Costco has what looks like a great budget starter PC on their website for $500.
This the full name of the product im talking about.
    ASUS ROG Gaming Desktop - AMD Ryzen 5 3600X P - GeForce GTX 1660Ti - Windows 10.
I'm more interested in the specs of the motherboard because if its a B550 it's totally worth it in terms of upgradability

hey pcbros, thank you for teaching me so much abt pcs! im almost 1 year in and have had 3 different pcs. i have just managed to build myself a pc from facebook marketplace for 410 dollar. bought an used pc for 300 dollar with pretty new components in it, a nice noctua case, ryzen 5 3600, 16gb 3600mhz ram, B550-plus motherboard, 750w psu, 500 gb samsung 860 evo sata ssd and a gtx 970. i sold the 970 for 90 dollar and bought a rtx 2060 super used for 200 dollar.

I watched a few "we bought a pre-built for cheap" videos and for some reason everybody starts to disassemble the PC itself. I can't understand why not test the system as it is arrived and after the tests are done disassemble it.
Beside the urge to get system in pieces, it is a great video, great vibes. :-)
Also that keyboards just awful, it is so effing loud... I can't stand it.

It's been a long long time, but I had one arrive with instructions to open and check components before powering on. This was well before the interwebs were full of videos of delivery workers casually tossing expensive items about.

The reason the graphics card was so hot is because 6th gen OptiPlex's usually have an intake fan to cool down the graphics cards. Though it looks like they got rid of it to make room for the rgb.

Hi Toasty bros. I’ve been following your content for a while now and you guys have inspired me to start saving up for a pc. Money in my family has been hard recently and it’s been hard to save money for the past few months. It’s always been a dream on mine to be able to play video games on device other than a Android. As of now I have saved up $115. I quit my football team to have more hours to work and earn money for my family and save extra money to go to my pc. I wasn’t sure if I felt comfortable to share this with anyone but I finally built up the courage to comment this. As I said before thanks for inspiring me and I hope y’all have a blessed day

Good luck with your PC search! Honestly, if you're keen and know what you're looking for, you can possibly get a PC build going for that price, and upgrade it as you go!
My most recent pickup (like last week) for example was for $40, and came with an 1155 motherboard, an i5-3450, 1x8GB DDR3, and a Radeon HD 7770. I threw it into a case that I got for free and cleaned up (Antec Nine Hundred) and added some drives, had myself a little budget gaming PC. I ended up picking up a ~$50USD RX 460 off of eBay for a little more performance.
There's definitely deals out there, so good luck with your search!

I'd buy a laptop that you can take with you if I was a struggling college student in the 1st place. There are MANY laptops out there for just a few hundred $ more that will play WAY better than this setup with higher frame-rates and more modern hardware and 1080P+. I've seen laptops in the $750 range that will run circles around this ancient hardware. Why spend $500 to find out it's a turd and then turn around and spend MORE money for something that actually preforms? Skip the $500 and go right for the $750+ range to begin with and save yourself the CASH.

This is NOT 'decent" at ANY price in 2022! It's a under-preforming stressed out POS! The GPU is ready to melt-down over the heat issues at LOW settings! Just on the verge of thermal shutdown is NOT 'decent' in any stretch of the imagination!

I get what your saying and am NOT dumping on the Toasty Bros. They reviewed this hardware for "gaming" and even they stated how under preforming it was! Yeah a full set-up with an inferior monitor, VERY cheap keyboard and mouse and OUTDATED hardware. I don't remember them ever testing the headset either (Please correct me if I'm wrong here). They stated it was a 'playable' E-sports experience at mostly LOW settings and was lagging as they mentioned. I feel even a child would VERY quickly become disappointed with this system once said child saw what someone else's computer can do at 1080P or higher with the speed and visual quality this setup simply cannot EVER provide! As I mentioned for a few hundred more $ you can get something better that WILL actually preform. In my view, WHY buy something at ANY price and find out it is an OUTDATED under preforming setup that you'll just replace in 6months or less? Where did you 'save" any money here going the CHEAP route?

Your right the Toasty Bros do videos to help you or recommend something. They did not really speak highly of this setup as I did not either. For just a few hundred more you could get something better. This system would QUICKLY become a disappointment even for a child or young college student. If you were NEVER going to game it would stream and do MS Office type work all day. But their review was 'gaming' and even they stated several times the GPU was on the verge of puking it's own guts out!
