    Charismatic and fun to watch!
    Just a tid-bit; you can take those same cuttings and place in water and they will root just another way to propagate. Also you can air layer your ivy geranium by bending one of the lower branches with a node in the middle of the branch buried 4-5”underneath the soil. Once it has good roots (around 4 weeks)cut below roots from mother plant. 😊
    I do this with various container plants but also out in my flower beds with my various hydrangeas-same methods as geraniums. Air layering is another fun way to propagate indoor/outdoor plants. Propagation just means making more plants and I see newbie’s get hung up on plant terms. Just wanted to say your best success is just playing around and having fun.

    Great instructional. Since its summer, and you had a lot of containers at your work place, can you show the process of either revitalizing your pots, or how you transition to late summer/fall plants?

    • @EdenMakers
      @EdenMakers  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, Ash, I can't "show" the process at this time, since I am recovering from back surgery. Generally, the rule of thumb is to refresh your containers with new compost material every year. It also depends on what type of plant...you may want to re-pot them also. I hope that helps answer your question. Thanks for watching :-)

    • @EdenMakers
      @EdenMakers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Twyla, If you are growing geraniums from cuttings they will take approximately 6 to 8 weeks to form roots. Then it usually takes 13 to 15 weeks to flower. Hope that answers your question and thanks for watching!

    i've had a geranium that my great uncle gave to me. he passed away november 2019.
    i've had it since 2014 i believe. maybe even longer and have been able to have it grow.
    however this week i noticed the leaves wilting like an umbrella.
    so i was worried. i had a friend come over and watch my plants for a few days.... it may be overwatering... but then i researched
    so i trimmed it. i followed this for cuttings.
    but then when i was putting a cutting in the new pot, i accidentally broke it. i'm just worried my overzealousness to make sure my geranium is happy will hurt it.
    also, how long do they live in a pot? i take it outside in the summer and bring it inside in the winter. i just hope it's a fighter and doesn't hate me
    thank you for your help. wish i could bug you in person

    • @EdenMakers
      @EdenMakers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm sorry to hear about your uncle but it sounds like he left you with great memories and a plant! Geraniums can live in pots for many years. You will just move up one size every few years or when you see the roots are getting tight. Let me know how it goes!

  • @casanagatenerife
    @casanagatenerife ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great video thankyou - one question…Why do some people say put it directly in a cup of water inside until roots grow…then plant it…Ive seen video evidence of that working

    • @EdenMakers
      @EdenMakers  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching! Water propagation is an alternative way to root geraniums. The only disadvantage is that water roots are adapted to water and may not acclimate to the soil.

  • @tifftat2008
    @tifftat2008 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Hi! Do you water the cutting every day after planting or how often? Thank you this was so helpful!

    • @EdenMakers
      @EdenMakers  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi and thanks for watching! After planting the geranium cuttings, water them thoroughly to settle the soil around the roots.
      Allow the soil to dry slightly between watering sessions. Stick your finger into the soil to check for moisture. If the top inch of soil feels dry, it's time to water again.
      Geraniums don't like to sit in soggy soil, as it can lead to root rot. Ensure proper drainage in the pots or containers where you've planted the cuttings.
      Pay attention to the condition of the plants. If they start to wilt between watering sessions, it's a sign that they need more water. However, if the leaves turn yellow or appear mushy, it might indicate overwatering.
      As a general rule, aim to water geranium cuttings when the top inch of soil feels dry, rather than on a strict daily schedule.

    • @EdenMakers
      @EdenMakers  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Teri, thanks for watching. Try pruning. Prior to bringing it indoors (usually late fall), you should cut back about a third of your spindly geraniums. Make sure you remove any unhealthy or dead stems as well. Pruning leggy geraniums also prevents them from becoming overgrown and unsightly.

      Thanks so much for your feedback. Maintain a slightly moist soil at all times but not saturated. Geraniums are very sensitive and at risk for root rot if the soil is heavy or doesn't drain well. Make sure to use well-draining soil and use your finger "dipstick" as a moisture gauge..

    • @EdenMakers
      @EdenMakers  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Natalie, Leave on heating pad for a few weeks or until you tug at cutting and it has a little resistance. That means it has rooted.
      Take outdoors after all threat of frost has passed in your area. Plant in full sun.
      Indoors, geraniums need as much light as possible to flower. Lack of light will make geraniums leafy and green but they will not have many flowers. Best of luck!

      14. Jasmine (Jasminum spp.)
      15. Bougainvillea (Bougainvillea spp.)
      These flowers can be propagated by taking stem cuttings and rooting them in a suitable growing medium. Each plant may have specific requirements for optimal rooting, so it's recommended to research and follow specific instructions for each flower variety to increase the chances of success.

    Will sand work well for drainage?

    • @EdenMakers
      @EdenMakers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Soozi, I don't recommend only sand. Geraniums grow well in most garden soil as long as it drains well. Loam soil, which has a loose, crumbly texture and is high in organic matter, results in the best growth but the geraniums can also grow in poorer soils. You can use one part soil, one part sand and one part peat if you want.
