Couple quick suggestions. If they don't work for you, you can always throw 'em in the melt pile:
    1. Deeper is better - perhaps a taller, narrower pan.
    2. Leave burner on low when cooling. It cools too fast otherwise.
    3. Once you have a hold of the crystal base, pull it out quickly and give it a little shake to dislodge the liquid metal still clinging on to avoid the little points and flow that smooths the details in the crystals.

“Everybody that doesn’t have one, when they see it, they want one…” that’s such a perfect way to describe bismuth. They’re amazing! Man I love watchin you and Jim hang out. I’m tellin y’a dude. If Someone could figure out teleportation, I’d be there! Right there gettin hyped on pulling these guys out and just chillin bein fully grown kids!

Awesome demonstration video! Those are beautiful crystals. Since bismuth is a metal I wouldn't put in in the microwave though. It is so cool how they grow from the bottom, really fascinating! Thanks for sharing Dave and Jim!✌️🤠

    Awesome, you guys rock!
To get the crystals growing from the bottom of the pot Just slightly reheat and they’ll melt off the bottom and float to the top, ready to be fished out.
    Love your content!

Awesome thanks for the video. As soon as y'all mentioned pulling bismuth in a previous video, I'd wondered about doing it as a demonstration for the club or show. Will be taking notes on this one!

Blistex lip ointment. Outstanding burn remedy after cooling the injury. Worked great when I managed to dip bits of my thumb and two fingers into 500*F solder, as well as more ordinary burns. Slather it on and lightly cover, repeat as needed.

I’ve been seeing those at rock shows pretty cool to see the process.
Cold steel really helps draw the heat out of a burn!!!

Interesting video. I remember making some with my little nephew in Mexico. we pour the melted metal on to different agates and it created some cool textures. yeah some of the agates popped because of the heat but the effects were all worth it.

The metal gallium is fun to play with. It we'll melt in your hands it's so odd. Then it we'll go back to it's original form.

I just got my beautiful piece today. I'm sorry you burned yourself. I hope that part of your foot doesn't fall off!! I LOVE this bismuth and will keep it next to my bed until I die. Think of me on the Solstice, around 3pm Mountain Time. I love you, David, and am so glad we connected in this incarnation. Many blessings sent to you. Stay clean, if you can. Pot, as I've recently discovered, makes me schizophrenic and I am not anybody you'd recognize as Anne, when I've had to take it, to help with the pain. Thank you, David.

This is almost as much fun as burning hot dogs... Yummy 😋.
But, it gives you so many beautiful things to use for art, jewelry, and wall hangings. Unfortunately, I live in an apartment and can't do things like this.
How much does it cost to get one of these, lots of purple?

Like cymatics you mean. Might could work... Now we know bismuth crystals form orthog.nally (cube-like), whereas cymatic patterns form in curving concentric patterns. Can't even imagine what the combined geometry would display.!!! Goosebumps!

  • @krookiemonster2673

I've never tried pulling like this.. I always just melted and then Waited a random amount of time and poured the molten into another pot and broke the crystal off or cut them.. works, but this looks way easier and better turn out.

@@whatdoiknow1803 I just learned last night that there is a thing as bismuth shotgun shells for bird hunting. Many birds for sport are water fowl. If bismuth was toxic in waterways I don’t think it would be approved.
