    anyone who says Teddy needs to be dropped doesn't get origin. Let's take it back to 2021 when the captain of QLD Daly Cherry Evans gets absolutely fisted by NSW to a worse extant that Teddy did last night. Not one person was saying "drop DCE" after one of the worst Origin series for a captain ever. QLD have stuck true to DCE after that series as a captain and look at him now, he is going to go down a QLD legend. Sure Teddy has had a slump but let's not forgot he's the captain. Sure drop him at the end of this year if we lose the series but dropping your captain after an 8 point loss is a way to get flogged in game 2.
    If anyone should be copping the criticism for last night it's the golden boy Nathan Cleary, the man who tweets out "keen for origin" and smirks at the camera before kick off but then goes missing for 80 minutes, hell Luai was better then him by a mile!. Everyone's using Teddy as the scapegoat but let's not forget the missed tackles that led to the line breaks (To'o being out of position, Addo Carr missed tackle, no one chasing Lindsay and helping Teddy). It was a poor display from the team, not just Teddy and putting in another Panther is not the option, as the ones from last night were rubbish.

    • @adhisinganallur8718
      @adhisinganallur8718 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree but thats mostly due to a necessity too, without moving players out of position, QLD really had no one to replace DCE. This tedesco conversation is only happening because they are so many people (turbo, mitchell, edwards) who can replace him. I agree with the lack of criticism at cleary, but fittler has to take responsibility for not getting him out of there with hynes on the bench, who he had no discernable plan for.

    • @matonatomic
      @matonatomic ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree in many ways. NSW management/media/supporters view their team like a K-Pop dance group. Always ready to criticize and pull out the knives when they don't perform. Us Qld'ers rarely do that. If our players play badly, we feel for them, we share the pain with them. We don't hang them out to dry. I remember when Hodges had shockers, and even Lockyer in his early days didn't do well at F/Back, we didn't crucify them in front of the horde. Teddy should be picked again, not because he has a free pass etc, but rather because how good a player he is. He will be more hungry to redeem himself in game 2.

      NSW don't have better players, and neither does QLD. Cleary and Luai are examples of players working well in a well coached team at club level. Neither has another level to go up to, and very few players do, but Munster is one who does have the extra level. Cleary and Luai benefit so much from the two premier frontrowers who lay the platform which gives them time and space to shine at club level. That time and space is not available in Origin games ( mostly ).

  • @ozpaddlebrisbane9015
    @ozpaddlebrisbane9015 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Why are they talking about Tedesco and know one is talking about Cleary. When you’re up the scoreboard and the opposition is a man down and a heap of injury it’s up to the dominant half (cleary) to control that game. Remember the great QLD teams. Lockyer controlled it, thurston controlled it, cronk controlled it. Cleary and Louai went missing in the last 10 when they needed them. I’d drop cleary and louai before teddy

    As good a bloke as Fittler is, he isn't much of a coach. That's evident by the fact he debuted players like TBJ and Hudson Young and STARTED them, instead of his best 13. He selected these players because of some vague "NSW aren't going to be bullied" reason.
    Also his plan for Hynes was to plonk him on the bench for 80 minutes, or until an outside back went down injured. On the flip side, Slater chose and utilised each of his 4 interchange players effectively. As long as Slater is QLD's coach, and Fittler NSW's, they will always be inferior to QLD.

Edwards is the best fullback in the comp at the moment and Latrell is doing well too but the injury scares aren’t ideal. Edwards deserved that jersey for Game 1. If he didn’t impress then it could’ve been given back to Tedesco for Game 2 simple as that.

    My questions is,
    If NSW manage to win in Qld and go on to win in game 3, will NSW get the same praise as QLD for defying all odds?
    2018 series, the blues had 11 debutants (including a 20 year old halfback) up against a team with Slater, Inglis, Munster, Gagai (over 70 origin games experience). Nobody really gave NSW a chance and the Blues wrapped it up in game 2. This narrative has changed since then that NSW had the much better side.
    Can we imagine the narrative we would be hearing if in 2021, QLD had to play all three games in NSW and wrapped the series up in game 2 with a 76-6 margin? Nobody gave NSW any credit for defying all odds stacked against them. If QLD had accomplished that it would all be about how “NSW just don’t get origin” or “how could NSW lose when they had such a big advantage?”.

    Tedesco having "money in the bank" ... can you cash that in after a loss? No? Well that should tell you all you need to know. Cleary underperformed, Luai won't pass to anyone that isn't a Panther, Turbo shouldn't have even been there, Tedesco is cooked (QLD have him figured out) and Freddy just didn't pick the right players. It's that simple. I put $$$ on QLD as soon as I saw the team lineup and got paid out and I don't really care who wins pride-wise one way or the other. NSW just had a terrible side and the inability of people like Ennis and Buzz to acknowledge a poor team and to pick new players who will get the job done means QLD wins game 2. People might say "Oh, well, they're playing in QLD so QLD will always win" is just a cop out for not owning up to terrible selections. The Penrith Panthers vs Maroons is a failed experiment. Gordy was the only one speaking sense that entire time.
