MORE EQUIPMENT! I actually think my equip count could be 1-3 higher than it is, but I don't really want to subtract removal. Will need to figure that out.
@@CommanderReplay Yeah, just keep experimenting. I'm really hyped for this commander as well and I think it can be a fun and powerful commander in different levels of play (probably not cEDH). The removal count maybe also depends on the meta but it's a matter of time to find the sweet spot for it
@@Narabedla4 I actually think that could be its weak point and that's why teferi's protection and boros charm are important, but with the right build I'm guessing that only boardwipes can really set it way back in the game since it has card draw. Besides that, he can only deal with interaction with more interaction of it's own and that's why I think PJ's version could be one of the strongest, but it of course it can still need more refining.
I would say because of the sunforger package you should def be running pyroblast or red elemental blast, can blow up blue commanders for 1 mana and counter cych rifts in critical moments.
Yeah it is. It makes bad equipments good. In my aurelia decks even with all the cheat equip costs cards I was always really on the fence about argentum armor....so many times it would just get stuck in my hand. Not in this deck, its MVP.
@@CommanderReplay Phasing is such a beautiful intuitive mechanic, i am so happy they brought it back with teferis protection, but never reprinted it afterwards, just to make sure, that it isn't too common...... /s
Yes, I think because Phasing basically takes a screen shot of your board and returns it to the exact state it was in. And this is why we will not see it for another 20 years.
A friend of mine is building a pretty similar list. His particular list runs Balan, Wandering Knight for extra redundancy, and runs both Red elemental Blast and Pyroblast in his Sunforger package, but our meta does have a lot of blue (and U/G and U/B) players so he can stop them in their tracks
Yeah I’ll definitely need to be including those in my paper group. Now that I have handle on the overall power, I’m gonna see how it holds up in a fast combo meta.
@@CommanderReplay Fast combo you say? Well, you can definitely hold your own against creature based combo decks (like selvala and Momir Vig) if you can remove key creatures fast enough, as this will slow them down quite a bit...But you might need more specific hate if you happen to face a lot of Ad Nausean/ Dramatic Scepter and Flash Hulk combos...Mardu isn't exactly the best colors to interact defensively with the stack =/ I would probably go with a coulpe of mass land destruction spells once I'm set up with Gwyn...If we are winning we might as well pull the rug out of everybody's feet to ensure they can't catch up
Thats what I am thinking actually, armageddon, winter orb, razias purification, world slayer and friends. More to come on that. Actually red elemental blast, and pyroblast interact with 75% of the things you need to interact with. Im working on a list for a $75 budget cedh thing, ill share once its posted.
Ive seen both games with Gwyn and i am loving it. Looks fun, not a fan of decks without creatures like that, depending on just the commander can backfire i dunno but still looks fun.
Do you think syr Gwyn is now the best voltron/equipment commander ? I'm running Aurelia equipment and i love her raw double combat hasty power , but now with the printing of this beast i'm not sure if i would continue using aurelia or build gwyn
Tough question. As you mention, Aurelia has a ton of raw power, but so does Syr Gwyn. Cheating those equip costs is just crazy good. It has the ability to make bad equipments good. With Aurelia I always had the question of whether to run argentum armor or not, because if you don't have a free equip its just so slow and hard to cast, and would often get stuck in my hand. In Syr Gwyn, argentum for 6 mana is ridiculous, someone else is probably taking near lethal damage, and another player is getting their stuff blown up. I had patreons say they were just going to scoop if I landed sun forger with Syr Gwyn because how do you come back from that? Now, Aurelia with flying and haste makes her awesome against board wipes and removal, because you recast and get back in there for a ton of damage where syr gywn requires haste cards for that to work. I guess maybe the better way to think about it, Syr Gwyn is probably a bit more linear in the sense of, play a few equipments come out and 1 shot someone, where Aurelia does better as removal starts flying as you can keep recasting her with haste, also the sword of the animist interaction. For me personally, I'm gonna switch my paper equipment deck (currently feather, previously aurelia) over to Syr Gwyn for a while. I love Aurelia, but if you've got the budget or card access I think its worth switching over for a while just to keep things fresh. Because Syr Gywn has the ability to make bad equipments good, you get to use things like Kaldra and Assault suit that are generally not playable in Aurelia so I think its worth it just for that alone. @@CommanderReplay thank you so much for the really detailed answer, i think i will follow your advice and start playtesting gwyn equipment for a while and then decide which one i will keep in paper. I love your vids and i hope to see more equipment in the future ..... and obviously MORE BOROS...
really not a fan of thornbite staff in this. it's a piece of a janky removal combo that does nothing otherwise. and if you assemble it, you "only" wipe the board. tragic arrogance could do similar and isn't useless 95% of the time
I agree in my comments i said there are some things i dont like in the deck and that equipment is one. I feel its just taking the space of something that can be better but i dunno.
PJ: How many equipments do you want?
Syr Gwyn: Yes.

this is one of my all time favorite videos on this channel, and i’ve been watching for a long time. very fun build!

Love it!
Assault suit is my new favorite card.
Commander Replay look at it like an extra combat spell and it’s no mystery why you love it.
Stay Calm and Syr Gwyn on! Drawing extra cards while also now having far more mana to cast those cards with equip costs now at zero is kinda good.
Yeah it is. It makes bad equipments good. In my aurelia decks even with all the cheat equip costs cards I was always really on the fence about argentum armor....so many times it would just get stuck in my hand. Not in this deck, its MVP.
FYI permanents stay attached when they phase back in
I actually didn’t know about that, I only thought that Aura cards stay attached, that’s pretty good then.
Yeah this one confused me a bit, since the permanent they were attached to did not phase out. Apparently it doesn't care about that.

i would try to add a open the vaults, to work around vandal blast type effects, to get the equips back in case they get blown.
Yeah definitely need to get some type of recursion. Cant decide between Open the vaults, scrap mastery, and sevinnes reclamation.
