This is great! While I'm a dedicated n-scaler, the heft of O really appeals to me too - maybe I'll do an On30 switching layout one day. I enjoyed learning about gargraves track, I'd heard RBP Trains talk about them before but didn't know their peculiarities. Neat stuff. I'm curious to see the passenger car conversions take place, I'm working on my own in N scale and look forward to seeing what you come up with,.
Hey Micheal! Just found your channel via this video, and I have to say, I like your style. The videography is nice and the way you explain things is simple, to the point, like talkin' with a friend. You've got a subscriber, and I'm excited to see what becomes of this! I'm workin' on my own HO-Scale layout so hopefully I can learn and apply a thing or two. Keep at it! :)
Glad you enjoyed! The camera falling off the train was a genuine accident. It was balanced on the roofwalk of the boxcar, and I guess the bumps going over the switch knocked it off. My original plan was for the shot at 1:02 to be the end of the sequence, but after seeing the footage from the accident, I thought that would be funnier.
There's my answer to the question of why the camera fell off, I also like the timing of the music with the camera falling off the train Which makes it even funnier lol
5:03 is there ability for the tracks to expand and contract? I have seen for my own eyes layouts where the track has become un-usable because they soldered every track joiner together
There is not, but this layout is located in an attic where I don't think the humidity is likely to change very much. Worst case, I can pop the roadbed loose from the doors and shift it slightly.
Awesome Michael! It will be enjoyable watching the progress. 😊 Somewhere I saw LED bulbs that were a direct replacement for the bulbs in your Williams passenger cars. I think the Gargraves switchpoints are definitely worth it. Is there a particular era or era range you are going to stick with?
Thanks! I'm going to stick to 1960s era rolling stock and earlier. I see the Lone Pine as either a museum in the early days of steam preservation, or a short line that never got around to fully dieselizing. I'd like to have a mix of steam locomotives and older diesels.
If you are looking for good equipment at a lower price my grandpa has a large amount of weaver brass engines equipped with tmcc and they are wonderful models of medium-smaller size steam locomotives
I would recommend sticking to either mth or tmcc command systems as buying tmcc and mth ps3 systems are expensive. The new Lionel controller system is $500 as the mth is not for sale new so it might be worth checking that out
Great to see you working on a new layout. btw does the Lone Pine in the Lone Pine railroad have anything to do with the town of Lone Pine California or the Southern Pacific's Lone Pine branch?
It could if you want! Like the W&SC, the Lone Pine is wherever you want it to be. I see it as being on the East Coast (loosely inspired by the Long Island Railroad), but you're free to make up your own lore. Given that I'm originally from California, it does kinda make sense.
If u buy o scale figures it's gonna be weird to have an go adult twice a small as an o scale adult or car so I just like to say that in the lone pine railroad the W&SC doesn't exist due to go big it is
Loreee to the Lone Pine railroad the Lone Pine Railroad was made because the previous railroads (not the W&SC) didn't really care about there fleet of engines or there customers like they made the cost to get from Massachusetts to Rode Island is 10,000 dollars per person and if one of their engines needed maintenance they would just use a band aid and thus the Lone Pine Railroad was born to make rail travel reliable and cheap but it had its competitor The American Central lead by mr Walkerton and only cares about his money.
I am in the process of figuring out a way to add an On30 line somewhere. I'm thinking maybe an elevated point-to-point line above part of the standard gauge mainline, loosely based on the 1890s elevated railways of Chicago and New York. I have a Bachmann On30 Forney locomotive that would be perfect for something like that.
I used these offset door hinges from Amazon. They shift the pivot point so that the gate can lift up and not snag the ends of the track as it pivots. www.amazon.com/dp/B0C4F91QQJ?th=1
I haven't tried it personally, but it looks like a good low-budget way to get started in O gauge. I especially appreciate that they're continuing to manufacture traditional tubular track. I've thought about doing a project series where I buy one of their F-units and seeing how much I can upgrade it to look and perform like a more expensive model.
@@oddjob1795 Right now, all I have is what's shown in this video. I've got my eye on a few more items though, once I save up some money. I'd like to get a better diesel switcher, an old-timey 4-4-0 of some sort, and a big passenger engine for the Pullmans - maybe a Hudson or a Pacific or something like that.
You mean a “general” class 4-4-0 that’s what Lionel calls them. Oh and by the by, get a mikado. Plus I know a shop called the train cellar good low priced engines and PLENTY of rolling stock and coaches, sets too.
Sadly, no - I tried it, but the distance between two of the 3 rails is just a little bit too narrow. Even with a narrower center rail, it wouldn't work, because the width of O gauge track is slightly less than twice that of HO gauge.
I noticed how the other mth engine was the tather Perkins so can u build the Red Dead Redemption 2 4-6-0 and I know some one already did this in n scale but it would be nice to see it in o scale. U can paint it in any paint scheme it is in ( central union pacific union southern and eastern and the lanacanche and Midland) u don't have to do it I'm perfectly fine with this engine in it's lone pine railroad paint scheme.
This is exciting! I’m not that interested in O Scale, but I’m still looking forward to seeing more of this layout!! You mentioned that there is no foam because of scenery, does that mean this layout won’t have scenery and will be more like a traditional shelf layout?
It will have scenery, but no features below track level like the harbor on the W&SC. There will be some hills and cuttings, and probably trees here and there.
The Ramsey empire expands across gauges and scales!
Very nice! The broader curves and scale length cars look great. Excellent progress - please keep updating!
This layout looks great so far! Can’t wait to see more progress on it!
The man returns!!!! Cool tunes, cool trains and a small camera fault makes for a great time!
Just Subscribed, I Like The Way You Attached The Track On The Layout, Its Neat.
I really like those consists, those trains look great running around together
Once again, welcome to the world of O Gauge! O is a great scale to be involved in, so I can't wait to see where you go with this layout!
A great start! Looking forward to more.
“HONEY! Come here! Mike Ramsey uploaded!
I have built 16 layouts
You have done a great job
Great to see you back Michael. Its been too long. Layout looks awesome. Cant wait to watch it develop with scenery etc.👍
Looking great. Can’t wait to see how it turns out. I’m beginning a small HO layout and having a great time!

I also realized that diesel switcher You have Sounds like the menards diesel horns and sounds
@@chasesrailwaylinesrr6447 It does - I wonder if Menards got their sound files from old Lionchief engines like this one?
Very nice! Can’t wait to see more O gauge content!
The Layout is coming along great

Beautiful layout Michael. I enjoyed the video and subscribed 👍

Is it such a coincidence that the layout is called Lone Pine, but so is the mall that Marty returns to at the end of Back to the Future II?
It is not a coincidence. :)

I look foward for what’s in store, question do you plan on adding an on30 layout within this I know the space wouldn’t work but just wondering.

Can you share what type of hinges you used on the swing up section?
I used these offset door hinges from Amazon. They shift the pivot point so that the gate can lift up and not snag the ends of the track as it pivots. www.amazon.com/dp/B0C4F91QQJ?th=1
what do you think about Menards model train stuff?
I haven't tried it personally, but it looks like a good low-budget way to get started in O gauge. I especially appreciate that they're continuing to manufacture traditional tubular track. I've thought about doing a project series where I buy one of their F-units and seeing how much I can upgrade it to look and perform like a more expensive model.
Guess who's back, back again!
Will you be getting O gauge trains from the prewar and postwar eras
I might get a postwar 4-4-0 General at some point just for fun. Wish I could afford a 700E Hudson but I don't see that happening.
Bravo
what music was the intro? its nice!
It's from the TH-cam Audio Library. The track is called "Doc and Wyatt" by Everet Almond.
I think the n scale stuff is next
Like the lone pines mall from bttf?
I wondered if anyone would catch that! I thought Twin Pines might be too obvious, but I wanted to stick with the tree theme from the Red Oak.
Nah it’s perfect and nice touch. So how big’s the roster?
@@oddjob1795 Right now, all I have is what's shown in this video. I've got my eye on a few more items though, once I save up some money. Can u run a ho scale engine on the o scale 3 rail track
Sadly, no - I tried it, but the distance between two of the 3 rails is just a little bit too narrow. Even with a narrower center rail, it wouldn't work, because the width of O gauge track is slightly less than twice that of HO gauge.
Oh but it would have been cool for an April fools video where number 13 hauls the red oak cannonball on the o scale track
@@trainboy7812 I wish I could do that lol. It would just fall off the track as soon as it reached a curve.
Lone Pine as opposed to Twin Pine?
Let's just say someone went back in time and accidentally knocked down one of the pines...
Is this layout dcc or dc
Right now it's running on analog AC power, as is the norm for 3-rail O gauge. Eventually I plan to add DCC capability.
Ok

The plan for the MTH 4-6-0 is to become a custom Lone Pine engine, but I'll be taking some inspiration from the Thatcher Perkins for sure.
Oh ok
I'm gonna just pretend that in this universe the W&SC rail road does not exist due to lore stuff
They could both exist at the same time, just on opposite sides of the continent.
Oh so I guess we're pretending this railroad in broad gauge is in ca while the W&SC is in Massachusetts in standard gauge
YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAY AFTER 2 MONTHS
