Reversing Hot ("Live" on your diagram) and Neutral shouldn't damage the power supply. The outlets in the old house I live in were all wired 'backwards' when we moved in, and PCs plugged into them ran fine. We did switch them over to the correct way and add ground eventually, though.
I'm an owner of many Dell Optiplex computers and noticing how the front panel of this PC was designed it made me wonder how air was getting inside the PC. Then when it was opened, I realized the intake fan was not even in the right place where it is supposed to be. This is an 8th Gen PC, I own 6th Gen and below, but I'm pretty sure a Fan should still be there.
@@lurch789 CPU is in the 50s, it would the opposite if the front panel was the issue, no the GPU being right on top of the power supply is the issue. Having no side panel might help don't think the front panel is the issue in any sort of way.
@@lurch789 the cpu was the i5-9500, which is a 65 watt part as well. There was an NVME drive, plus a hard drive (most hdds are about 20 watts) plus all the other stuff including an aging PSU with not a lot of airflow because of custom front panel/bad design from Dell doesn't help much either. add in graphically intensive games with a bunch of rgb stuff something like was bound to happen eventually. I'm just glad it did not catch fire and nobody was hurt.
All issues aside, RX 6400 is a practical limit for OptiPlex builds due to PSU constraints. If you want to use Chinese "RX 580" , you would need to buy new PSU and motherboard adapter. Technically 1050Ti or 1650 should work, but sometimes they do not and they are somewhat more expensive. Either way, this setup would run games from PS4 era without much trouble.

It's not just AMD cards it's pretty much all of them and it's the game causing the studder not the hardware. GN covered this a few days ago. Nvidia cars have the longest frame freezes.
This is super weird... One thing you could've tried is to find another sacrificial PC and try the cable on it to see if the PC gets fried as well. What is weird is how the PC behaves but the again if the PSU is even slightly damaged it can send a lot more current than it should down the wire burning the connector. Seeing though that the PC is modified there might be some damaged wire that is burning.

For halo there is a known issue with the default virtual memory settings that causes Halo to load super slow. It's a 5 min fix, has nothing to do with hardware in most cases.

They also sell more PCs than they show in the videos, the ones they film are just those they think are going to pull in the most views (and therefore the most ad money).
I bought a similar setup from Amazon. Ironically, I bought it with no intention of gaming. I need a home desktop for when I work from home and to do some video editing and photoshop. Works great for that.
Price I see is $720 dollars. I can built a pretty damn decent system for less than that and make a profit selling it. 8th Gen i5 Dell Optiplex ($100 - $120 used), 256 GB SSD ($15 new), 1 tb hard drive (likely recycled), RX 6400 low profile ($150 new), extra stick of DDR4 8 GB ($12 used although could be pulled from dead computers), 24 inch monitor (Maybe $90), "e-waste" mouse and keyboard ($20). I get a total cost of $407 and that is assuming that the computers cost that much and were not bought in giant pallets. The "Bling" is not worth ~$300. The RX 6400 is not what I would call a keeper. My 2014 gaming laptop's GTX 980M does better at DirectX 12 benchmarks.
For $720 I was able to build a R5 5600 and RX 6600 PC with 16gb of ram and 1TB SSD and I was just clicking at random. If you shop around or buy some parts second hand you might get much better deal than this office->gaming PC conversion that might or might not catch on fire. I didn't add any keyboard, audio, mouse and monitor to the price but then again you can buy better mouse and keyboard combo for 30$ and monitor you can in theory buy second hand with better quality.

Asrock B550 Wireless = $100. Team Group 1 TB M.2 = $40. Team Group 16 GB ram (2 x8) = $35. EVGA GTX 1070 (used) = $100 EVGA 600 watt gold PSU = $75 Total cost $440 before tax. $490 adding $50 for a case. Have $250 for a keyboard, mouse, and monitor before matching the $720 cost of the repurposed business machine. A computer builder might charge you $50 to $100 to build it? Even at $100 labor, still have $150 for keyboard, mouse, and monitor.

Would this p.c. be good enough to play retro emulators? I've been a lifetime Sony and Nintendo customer and am interested in dipping my toe into the world of gaming P.C's. I already own a PS5 and Switch and that is what I play new games on. So would this thing be good enough to play Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Genesis, Dreamcast, Ps2, Ps3. Emulators? Would it also be powerful enough to run a quality video editor?
The only real problem I have with you guys reselling things is you guys are way over pricing them. I mean second gen i5 systems go for under $100 all day every day but you want nearly $200 for one.
Dear Lumos, it's actually not bad if it doesn't catch fire. The GPU is lying right on top of the PSU, that is probably not ideal for thermal reasons. Obviously use an SSD instead of a 14 year old mechanical drive, lol.
A whole set up for that price I can see for some people but for most I would suggest getting a ps5 or xbsx for the price n get a cheap monitor instead of this for better performance n visuals
I just built that same pc optiplex 7030 core i5 9th gen and a xfx rx 6400 and it's not a bad little pc ,my nephew love it. It dose run hot. Thank god no magic smoke so far.😅
reddragon keyboards are AMAZING for the price you cant beat a redragon IMO had mine for 3 years not a single thing wrong with it still sounds great just dont buy the non mechanical ones mines got a metal chassis was like 50 bucks

Its AC current so it does not matter whatsoever for current flow...just safety reasons

Those front panels look cool but they must turn the PC into an oven by covering up all of the front ventilation
I don't think a 65w CPU 53w GPU that normally runs at a lower wattage gets too hot. Less power than most gaming laptops.

You didn't wait for Halo to load, it was building shaders, it does it when you first play the game or update GPU drivers.
loading/building shaders either way it was significantly longer than other systems we tested
