Design and Features:
The CB Hornet is a very fresh and appealing design in this segment. The bike sports a chiseled fuel tank, lean side panels, multi-spoke alloy wheels and petal disc brakes. It looks edgy from all angles especially with that meaty rear tyre and that X-Shaped LED tail lamp. The instrument console is a full digital readout and looks most aesthetic of all here. The only gripe being the quality of the switchgear and the lack of an engine kill switch.
The Suzuki Gixxer looks very stylish too. The bike has a more fluidic design to it with a muscular fuel tank. Overall fit and finish on the bike is great and the switches feel very tactile to operate. The instrument console also has a gear shift indicator which we feel is quite a handy thing to have as it only accentuates your riding experience.
The refreshed Yamaha though a newer model feels pretty dated in comparison. It continues to display good presence with its petite headlamp and a large fuel tank. The quality of the switchgear is nice too. The digital console is very basic though.
To sum it up, we would say design wise they are all pretty similar and are equipped with digital instrument consoles but if you take a closer look at the features that each one offers - the Gixxer is the clear winner here.
Engine and performance:
The 162 cc motor on the Hornet performs its duties flawlessly. The refinement levels are high across the rev range. When shifting through the cogs, the throttle response feels smooth and acceleration is seamless. The Hornet is also the most powerful amongst the three, churning about 15.6 bhp and 14.7 nm of torque.
The Suzuki Gixxer’s 155 cc engine when thrummed to life settles into a smooth idle. The gear shifts are slick and precise on the move. It makes only 1bhp less than the Hornet but given its fantastic low and midrange, makes city commuting and overtaking a breeze. The acceleration is very linear and the engine displays no signs of stress even with the throttle pinned. The Honda in comparison needs to be worked upon to extract all that power.
The Yamaha’s engine is nice on its own but pales in performance when compared with the other two. One would feel the engine stressed with the throttle opened up during prolonged highway runs.
To say then, the Hornet shines on the highway with its peak power while the Suzuki is great in the city. The Yamaha does its job well as a premium commuter.
The Suzuki though feels vibe and stress free across the power band and that makes it the winner again.
Ride, Handling and Braking:
The Hornet comes with a stiffer set up that is suited for excellent highway manners but within the city it feels a tad uncomfortable despite it wider rear tyre. The feedback from the suspension set up could have been a little better. It handles like a dream and is extremely forgiving. There is ample feedback from the suspension up front and taking corners at higher speeds is confidence inspiring. In the city too, the ride is pliant and comfortable. Yamaha was always been known to be a good handler and the FZ-S never disappointed. All bikes here are equipped with telescopic front suspension with a mono shock rear.
Honda has equipped the Hornet with disc brakes on both wheels aided with its patented Combi-brake system (CBS). They offer terrific bite and superior stopping power. The brakes offered good feedback and felt progressive at high and low speeds. The Honda is the only here to offer disc brakes on both wheels. The Gixxer and the FZ on the other hand get a drum at the rear with a disc up front.
To sum it up, the Gixxer lets you push the bike harder into corners with its superior handling that can be harnessed even in everyday riding. The Honda outshines in the braking department with its rear disc and CBS braking system.
Verdict:
So as far as the looks go, all three motorcycles look sporty and muscular.
The Gixxer wins over the Hornet as far as features, performance and handling go. The Hornet fights back with better braking performance and not to mention Honda’s wide spread after sales network. Yamaha has everything going for it but does not hold its appeal in terms of freshness of design and the performance offered by the other two.
If you look at the price, the Gixxer comes for Rs.83,000 while the Hornet 160R with CBS comes with a premium price tag of Rs. 89,000. Yamaha falls in between at Rs. 85,451. All prices being ex-showroom Mumbai.
The Gixxer then is the one we would vote for as the winner here.

I've been riding Yamaha since my teenage. First Rx100 then FZ. If I'd add a little into this, Yamaha's bike is compact and does not vibrate even at speeds around 130. I've been driving Yamaha FZ for 6 years now. I have added a little to my liking, like analog meter, wider tyres and painted the bike entirely black. I have tested the other two bikes but Honda feels like I'm driving a splendor. No doubt its got speed but the way my arms have to bend to be comfortable is not cool. Gixer is a tough opponent but Yamaha's durability is way more than Suzuki. If anyone has really driven FZ, they know that the bike is ideal for a tall person. The way my weight is slightly transferred to my arms so that I ride without regularly adjusting my back.

Mani Kandan Go for it no problem. But the way Honda will make you wait you will cry. I mean I ordered in September and they told me to wait till 3 months. I went after 3 months they said me the colour (Black) is not available you need to wait 2 months more. So we can give you orange one if you need right now and it is worst colour.

yes the vibration levels have been reduced in RTR 200 but it starts a little at speeds of 70-90 kmph

I would suggest u to go with the FZ-FI bcoz the engine is more refined.Everyone says it's less in power,yeah it's true but it does not lack in performance like acceleration bcoz of it's lighter weight of just 132kgs and a new 41 tooth rear sprocket and it has a strong mid range which u will enjoy within the city,cornering and handling are best in class and at the same time u will get a comfortable ride bcoz the suspension is neither too hard nor soft it just lies between both and it has the most spacious pillion seat and u will get an excellent mileage of 53-58kmpl within the city,as u said u will be riding avg of 60km daily.There is no issue with the FZ-FI, u will only have to change the engine oil periodically and lubricate bike's chain for very month or two and the service cost is lesser than the other premium 150cc bikes and the FZ-FI has no vibration even when u are speeding above 110kmph and vibration starts when u rev the engine to max RPM.........

Pulsar is easy to maintain and Gixxer is new in the line up compared to Pulsar. Gixxer is pretty comfortable to ride. Both bikes generate almost same amount of power. If you wish to buy a bike which is easy to maintain and is average to ride, go for Pulsar and if you don't care about maintenance but want a bike which delights you with every ride, go for Gixxer.

hornet has the same engine of Unicorn 160 but is tuned for additional 1 BHP.....It's a good bike but the engine is not soo refined as the FZ-FI or Gixxer(if u listen to the beat of the engine) and vibration starts quick when u increase speed(70-90kmph)....ans also it suits best for taller riders

FZ-FI is the best bcoz it has no issues with engine or servicing it,the only cost u will be doing is for changing engine oil periodically and lubricating the chain for every month or two and it gives a average mileage of 55kmpl depending on your riding style, while the gixxer had some issues with the carburator

For styles, engine, look, etc FZ is better. But problem is about mileage and CBS in FZ. You will not find all qualities in one bike.

Hi guys I am having a heck lot of confusion between gixxer hornet and fz it is my first bike for college so plz suggest which is the best I have a daily commuting need of 60+ km and eventual long rides plz suggest among the three also I don't want the bike to have lot of troubles and damages often and it is my first bike so I least expect it to work fine for atleast 3 to 4 years thanks
After riding both motorcycles back to back, we did find that the Suzuki Gixxer’s engine was more refined than the Hornets. In the case of the Hornet, after about 4,500rpm the engine starts feeling rough and the vibrations kick in while the Gixxer’s engine feels refined all through the rev range. The Gixxer also has more bottom end grunt than the Hornet and its exhaust note is better too. Talking about FZ, that again is a very nice bike but lacks certain essential features like power but it is a very comfortable bike to ride. I would suggest you to ride them all back to back in order to buy the best one out of them.

damn bro I had Gixxer after riding 2000 kms it's gears are too hard and engine also very hard, my Frd has CB Hornet and he is completed 3400 kms but it is still smooth and easy gear shifting with high speed, guys if you want to buy bike instead of Gixxer buy CB Hornet, Bcz i know the problems of Gixxer it's a fucking bike it's speciality only in looking and corner riding, I vote for CB Hornet.

properly clean it with a cleaner and lube it with chain spray used for 'O' ring type......u have to do this periodically in terms of days or kilometer u ride.....If there is a rain fall clean n lube immediately for a smooth n long life of chain

Jokes apart, I guess you meant 1L. And within that price range, Gixxer is the best. I have it. you can feel the power in your hand once you sit on it. Riding quality, Balance, Power o/p. Its a complete package. Clearly it is better than FZ version2. I haven't ridden Hornet, so can't tell.

+vickram aditya Nope. Not even a single problem yet. I've took my bike from Kerala to Bangalore in a 500km ride too. Last month. Only issue would be the low ground clearance. That's not an issue with single ride though.
