Iga has been a one hit wonder so far. I believe success in WTA field is based on which player has the momentum in that particular tournament. Success is unfortunately not based on consistency. So WTA needs to come up with momentum based seeding, or get rid of seeding all together. If the player has a momentum in a particular tournament, they should just push through it and win the title. Because they never know when they will another title again.

All of this is symptomatic of what is either right or wrong with the WTA at the moment. You have consistent, regular top ten players like Pliskova, Sabalenka and Svitolina who are always the favourites but never fail to disappoint in the biggest matches. This leaves the door ajar for streaky players to hit a hot streak and go through & steal a slam. There are so many 1 slammers at the moment playing - as fans we expect them to do what Barty, Osaka and Halep have done & at least win one more but it isn't happening.

Swiatek must have been having an off day, a tell tale sign is when she's not bothering to run for returnable shots. I admit it's sad to see her lose, especially to someone i loathe as much as Ostapenko.
Ostapenko is so awesome and entertaining. What a character! Her smile is contagious and she’s a Queen 👑 favorite player on tour 😇
cry more lmao
@@user-vc4xo7hw5q hehehe yeah. I pretty much back anyone going up against Ostapenko given her track record of poor sportsmanship. She did play really well here and kudos to her but I still think Swiatek was playing far below her usual self. Any other day but I guess today was Ostapenko's.
Jelena was very, very good today, but Iga didn't feel well. She was kinda tired or unfocused, therefore slow. Maybe some kind of pain. I got RG deja vu from match against Sakkari. There was something wrong, she didn't move well. Her serve left her in crucial moments. She wasn't able to defend break points, there were a lot of easy mistakes. I hope she's okay, Helluva battle in Mexico awaits her.
In this match, Iga became passive and less aggressive not going after the ball. She just watched Jelena do her precise groundstrokes without trying to catch them. After R3, Iga needs to build her stamina better to last for 5 sets. Jelena is a ground pounder and hits hard.
Jalena insane today..played out of skin... amazing
How good could Jelena really have become if she had had a real coach all these years?
My only criticism of Iga if you can call it that is she appears to be too placid for her own good sometimes. She needs to learn how to dig in more when things are not going to plan. She is too nice. She plays great tennis match after match barely losing a game then when she is tested her levels can drop. She will learn this though in time, she is a great talent and great to watch.
Ostapenko played very well here 👏🏼
Sakkari, Jabeur, Ostapenko - players Swiatek will have a negative match score….. they hit strong and flat.
Iga hits only in the middle (on the racket) and has no chance….
Exactly, and every fan of Iga know it. So we can assume that Iga nad her team know too. Unfortunately I'm afraid that she can't do much more against these types of players with her forehand technique so she will awlays struggle in that kind of matchup.
The middle of the racket is the best place to hit the ball
@@jeffreykaufmann2867 - 😀 in the middle of the court……. Opponent doesn’t need to move at all…….
@@michawu4401 Yeah I noticed that too. I was literally screaming for Iga to stop hitting the ball to the middle of the court.
@@michawu4401 Medvedev's strategy vs Novak (2021 U.S Open) was to hit more in the middle to prevent him from hitting Sharp Angle Winners.
all my favts are out from indian wells masters.... IGA 💔
Jelena has more hitting powers than Andy Murray in his prime time; that muscles is no joke!
Iga would never cross 4th round it seems. Become 4th round bunny.😃
Go ahead Ostapenko! I thought Swiatek would win but you deserved to win this!
Ostapen blew Iga off the court not suprised, Iga has lost qualities that made her RG champion. Not defending that title really led to her going downhill
Lol she won RG in the middle of a pandemic. The only thing she lost was an easy tournament.
She is overrated and this matched confirmed that. A great player should be able to break down penkos poor serve and one dimensional game
@@jameshampton5659 100%
@@jameshampton5659, as much as I am rooting for Iga, I agree, that her ranking is too high, too fast. I think that the ranking system needs an overhaul.
@@chrisak49 Agree,,,the pandemic is what allowed Swiatek to grab RG 2020...but ever since she won only very minor event like
Adelaide (which attracted bottom players) and Rome ,where sheer luck and poor players like Pliskova let her won...Swiatek
is OVERRATED and ONE HIT WONDER...She is unstable psychologically what ruins her physically, hence an early exit each
time...all she can is 3rd or 4th round at best...After RG 2020 (where one must admit that she was ANOTHER or different
Swiatek ,who played a class above the rest just like another Steffi Graff) she glided down to become a mediocre player
who can lose with any bottom player...Even Koniuh won with her...After RG 2020 Swiatek was tipped by many to join the
golden greats like Steffi Graff,Serena Williams but sadly all turned out to be just hollow expectations on behalf of her many
fans and well wishes....Sad
Iga has been a one hit wonder so far. I believe success in WTA field is based on which player has the momentum in that particular tournament. Success is unfortunately not based on consistency. So WTA needs to come up with momentum based seeding, or get rid of seeding all together. If the player has a momentum in a particular tournament, they should just push through it and win the title. Because they never know when they will another title again.
Wha ..?? Man, lay off the weed. Or smoke some more weed, I don't know how it works with you, but you're not smoking the exact right amount of weed!! 🤨🤔😀
Unfortunately Iga's game is going down.Such a talent...sorry
Too early for any statements I think ;-)
She is still “just” starting …
She has had a very consistent and decent season. She has dealt well most of the time with the expectations. Odd statement considering she has recently risen into the top 5 in the world.
The battle between two former French Open champions and it went to Ostapenko. When Osty's on her game she's Very Very hard to beat. She comes up with some terrific power backhands from ALL over the court. Amazing power game she has (when she's on).
Sadly her consistency is awful. She plays like that once per tournament and usually not even for the whole match.
@@svetoslavtodorov2427 True. Her focus can be all over the place. After her grand slam achievement she's been playing with house money and just seems to want to get by here and there.
Jelena game is amazing ..
It is funny this is only the very first Iga’s Indian Wells game on the WTA channel.
Unfortunately the lost one.
WTA, why?
Because she's been a loser lately.
@@mublikbublik7911 well, there is many more other games on the channel between the losers… Do not get it.
I love Ostapenko every time she toss the ball on her serve like she always open her mouth and she’s abt to puke 😂😂
Why do you have to show us on the highlights Ostapenko's corner at every point she wins??? why do you think is important for the highligths that we have to see her corner clapping???
Imagine if Jelena had a good serve...
We would call her Serena Williams then. :p
Yes I agree. She'd be even better
Wow, Jelena so Well to day , She is deserve to win
tough loss but hope she learns from it
Unfortunately, Iga won’t draw any conclusions from her losses…
She would like to do but she has only ONE STRATEGY for the match.
When she loses, she goes to the toilet and calls medical help….(Sakkari RG’21).
She can’t handle the even matches, top points or when she loses…. Crucial points - double faults, no first serve, etc.
Abramowicz - psychologist she cooperates is her fellow friend, not a therapist….
Iga is weak as far as sports mentality is concerned….🙀
@@michawu4401 👌
I like Jelena Ostapenko very much
Swiatek best legs in tennis... ;)
Magda Linette😉
yeah well kontaveit cirstea vekic and kalinskaya WALK ALL OVER THEM! hahaha
it's simple, ostapenko shots have always been an all-or-nothing type of shots, she's gonna win the title this time too for sure cus it doesnt seem al all that her risky shots will let her down this time.
Swiatek is 3-9 in 2021 against top #30 players on hard court ( 25% ) .
I love swiatek. ❤
I am writing this on 6/23/23---Iga still has never beaten Ostapenko-----it's 3-0 Penko.
We want video longer
Go Elena💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Jelena can be erratic with her big strokes. But in this match she was on fire.
Two great Roland Garros Champions ❤ Good job Jelena ❤ and nice game Iga ❤✨
I think Jelena likes slow courts because balls jump higher and that plays into her hard hitting style. It gives her more margin for error.
Battle of RG 1 slammers
Jelena is a fighter!
Couldn't help but notice that Iga has started grunting, but only when hitting a second serve. Reminds me of Sam Stosur - coincidence or deliberate imitation?
Wola walki jako prezentuje Jelena O .jest godna podziwu ,brakuje jej Idze..
Ostapenko has Swiatek number
Played Three occasions won them all.
Not once was Swiatek’s corner shown on the screen?
This one really surprised me.
Swaitek gets her butt kicked.
On man jekyll and Hyde come to play today. Keep it up
Great Jelena ❤️❤️🔥
Let's go IGA!!!! 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
Too late.
What was that handshake from Iga?!?
I can't see anything unusual in that handshake.
What do you mean?
Very terrible woman, she need to respect Ostapenko's game.
@@rubyruby4368 they shook hands 🤝 What else she should do? Give her a kiss? Lol
@@rubyruby4368 LOL. What are you talking about ??? Very terrible woman ?????? Hahahaha. There is no basis in fact for that statement, but I apologize if English is not your first language, and you do not know what you are writing.
Another inconsistency... Anyone can win in wta... Ranking is wasteless here
Ostapenko is certainly not everyone's cup-of-tea (attitude is a little McEnroish at times...the "facial" when serving), but the girl is a fighter and can't ever be counted out.
