How much modification did it take to add that Honcho cage?
Not very much. Some trimming of cage plastic and a few zip ties.
Looks great, excellent running footage too. Been waiting a month for one of these here in the UK, its due to arrive on the 28th, that's this weekend taken care of!

Scx10.2 is amazing!!!! Rtr out of the box is incredible!! This guy is absolutely correct. My only complaint is the shocks need to be better. Otherwise this truck is incredible. I'm a real mechanic and absolutely love how scale this thing really is! The axles are sick!!!

This popped up in my feed and I remember how influential it was for me at the time, so I re watched it. Man, have your videos ever come a long way, Matt! This was awesome but it feels extremely raw compared to current content.
Holy scale, batman! That is wicked! When I manage to snatch one up, I'm using the speed jeep theme and shamelessly sticking a honcho cage in the back w/ a spare. Again, amazing work!

Been out of the hobby for a while but seeing this video and the new SCX 10 II, I may have to jump back in. I've got a fully built and customized dune runner EXO Terra that's been sitting in the garage collecting dust for the last two years because I rarely am at the beach to drive it. Would get much more use out of getting another crawler again.

Thanks for watching! Not sure how droop relates to this model, and I'm not familiar with Hot Racing's parts. For droop, usually all I do is use shocks that can use an internal spring like the Traxxas Big Bore.

Love the review, just wanted to say when you talk about the links being to short on the rear. I have this kit and everything was correct, I did nearly mix up a front panard/steering link with the rear link. try swaping the links you'll get it.

I know this is a 2 year old thread but you did an amazing job, paintwork is top notch. How did you keep the back of the body rigid after you cut it out?
Thanks very much. I used some small tabs of Velcro to hold the sides in place. Never really had much issue with flexing.

Im coming off of a Slash 2wd Brushed truck, and I plan on just getting a F-Traxxas to M-Deans connector for my 7-C NiMh 5000Mah battery. I also do understand this truck is brushed, and I do not at ALL plan on using it to go fast, but to go dig around in the woods around my house (Which after learning the hard way my Traxxas couldn't even DREAM to do). How long will a 7c 5000mah NiMh battery last in a truck like this? Thanks for the great review, I really got my heart set!
My Scx10II is Brushless. Always was. But I didn't go that route for speed, I went that route for power. In a brushed truck, 5000mAh should get you at least 45 minutes. Upgrade to LiPo for longer run times!

awesome vid man because of ESP and you i had to get one for my daughter swhe loves to trail an we live but the rio grande river so we get to have some time crawling to i was able to get a rtr version is the trans on the kit worth buying for her or does the rtr seem fine for heavy trailing an light crawl
Thanks for watching. RTR is a very reasonable offering and probably a bit less complex vs. the kit version.

No full parts list (to date) not found on thread either.. was just looking to find out where that "bumper mounted yellow light bar" was found, or was it custom built. Thinking its not custom because its not matching axials yellow lenses (if thats what that is) on the big roof bar. Would really like to purchase. It's Axial's light bar kit, part #AX31152 and all I did was apply some clear yellow headlight film on it. I also opted to light it with an LED strip light kit wired direct to 3S.
How fast is it stock and is it a 2 stage t or 1 stage? And if so. Is it easily upgradeable to 2 stage trans
How is it adding lights and a winch set up also?
Im looking for something to crawl and bash with when i would like.
There is a 2-speed available and easy to install. As for how fast, I have no idea, and don't really consider that with my scale trucks. Lights and winches are super easy to add if you have some wiring experience. I don't like the term "bash" as I don't like to break things.
I see guys running quite a few lights on their rigs. What are you using to control all the lights?

Yep, save for the axle housings, everything is stock.
I know we are here 6 years later but I was looking at getting the current model SCX 10 II Jeep Cherokee. Just wanted to see if your opinion still stands or what you would recommend? I’m moving up from a used wraith spawn that I bought a few months ago, I’m feeling like I’m starting to out drive the capabilities of the truck.
Sadly, that kit is no longer available, but I'd look at the newest kit of the Deadbolt.

It was pretty straightforward. I cut out one cross bar and ziptied it to the frame in three places. Easy and stable, but definitely quick to remove if necessary.
Question does your rig shake the front end while turning ? Just picked up mine and I see that my front end shakes while turning.
Sounds like you've set the endpoints beyond what the universals can handle. This is normal if you're going too far, as you've reached the limit of physics. Reduce turning radius by adjusting your endpoints on your radio to reduce chatter. Also, because it's a locked diff, the outer wheel is trying to spin at a faster rate to compensate for the inner wheels' smaller turning radius. If the diff was open, this wouldn't be an issue. Not a downside of the truck whatsoever.
@@scalebuildersguild Good answer. My RBK built to spec with good tires shakes like hell cornering tight on the rec room carpet (makes me cringe). On ice and snow, loose dirt, beautifully smooth.

So I am younger and don't have a job yet I'm looking for this as my first crawler. I have built many kits. I am buying everything myself. So are the Curry Axles a must have or is it just a necessity? I am asking because budget wise it's a little expensive. So any advice for crawlers/fun car would be great as well.
This would be a great first kit, however, if you've never done any type of crawling before, I'd recommend going with the RTR and building it up as things get worn out or broken.
+Scale Builder's Guild additionally, nothing is a necessity. The stock axles are fantastic.

This is the kit version, there is an RTR version but there are a few differences. Winch (that's how it's spelled) and lights are not stock.

What is the name of the blue paint? Looks great!
Tamiya PS3 = Light Blue, PS12 = Silver, PS23 = Gunmetal and PS19 = Camel Yellow.

It's not difficult. Paint and detail a Bomber interior and secure to truck.
Has axial peaked in performance design? Will we ever see an axial scx10 iii kit?
Why would you think that? I'm sure there's plenty more to come from Axial in the future.

Did you put a honcho cage in a xj. Or a xj body on a honcho. Also how did you do it.
You made the same comment on every video that features this truck! A few trims of the cage to fit around the trans, and zip ties as this was temporary!

The majority of what you're seeing is actually paint! Only the small logos are stickers, I spent a lot of time masking the body with liquid mask and trimmed all the logos by hand, much like Hemistorm does.

Yes, but also not totally necessary, as you may have a place that you prefer to deal with, perhaps even a hobby shop local to you.

Amazing! I saw this one on the Jeepspeed.com website and instantly knew it was the paintjob to replicate! Not too complicated to make, just a lot of time cutting the graphics!

If everyone got a free set of Currie axles with their scx10-2 I would suspect everyone would be as satisfied with the truck. I think the stock ar44 axles are about the same quality as the injora copies. And the shocks are the worst at leaking oil I've ever seen.
The stock axles are more than acceptable. I agree with you on the shocks though!

You gush about how great the design is "right out of the box" and in the next breath how quickly you "spent" a whopping 300 bucks US to get rid of the axles, leaving us to assume they're crap. That said, I enjoy your videos and find them generally helpful and informative.
I didn't spend anything on the axles. They were prototypes that I got from VP to test prior to their release. Additionally, all the internals are from the kit, so all that changed was the housings. If you don't upgrade, no problem. There's nothing wrong with the stock axles, and in fact, I ran them on my DragBolt project and Josh and I both got them up over 55mph.
I put "spent" in quotes, but should have been clearer. My beef is with posters who, having done zero research, have created an urban myth that the one-piece axles are a no-brainer throw-away. To me they're a design improvement folks on a budget can happily leave be...as you implied. Now, about those shocks. Ha. Cheers and thanks for the reply.
