You have to time your long rests perfectly and it can only be done as The Dark Urge. You have time rests to line up with priority cut scenes, like recruiting Karlach. Otherwise after the grove fight his bite will be up as it is secondary priority after you reach the grove.
@@kiterafrey thats weird, i long rested around 15 times(after every fight because i wanted all possible camp scenes) in act 1 before going to underdark and never got his bite scene lol edit: my approval was as high as possible because i use approval mod so chose dialogues he approves of except 2 times(when talking to zevlor at grove and recruiting halsin to go with me) because resist durge
I really wish there was an alternate "bite scene" if Astarion confesses to you that he is a vampire. Along the lines of him shaking you awake and asking for a nibble or a dialogue where you can offer your neck to him after said confession.
@@almalexiel If you go long enough without getting his bite, he'll confess to you randomly when you talk to him. For me, it happened when I entered the underdark and ruined my first run of this challenge so I had to start over. Edit: It is random, only happens at high level approval. It is fully random after high level approval if you haven't had the bite scene yet. UNLESS you enter the underdark, which forces it to happen because his dialog in the underdark requires your knowledge in the if/then clause of the code.
I installed the mod that displays the exclamation point over YOUR head whenever camp interactions become available. I basically finished all of act one without the confession. It didn’t even occur to me to try and „carry over“ the confession into act two. I just hunkered down and speedran all the piled up interactions. ^^

So, I know this has been a hot min - I attempted to do skip Nere and go to moonrise. The first thing he did entering Act 2 was attempt to bite me. I hadn't even long rested, it just went straight into the cut scene. It was awkward and didn't make sense. I'm tempted to do a follow up video, as I took a very different faster path the second time, but it'll have the same ending sadly.
i try my best to make him wait to bite as long as possible bc realistically i do not think he'd try biting the protagonist 2 long rests in. Like he probably wants to trust the protagonist first which is why I'm glad i can delay it at least 6 days in 😭
Realistically someone has to have tried it, IDK about if someone’s filmed it. My guess, because there are preset coded in versions of the scene, it'll default to the version of him unromanced entering the scene. If you came in with him dead then rez him it'd probably default to you speaking to cazador without him.
I haven't gotten a chance to watch the video yet but I have just been doing this too! I got to level 5, Day 26 of Eleasis (Day 7). But I'm stuck now. If I talk to him, he confesses vampirism. If I long rest, he bites. I did sleep with him at the tiefling party (had 39 approval at the time, also tested 40 approval and seemed to be the same).
I didn't track my exact days, but rather story events. Counting those events now, I made it 10 rests before the bite. If I'd skipped my first 3 rests I could've gone farther in the story, but I would lose several Astarion easy approval points. I may have to try again. I desperately want to make it to a specific point to test a theory that this run created for me.

You could just kill him so he never confesses. You can keep it up until having to enter act 2. It stops companions from auto updating their personal quests. It is also safe to long rest at that point when he is dead then just revive him via withers.
Interesting. I definitely want to try and do with him alive for the challenge, but it would also be cool to do what you're suggesting as a way to hack into different variants of scenes for characters to see just how much Larian planned for
@@kiterafrey I did this to keep wyll from getting horns hahaha before long resting, I fill wyll with suicidal thoughts and make him go into a chasm…then I can long rest and have him not have horns despite karlach living.
@@kiterafrey i was being sarcastic…hahahah I just meant I control as him and make him jump off a chasm…it is also how I farmed approval for gale early on my making him kill himself so I can get his scroll and then revive via withers(then pickpocket the gold back hahaha)…I got a ton of approval for that and got him to confess about his condition before he ever needed to consume an artifact. You can only do that in Act 3 when forcing companions to use the astral tadpole. Effed up i know
The differences of the bite scene that I got and the bite scene with high approval and (?) much later on in the game is interesting. He did NOT gaf about my character 😭😭
@@kiterafrey The question mark is because I'm not sure if game progression has anything to do with the changed dialogue, or if it's simply the approval differences - when he first bit my character, it was early on and he's still kind of putting on an act with them, while the scene here, he's softer and more pleading.

Okay, but what if he hates you or is in Dislike with you. I’ve been trying to figure them out so for storytelling purposes, I know which ones to activate. Like I know if I play shadow heart and I tell him that I worship Shar and fail in the beginning he is not keen on us.
If he hates you, aside from the X scene, you could go just as long without his vampire confession. I chose to do it romancing him to share that love scene's unique version. But if you don't romance him you will not discover his scars until Act 2 at the earlist. For Origins, don't confess a secret to him until after his bite scene unless you are The Dark Urge or unless he asks (like with Gale he'll ask after your first consumption), or until you hit Medium approval naturally. At Neutral he doesn't trust you and though not an active disapproval for all, he'll passivly disapprove, meaning the choice impacts without a prompt but doesn't effect approval rates. Like how in Gales romance you need 3 heroic choices in the grove, but it doesn't matter which, to get his confession.
for me his main first interaction was him basically confessing to me that he was a vampire, haven't come across the bite thing yet in act one but I hope the interaction still happens regardless
So you'll only get one version, the bite or the confession. Once you get one you forfeit the other. To get the bite you'll need to have him in your active party for several long rests. Or not get the confession then enter Act 2 having not gotten said confession.
Oh and i think i was alone with this challenge. 😂 but i struggle. He is so long neutral with me if he don't bite me even if i give him the book of thay. 😢 so i dcared let him bite me and then he likes me more😂
It can be rough. I've romanced him many times before the run, so I have most of his higher rated approvals memorized, I don't think I could've pull it off if I hadn't gotten to know him so well.
What if you kill astarion before long rests to alleviate tge cutscene problem alltogether. Just ask withers to revive him at full hp after the long rest and it shouls be okay right.
There is a point in the game for certain scenes that itll force you into an unexpected long rest and go straight into the scene. I found this out on a second attempt but it was so near to how far I made it alone, I decided not to make a second video that would've been nearly identical for 95% of it. It will also stack them, example if you got Karlach but not Wyll yet he'll come to camp and then instantly after I got the bite scene.
@@kiterafrey that is a really strange interaction because having experimented quite a bit with long rests in act 1 the way it prioritizes cutscenes is akward. from my experience the Karlach/wyll cutsc enes are highest priority with Dream guardian cutscenes being seconds if you meet the requirements. Durge also seems to have a higher priority especially if you kill alfira or quill beforehand the enxt long rewst as high priority to be the follow up cutscene. Mizora usually tends to show up before the bite as well. becauser of the way I play through act one I always have to force multiple long rests to get it because it doesn't seem to trigger after he confesses being a vamp which I have heard can hzappen and this triggers anything past overworld act 1 aka underdark but also transition to act2 zones like mountain pass and obviously grymforge. finally the lowest priority cutscene is the owlbear one but it can trigger all the way up to act 2 so it makes sense.
@@cloudy978 No, you're spot on, that is the order stack. I used that order to do this video. However, if you try to enter Act 2 through the Grymforg or Mountains it forces you into a scene. Think of it like when you leave the Gith Creche and if you leave the mountains without resting you'll go into a long rest and as soon as you sleep Voss shows up. The same function applies to scenes required for the story of Act 2. Those scenes are the 1st Dream Visitor visit, Karlac/Wyll, Alfira's death, and Astarion's bite. I've never had them all stack at once, that might be fun to try to see the order it does them in, but it'll stack them. If you haven't done Wyll/Karlach the screen fades to black when you enter the Act 2 elevator or pass and it goes directly to the Wyll/Karlach scene. If you haven't done Alfira after that she'll show up. You then have to rest as normal, unless you have other scenes. If you haven't done the bite scene it'll be after you sleep, if you have cut scenes at camp like Wyll/Karlach or meeting Raphael. Whereas if you don't have any other scenes to get, you fade from black into the bite scene. Some scenes that don't require being done for the story, like the Owlbear scenes, will be postponed until the next long rest. It doesn't take that long to achieve if I'm not trying to romance anyone, I'll see if I can put together that as a video for later this week :)

I rather date a Vampire so the romantic vampire and ascended routes fit me. I love bites too and if he were to push me like that I wouldnt see it as pushing away. Id see it as teasing. The hand gestures show that. Hes not evil nor abusive. Asterion is just a hungry man and im love with him and every hot Vampire man. That lip feeding made me feral.
I'm glad they removed the scared Tav face from the ascended kisses. My Tav looking scared when they first launched those new kisses was ruining it for me. Having my lover put their hands on my neck after willing getting on my knees wouldn't scare me. I still like Spawn Astarion better, but because I can relate to him. But only in personality, I prefer Ascended Astarion's lover style better - it is more vampiric to me. I agree, he isn't evil or abusive. I do think he gets full jerk if you try to dump him after but I think that makes sense as when you turn he does the ritual to make you a "vampire bride" (tho Larian made it a gender neutral term by making it Dark Courtesan instead.) The ritual requires 3 bites followed by draining every drop of your blood and it binds you to them as their lover/mate for eternity. It makes the lover something between a spawn and a full vampire and in forgotten realms vampire lore is the highest honor. But he can't ever stop being in love with you, so him getting upset if you try to leave and reject the life-mate status of course he'll be upset.

I can always try again by skipping Nere and picklocking into Moonrise but Nere was just the max my health could take without another long rest.
