Freddy just needs to harden up n make the tough calls. I think he just didn’t have the heart to make the tough calls to drop players under performing and players going into the game underdone. Brandy should have less involvement if any. Whoever the selectors are they need to go. Let’s face it the selections made were shocking. If you look at the Crichton intercept run, it looks similar to the Blake Ferguson run in Game 3 of 2019. In 2019 Tedesco was there in support, but in 2023 no NSW player is near Crichton.

Even if they picked Staggs and Crichton (two fit players) Burton is the prototype 14. He covers 1-7 easily, and could be trained to cover 9 for 15-20 minutes per game if needed. If he was a QLDer he’d be picked no question.

Ricky Stuart. Look at the 2011-2012 series. We didn’t win but we went to game 3 for both of them and only lost by 1 point in one of them. His selections were perfect and he didn’t base them off other series, he based them off who was currently in form and made the combinations work.

I've been saying it for years. Clearly and Luai may have a stella club win ratio when playing together. But they only win with the wind at there backs. Even the slightest grind and the fold! Take away Cleary, Luai starts with his usual grub arrogance but quickly fades to nothing when again, challenged! Rewatch the origin. As soon as they were in the gringing machine, he fades to the outer edges and becomes completely passive. Just immediately passing the ball on when it comes to him. Reference him against munster in game one. Pinned on there line and behind at times. He just keeps standing up and MAKING things happen in both offence and defence. He's a weak pos and a disgrace to have someone like him over a Nicho!
If Freddy goes and Sticky won't come back full-time, it has to be Danny Buderus. Forget the Johns brothers, Gus, Bellamy (who won 2 from 9 in his stint) etc. Danny has been in and around the NSW camp for years as an assistant and is a NSW legend. Smart guy, knows the system, knows the players, champion player himself, champion captain and a good guy.

At this point the only real option that NSW have to compete with the shear analysis of game understanding that Billy holds, would be the likes of Guss. It saddens me to think that no one else comes to mind to compete. We have been battling a Tsun Tzu type with our own (although loveable) Oddball from Kelly’s Heros. The sane could not expect any other result. Bring back Guss as coach!

It’s on the field, the passion, the pride, the effort, the commitment, the communication and the overall reluctance to allow anything but the win. That’s what we need to start looking for. In saying that really we have to think about their spine of coaching staff. Yes Billy is the coach but because this is his first couple of years he has intelligently used all at his disposal to help. He has used Cam Smith, Jonathan Thurston and others to help coach his team. Arguably some of the best analytical players of past history of the game. Coaching is a managers role and if you lack experience as Billy did 2 years ago, you seek input from smart people you put around you. That shows Billy’s intelligence! The only other option is to have someone that holds all that analytical knowledge & experience in one. Although there are a lot (including Buzz) that don’t like Gus. He has a head for footy that many in our State don’t. I do agree with one point Buzz made. We do need an independent review of NRL in NSW. we need an overhaul of many from the board to selectors not just the coach. We need to restore the old cattledog mentality and rip the whole NSW Rugby League system apart. We NSWelshmen need to feel honour and pride in our footy state again. Come back the Blues 👕, we’ve had our heads bowed in shame too many times. Restore our NSW pride!

Frankly there's too much emotion surrounding the NSW drubbing. It's important that Fitler is replaced with a coach who is ruthless, organised, cunning, meticulous about his approach to selection, game planning and match day scenarios. It's very obvious to see the lack meaningful preparation for the game with poor selection and no B plan for injuries and game day failures. Fitler and Alexander are mentally void in terms of better strategies and structures for Origin in 2023

Freddy picks an injury ridden centre that is at 30% and follows that up by selecting 2 number 9’s and dropping his utility halves Hynes, after only giving him 10 minutes in game 1. Burton, Hynes are so much more valuable to his team than show pony Luai and the deteriorating Turbo
James Maloney successful NSW representative player with huge experience recently retired ,passionate and smart who knows most of the players in NSW team add that he is been playing under Bellamy and Robinson which will be helpful playing origin. If Qld can be coached by Slater why not NSW have nothing to lose...

i couldn't understand cook at centre either was not fair on him. 2 players i don't know why NSW never pick and no one talks about is Dylan Edwards and Campbell Graham. ideally edwards,graham,mitchell (when he is fit) and criton ,burton, would be a great backline in my opinion. So many great players were simply not there and players that were, were out of position. I'm a believer that every player at this level needs to play in these positions every week and excel at them to be picked .Hopefully next year we pick players that are our best players at the time rather then if the coach likes them personally.
While I agree Mitchell is probably a better centre than fullback, he plays at fullback week in, week out as does Edwards. Two fullbacks by your own metric, one of which would be playing out of position if playing in the same backline.
NSW have got plenty of good men. Robinson... Clearly ... Bellamy ... Hasler ... Fitzgibbon .. these guys all know the modern game and have their analysts across every modern player. Fittler was always going to find it hard as QLD forced us to change our thinking. Someone with 3 out of 4 series wins .. trying to convince them a change of approach was needed. Very hard. BTW why doesn't DCE show the same intensity at club level.. he hasn't run that hard in years.
Luai would’ve been able to pick up play the balls. Because he has played no. 9. But I would’ve picked RCG, Ray Stone, and have given Staggs another chance. Or actually, Burton should’ve been 14. It feels like a waste having a halfback/five-eighth at centre. Vossy was right. If your 14 is a centre, a lot of players move 1 position.

Freddie did well until he lost Cordner to premature injury and rarely having Mitchell and/or Turbo available, Murray and Jake T rarely being fully fit and regularly losing a player in the one position not covered on the bench early on a match and Cleary missing for a couple of vital matches. NSW has been ravaged by injury in almost every year of Freddie’s tenure. He did pretty well whenever he had a full strength side.

Nevertheless, am just another proud Queenslander suggesting a good matchup for a competitive Origin 2024 “for my eyes only”! Especially, when NSW Blues play good rugby league the Queensland Maroons play best! Freddie is not the problem though; it’s the advantage Billy Slater has. He’s surrounded himself with legends of the game; Cam Smith, Alan Langer, Jonathan Thurston and Josh Hannay! And on the field all 17 Queenslanders had carried each other to make us here from the Tweed through and up the Torres Islands proud of our team!

I wouldn’t be too worried. When turbo, latrell and Murray are fully fit its a different team. Jake trbojevic, Campbell Gillard leave big holes in the team. Players like Campbell graham, Burton and hynes are world class, are mistakenly left out again (like in the past with vic radley and wighton who lost faith in nsw after being left out so many times) you could throw matterson in that group of constantly overlooked. Plus copying qlds 2 hooker plan is the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen. Anyway stop doing that sort of thing and you’ll be ok. Because we need these guys for Australia!

If Freddy goes and Sticky won't come back full-time, it has to be Danny Buderus. Forget the Johns brothers, Gus, Bellamy (who won 2 from 9 in his stint) etc. Danny has been in and around the NSW camp for years as an assistant and is a NSW legend. Smart guy, knows the system, knows the players, champion player himself, champion captain and a good guy.

At this point the only real option that NSW have to compete with the shear analysis of game understanding that Billy holds, would be the likes of Guss. It saddens me to think that no one else comes to mind to compete. We have been battling a Tsun Tzu type with our own (although loveable) Oddball from Kelly’s Heros. The sane could not expect any other result. Bring back Guss as coach!
Slater obviously is a good coach..but he would also say that Qld were not perfect...at the start of the series I thought the NSW backline was too good...

It’s on the field, the passion, the pride, the effort, the commitment, the communication and the overall reluctance to allow anything but the win. That’s what we need to start looking for.
In saying that really we have to think about their spine of coaching staff. Yes Billy is the coach but because this is his first couple of years he has intelligently used all at his disposal to help. He has used Cam Smith, Jonathan Thurston and others to help coach his team. Arguably some of the best analytical players of past history of the game. Coaching is a managers role and if you lack experience as Billy did 2 years ago, you seek input from smart people you put around you. That shows Billy’s intelligence!
The only other option is to have someone that holds all that analytical knowledge & experience in one. Although there are a lot (including Buzz) that don’t like Gus. He has a head for footy that many in our State don’t.
I do agree with one point Buzz made. We do need an independent review of NRL in NSW. we need an overhaul of many from the board to selectors not just the coach. We need to restore the old cattledog mentality and rip the whole NSW Rugby League system apart. We NSWelshmen need to feel honour and pride in our footy state again.

Frankly there's too much emotion surrounding the NSW drubbing. It's important that Fitler is replaced with a coach who is ruthless, organised, cunning, meticulous about his approach to selection, game planning and match day scenarios.
It's very obvious to see the lack meaningful preparation for the game with poor selection and no B plan for injuries and game day failures.
Fitler and Alexander are mentally void in terms of better strategies and structures for Origin in 2023
Braith was a good player but he's a better commentator imo. He never wastes his breath and remains so calm.

James Maloney successful NSW representative player with huge experience recently retired ,passionate and smart who knows most of the players in NSW team add that he is been playing under Bellamy and Robinson which will be helpful playing origin. NSW has a disconnect with picking and sticking with the league's best indigenous players. Until they address that players like Cody Walker and Latrell Mitchell will always fake injuries or even declare themselves unavailable to play. Queensland is set to dominate origin for the next 2 series under Slater regardless of who coaches NSW

i couldn't understand cook at centre either was not fair on him. 2 players i don't know why NSW never pick and no one talks about is Dylan Edwards and Campbell Graham. ideally edwards,graham,mitchell (when he is fit) and criton ,burton, would be a great backline in my opinion. So many great players were simply not there and players that were, were out of position. I'm a believer that every player at this level needs to play in these positions every week and excel at them to be picked .Hopefully next year we pick players that are our best players at the time rather then if the coach likes them personally.

While I agree Mitchell is probably a better centre than fullback, he plays at fullback week in, week out as does Edwards. Two fullbacks by your own metric, one of which would be playing out of position if playing in the same backline.

NSW have got plenty of good men. Robinson... Clearly ... Bellamy ... Hasler ... Fitzgibbon .. these guys all know the modern game and have their analysts across every modern player. Fittler was always going to find it hard as QLD forced us to change our thinking. Someone with 3 out of 4 series wins .. trying to convince them a change of approach was needed. Very hard.
BTW why doesn't DCE show the same intensity at club level.. he hasn't run that hard in years.

Look at Slater's coaching in the second half Queensland exploited Cooke's weakness his height, but he did keep Walsh quiet.

Freddie did well until he lost Cordner to premature injury and rarely having Mitchell and/or Turbo available, Murray and Jake T rarely being fully fit and regularly losing a player in the one position not covered on the bench early on a match and Cleary missing for a couple of vital matches. NSW has been ravaged by injury in almost every year of Freddie’s tenure. He did pretty well whenever he had a full strength side.

I wouldn’t be too worried. When turbo, latrell and Murray are fully fit its a different team. Jake trbojevic, Campbell Gillard leave big holes in the team. Players like Campbell graham, Burton and hynes are world class, are mistakenly left out again (like in the past with vic radley and wighton who lost faith in nsw after being left out so many times) you could throw matterson in that group of constantly overlooked. Plus copying qlds 2 hooker plan is the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen. Anyway stop doing that sort of thing and you’ll be ok. Because we need these guys for Australia!

Buzz's point is 100% valid at the opening though. He is asking, if you have a guy who plays a position on the bench, then an opening comes up and don't use him. Instead you got a hooker in that position. Why pick him? Worried about his groin? Why pick him? That is poor team management.
