Thank you for watching! This episode, was a ton of fun and really eye opening. Sitting down with Chef Kathy and getting to know her and her family was humbling. What was supposed to be about Chef Kathy really ended up being about her Father. It was amazing to see Mr.Fang using the knife. I hope you enjoy it as I still navigate this journey. Please subscribe and also comment and let me know your thoughts! Have a wonderful day! - Max
btw, there was a moment where I was trying to keep it together without dying of laughter. The moment where Chef Kathy was breaking down fish and I captured Mr Fang just staring.
thx for yet another great video. Got myself a cleaver about a year ago and have barely used it because of 1 major design flaw. It's wasn't a top brand but not a cheap one either. I can't believe someone ever bothered to test the design. When I put my finger slightly in front of the handle like I constantly see in this video my skin is damaged in about 2 minutes. The edges on top are just too sharp.
@@IgorEngelen1974if you have a ceramic rod, a dowel with sandpaper, a diamond rod, etc. it is very easy to fix that! Just make sure to tape the handle so you don't accidentally scratch it. On all my most used knives at home and my knives I bring to work it is one of my standard things I do that makes it more comfy. I do use a powered setup using the Work Sharp Ken Onion Edition with the blade grinding attaychment, but I have also done it by hand with the above mentioned methods. The Spyderco sharpmaker rods are really good for this if you want to get fully back to the handle Sincerely, JS
As a child of chinese immigrants, I can fully understand the "frugalness". To see Chef Fang's reaction is amazing. I hope he realises it was given of of love and respect and not frivolous "spending". 👍
I seriously thought I was watching a multi-million subscriber channel given the production quality and attention to detail. Instant fan... Time to binge all of your videos
This channel is criminally underrated, felony level. You deserve everything that's coming your way and can't wait to see those subscriber numbers 10000x very soon. Really great content
I did not expect to cry, but here I am crying after Kathy's father just changed when he saw the piece of art you created for him, seriously Max, you're knives tell the story of who you are making them for and they are artwork. Well done
I was never really interested in knife making, but the level of quality and storytelling in your video's is outstanding. I could watch these all day. You will get to 1 million subs eventually I have no doubt. Bravo !!!
This was such a pure beautiful reaction from both of them, Soft spoken culture but to bring that kind of emotion out was literally priceless to the viewer and them as well. Please never stop these videos.
As a fellow maker it is true that seeing the reaction and joy of the person using your work fuels the passion to bring people together with the love of their passion. Well done sir.
Your videos need to blow up, because wow. Your personality as well as your kind nature adds to everything most love to see. Paired with talent, and it becomes something many love watching. So thank you for being you, and please don’t stop making these videos 😭
So great to see the families appreciation for such works of art. Not only the art of making the knives but the food and traditions they pass along everyday to their customers. Very humbled by this. 🙏😇🙏🔥🔥👍👍
Normally I would just watch a video like this for the knifemaking side of things specifically, but my favorite part was definitely watching Mr. Fang cut with the knife for the first time. It was absolutely heart warming watching his reaction and I was smiling like a fool the whole time. I love it! Keep these videos coming, they're amazing!
Max, keep doing what you do and keep being you. My lil dudes and I look forward to watching your videos and craft. They were super excited when I told them you posted a new video yesterday, and could not wait to watch it tonight. My 6 year has loved cooking since he was in a highchair and has not waivered, he wants to be a chef. He asked me while watching if he could have one of your creations one day when he is a chef, of course I said yes. Thank you for the family time and you made me login to TH-cam for the 1st time in 15+ years to show you that little extra support. I could not figure out how to recover my original account, but you earned our 1st family subscribe ever. Cheers mate.
that goes a long way for you to say that. thank you. I appreciate the follow! I have kids too in that age range so thats probably way I keep yelling "will it cut" because they laugh each time.
I think this is the first time I’ve ever left a TH-cam comment. I have always been fascinated with cooking but especially the aspect of knifes specifically the beauty and sharpness of them involved with cooking. Ever since watching my dad sharpen his knifes Before watching him cook I’ll never be able to afford his knifes but grateful I can be a part of his art through watching these videos.
I’m pretty sure this is my new favorite Channel. I’m pissed I already watch all the videos. I wish I never did so I can watch them for the first time again. Good on you man.
I never comment on anything but I just wanted to say that the way that man’s appreciation for life and seeing something that is so well made made makes me so joyful. It’s a wonder the things humans can craft and I think it’s one of the most purest gifts you can give is a thing made for someone else. It doesn’t hurt that the thing is something that will be used as it was intended to be and is appreciated everyday.
For me, the best part of when I make something for someone is to see their reaction when they open it. I love that you show this part of making something custom.
Heck I almost cried! lol watching father and daughter in kitchen hits very close to home for me so that was very touching and just beautiful works of art to see in action.
Seeing him go from stoic to a kid on Christmas morning in a fraction of a second was magical. You could tell how excited and surprised he was at not only the beauty of the cleaver, but the performance. Masterfully done.
Hey, man. I really love your vids. You've been killing it. Your knives are an absolute work of art, and their reaction was so wholesome. Can't wait to see what next you have in store for us
40 subs does not do this channel justice. your Videos are done on the level of someone with millions of subs, your knives are beautiful. What sold me on this video is the reaction of the older Chinese man, you don't get reactions out of that generation for no reason well done.
Easily became one of my favourite channels. You don't just make beautiful knives, you deliver their story beautifully as well. Keep up the good work man!
I usually don’t comment on things, but I just had to say something after stumbling upon your channel a few hours ago. I got totally hooked and ended up binge watching all your videos! Everything is so well done, and I found it super entertaining. Your creativity really stands out, and the way you pay attention to detail is amazing. The way you put everything together keeps it interesting and presented in a way that keeps me wanting more. I genuinely think you have something special, and I can’t wait to see your channel blow up! Keep up the awesome work! 😮💨
The way you tell the story and make a true piece of art at the same time is beautiful but this video is amazing your love for knife making and the chefs love for food is truly expressed in the eyes of a loving father
The name of this channel is so perfect too! "Majime" but the good qualities of it and not the extreme, robotic, un-feeling, logistical qualities of "majime". ☺
I totally get her dads reaction, I spent a bit of time in Japan trying to find the perfect chef knife for myself and the first cut will tell you everything you need to know.
I don't know how, every one of your videos I watch gives me a feeling of absolute serenity. This may just be my opinion, however, I believe this is one of the best channels out.
I have been loving watching knife videos forever and am starting to get into the craft. I am loving these episodes of life beyond the craft. It shows the use and reason for the knives. I just found your channel today and am already done watching everything. Can't wait for more. I rarely hit the bell on youtube but in this case.. its still ringing.
What stunning knives! And the reaction of Mr.Fang from the moment he picked up the knife to the moment he first cut something with it. I have a feeling he will be using that cleaver a lot 😊
I was thrilled this came out today! You have done a wonderful job capturing a little of their family saga and even adding to it. I hope you keep enjoying the work you do and that you keep doing it because of your joy. Thanks again!
These episodes are incredible, thank you for doing this! Im rather surprised that you make knives like an ordinary human. For the quality and finish i had pictured some state of the art facilities and equipment!
Impressing an elderly Chinese chef should be an equivalent of a Pulitzer prize for knife makers.
Loved the episode!
"ooooh...!"
Seeing her dad light up the moment he saw the knife really made me laugh - I love your videos :)
and the boyish enthusiasm when using it.
Yeah more of this please
Wow, these are like netflix quality documents, but better. Nice !

Is there a different channel that shows the process of making the knives? Not the story around them?
