to light it? Mines shorter than yours and I can't get my hand up close to it. But I've used a long handle butane lighter and it just won't catch. More time to soak?
Debbie, are you lifting the heating element and lighting the actual wick under it. It should start, mind did pretty much the first time. Make sure you turn the wick all the way up when you start it.
@ItsMePaulyC HEY thx for answering. I did lift up the element but still nothing. I unscrewed the outside cage and removed it so I could raise it further and it lit. So I've put it back on and it's lit nicely now. I'll have to shut it down and try again to make sure it's working smoothly. Puts off wonderful heat. I feel much safer w this than the Little Buddy. Husband used to do all this for me. He thanks you from his grave for helping me. ☺️💪
Given the potentially suspect welds the likely thin metal, I tend to agree that using indoors might not be the best idea. But unless you are in a tiny space, I wouldn't worry too much about fumes and the like. In the 80's, nearly every family I knew had one of the 30,000BTU Kerosun brand heaters in the family room or basement. However, for use in a fish house or on a concrete floor in a garage, it could be a decent option.
My family actually had a bigger, rectangular unit back in the 80's in the lower level of the house where it was cooler in the winter. Brings back memories of the Kerosene smell lol
I burnt this 45 min outside, I used tonight in house and fumes were bad, I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, wick hieght to high liting idk but to strong to run, any help would be appreciated
If you use pure Kerosene, it will have a strong odour. I only used mine in my garage and yes it does smell. I tested Parrafin oil in my smaller lamps and what a difference! Once I burn off the rest of the Kerosene in this unit, I am going to replace it with Parrafin Lamp oil.
@davidhansen9665 Maybe try a different brand of Kerosene. I happened on one w no smell. Crown Kerosene from Walmart. I used my lanterns and someone remarked there was no smell.
Hopefully no one pays over $100 as this is all over Aliexpress and can be found for under $40 delivered, though some listings have stupid high shipping. But if it works well enough, $40 seems reasonable.
I'm thinking maybe the price is higher other places because some of these come with three or four extra wicks also. But it's good to know about that Express thing I'm going to look it up.
Believe it or not, it was $40 (Canadian Dollars) at the time I bought it which was about 3 or 4 months ago as you can see at about 5:38 in the video. I was just on amazon looking at the prices now. WOW did they ever go up!
@@debbiechadwick861 it’s crazy how much these have went up! I was super lucky to get it at $40. Hopefully they put them down in price again. It’s a pretty nice unit.
Nice heater but I hate the smell of kerosine and diesel fuels . Have fun stay safe.
Kerosene has been used for generations indoor Kerosene lamps
When I tell people we use one indoor when it’s really cold they look at me sideways and question it always

@@190simplyme thank you for the advice! I will definitely have to try that! Thanks for watching!
I just filled mine up and tilting it, fuel leaks around sqaure wick body, is that normal
Sorry for the late response, David. I haven't noticed any leaks thus far.

Did you soak the wick for an hour or so prior to lighting?

You can get one in used and good conditions.
OK I just got mine today but I was hoping to see how to get the wick inside of it. It came with the wick separate.
Can I store it with kerosene in it? I want to get it set up and ready so I can have it when the power goes out this winter. I know it will.
@@debbiechadwick861 Congratulations!!!
There are a lot of videos explaining how to change de wick. Chose one on TH-cam .
