Rivarossi Docksider: A Plucky Survivor
มุมมอง 4.7K8 หลายเดือนก่อน
One of the most underappreciated vintage HO steamers is a personal favorite of mine. Note that this review only applies to this specific Rivarossi model - not the saddle-tank version, not Life-Like and Tyco's crappy imitations, and not even Rivarossi's own similar but smaller 0-4-0 model. The good ones can be identified by their fully operational Walschaerts valve gear.

By popular demand, here's my review of the new-tooling Bachmann old-time 4-4-0. I was hesitant to get one of these because of the high price, but I was quite pleasantly surprised by it, and I think it's well worthy of being Westport & Shelter Cove engine #1.

ATTENTION! Since filming this, I've discovered that the superglue trick is actually a pretty bad idea. The glue can easily run inside the plug and completely jam it, and once that happens, it's impossible to get it out. A better option would be a very thick glue of some kind that will stay where you put it. If you do use superglue, make sure it's the gel stuff that doesn't run. This has been re...

My TRX-4 Sport turned into a Bronco, with the body lowered and smaller tires for a more scale appearance, in action at Saxe Point Park. This TRX-4 has gone through a quick succession of bodies, including the stock Sport body and a Jeep Cherokee, but this one is by far my favorite. EDIT: I later discovered that plugging the 8-pin decoder plug the other way around would have solved both the direction and lighting problems, and saved me a lot of programming. Flipping the plug around reverses the polarity to both the track and the motor, and swaps the front and rear lights. Oh well - at least now I know that for next time. @@988preolenna I briefly experimented with it, but TRS's method of turning the disc on and off to simulate chuffs didn't work as well in G scale because the total volume of steam wasn't as much. I do have a few other ideas to try eventually.

Of course, what I really wanted was the Franklin Mint Ps-4 model, but you know how elusive that thing can be! This wasn't quite it but it was close and I enjoyed it for what it was. I purposely watched this video to note something from your 2-8-0 conversion to 2-6-2 video: My prototypes are all in my head. As long as it looks right it's prototypical for my railroad. And many scoff at it because of the fact that one engine I have spec'ed out is essentially an ACL-64 locomotive with worse teething trouble than it did set in the 1930's (technologically), the response to the British Mallard, and local (to me as it was built locally) GS-4, and other contemporary steam engines is a 4-8-6 that looks alot like a T1, diesels are few & far between, but those that exist look like a mix between a GP9, GP30, and a DB class 261, with the strongest of freight engines being a 2-8-8-4 Yellowstone, and the average steam engine type being a 2-8-2, or 2-10-0....and if y'all that was crazy, y'all should see the navy. Needless to say I don't care for the "prototype" It made the hobby insufferable, and so I choose to NOT rivet count anymore and have my own locomotives(which is actually how my fictional nation of Tarvala came to be...i wanted a 4-6-0 that was not spec'ed by any makers of the type at all, and now I have the spec's all I need is a sacrifice preferably in HO, 'cuz while I do run N scale, that scale is not to be modified, or weathered (unless from factory), to small, and to young (3rd week of October is when it turns a year old)...also welcome to the east coast. Don't come to Lima, Ohio expecting to see the ol' locomotive works, it's just a gravel lot now, and as such, is a disappointment.

    • @michaelramsey81
      @michaelramsey81 23 วันที่ผ่านมา
