CLOUD ARCHITECT, PLEASE! Im formerly 20yrs, Telcom Network (Infrastructure) Engineer, all intracompany. So Im very comfortable in a networking environment, and do have some business forecasting, troubleshooting experience from having worked with Technical Business Analysts and making solutions for them, and their clients. Now, wish to (work SOLELY ) from home, doing cloud architecture and solutions. I have experience with studying, AWS, AZURE, and currently hold an Oracle cloud cert. Love it! lol 😆 So glad I found your channel. .. thank you.
Thank you Mike , I wanted to review this video for a second time confirm I have a clear understanding of a General Cloud Architect role. Excellent explanation.
Grate explanation Mike, Thanks. Looking at the diagonal curve in the graph allows me to spot my coordinate and train towards the focus point. I am looking forward to your guidance.
Thank you for this video! I know this wasn't the scope of this video but where would the cloud sec architect fit? I'm working on this route on the azure side. thanks again!
That’s a fantastic route. The path is the same for a cloud architect but you will need to know security as well. We made a video a few weeks back on cloud security interview questions. th-cam.com/video/AgB33UPGcBc/w-d-xo.html
Thank you for the suggestion! While we work on that, please watch our video about Cloud Engineer Career Training (Types of Cloud Engineers): th-cam.com/video/KS1asAQgkjo/w-d-xo.html #cloudhired
There is no coding in either of these jobs Please see the videos on this channel - what does a cloud architect do and do solutions architects need coding skills
As is customary with Gocloud initiatives, this is very useful information @Mike. Thank you. I'm interested in aws solution's architect-hoping to follow up your training and gain in-depth project base knowledge, and get ready for a to walk the path towards becoming a cloud architect. It clears a lot of doubts and discrepancies about roles to play in the cloud.
In the beginning you have mixed cloud engineer with cloud architect :D But overall very good video to explain people the difference between engineer and architect.
Well it depends upon one’s goals One can start as architect, move to senior architect, to principal architect and stay there. Or a cloud architect / solutions architect can move into an enterprise architect role Or a good cloud architect with strong business acumen could go form cloud architect to a director of architecture then move to a VP or CIO role. It’s all based upon one’s goals and how the focus their careers
PS: It seems easy to get overwhelmed by everything we think we need to know and waste precious time and resources trying to acquire them. Thanks again Mike for the video!
I don’t know what you mean by NFRs. But it’s the architect that gets the business requirements. The business requirements or what the customer needs to do then becomes the technical or cloud requirements. That’s a big part of the architects job.
So to be cloud architect, we need to start our journey like: Cloud Engineer --> Solution Architect --> Cloud Architect ? Is it or something I am missing ?
Rohit. Sometimes our students fist job is a cloud architect or solutions architect. Engineering and architecture are very different. Sometimes having an engineering background helps - but not always. In any case their are no rules about how to get someplace. It’s more about your technical competency, attitude, communication skills, executive presence, emotional intelligence etc then any past job.
Thank you for your question, Richard! The answer is no. All public cloud providers use the same technology to build their clouds. If you learn the fundamental technologies they all use, you will be able to work in any cloud. I've been struggling to find a definition of each of these roles and how they differ, so this was helpful. What would you call the position between the Cloud Engineer and Solutions Architect? I have a client who is in a Solutions Architect role, often performs the roles of the Cloud Architect, but misses the hands on work of an Engineer. They're more than the "guy with headphones on in the back room", has seen a lot, offers solutions, can be "customer facing" when needed (whiteboards and all), but doesn't "just want to talk about the solutions", and finds satisfaction of problem solving and actually building out the solution. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks again for this video.
Hi Red Cloud Solutions. All architect roles are really customer facing roles. It’s that communication skill, business acumen, executive presence combined with tech that makes an architect an architect. But there is one architect role that’s mostly an engineer. That’s the technical architect. It’s more of a very senior engineer. These people tend to be very technical and do far less presentations, document writing etc.
It’s not necessary to be an engineer to start an architecture career. We have many people who never worked in tech getting their first cloud architect and enterprise architect roles after our training. You can see many videos about people who got their first tech job as an architect on or channel. We also take cloud engineers and retrain them for architecture roles as architecture and engineering have very little common. Why don’t you join us for a free webinar on cloud architect or enterprise architecture careers. There you can learn what we do and see why we are completely different then cloud engineers. www.gocloudarchitects.com/become-the-ultimate-cloud-architect-webinar-youtube/
Hi Mike, I'm on the path to getting my AWS SAA CO3 certification. I don't have a technical background but I've worked in high level customer facing roles, face to face meetings, presentations etc. I wanted to transition from my current Sales BD role to SAA. Do you know what beginner level position that I should apply for? I can study and take the exam but I want to know the best entry level position I should start with to work my way up from. Thank you so much for everything you do!! Love and appreciate the content!!
There is no such things as an entry level position. Entry level positions basically assuming you don’t have the advantage of education and you want to start at the bottom and maybe a decade later you get to your goals. Physicians, lawyers and cloud architects with the right training start at the top. We have countless students whose first job is a cloud architects, solutions architect and even senior architect roles with no tech experience just our training. Now certifications will not prepare you for any job but the right training will. Why don’t you come to this free webinar and we can help you get to your goals. my.demio.com/ref/01ppStEkIUVxsXXj

I do Configurations in SAP System to achieve Business objectives. Can you please guide, which Role is suitable for me to transform my career in to Cloud platform Regards, Rajeev

So the real question is what do you desire to do? That’s the job that’s suitable for you. Then just build a plan, and follow that plan to get to your goals 😊
For my employeer, the "Solutions Architect" is basically what you described as Enterprise Architect. And its the most senior of the 2. They rank them as Data Architect > Cloud Architect > Solutions Architect, and Enterprise Architect is often very very non technical, and less prestigious (Ive seen similar on other firms as well). This is multi billion dollar consultant firm. For example, they ask this for Solutions Architects (Courses and evaluations) Focus on quality2 Focus on results2 People development1 Application Design2 Application Development1 Cloud Architecture Design2 Enterprise Application Architecture Design2 Information Security Management2 Monitoring of Technological Trends and Business Models2 Support changes / developments of the system2 Sustainable Development1 System Architecture Design2 They ask this for Cloud Architects. @@GoCloudArchitects yes but if based on the skills I provided. My assessment correct ?. How would you see within the skills I provided the Solution Architect ? More high level than the Cloud right ?
@@KaratePath these are the descriptions you gave not the normal architect descriptions. Your descriptions at what major tech companies like Cisco, IBM use but are specific to your company. The reason the enterprise architects earn more and are typically a higher level position is their business focus. It’s typically a more CXO level job. It’s also a director level position at most big tech companies. But honestly I have been an architect for decades and have seen some companies make their own definitions. Especially with solutions architects. Every company has their own definition and and they can be anything from a cell phone sales person to someone doing enterprise architecture.
@@KaratePath Well yes these roles get less and less technical as you move up the ranks. The prestige is not on being a great techie. The prestige is learning how to maximize the business with technology. That’s why the less technical roles pay more. But all of these roles are becoming more enterprise architect like, as the separation between architecture which is focused on the business, and engineering which is focused on the tech widens. The separation between architects and engineers will grow more with artificial intelligence and new technologies. When it comes to designing big picture you just need a team of people to get as deep.

Hello what is the difference between solution architect as described in your video and azure or other cloud provider solutions architect? I'm developer with 10 years of experience and achieved several azure certification especially administrator associate (az-104). I will probably try to get the devops certification but I'd like try to also get the azure solution architect in the next 2 years. My professionnal goal in short term is to be software architect but with cloud solutions so I guess to achieve azure solutions architect is a good choice. What do you think about my path?
Hi, These are industry terms as opposed to vendor terms. So a solution architect on aws will know aws services, a solution architect on azure will know azure services. While a cloud architect is more of someone who designs the end to end solution regardless of this provider. This same thing applies to network architect vs solution architects as well.
@@GoCloudArchitects Yes, with the caveat that many companies and HRs mix these titles up all the time. There are lots of jobs called "cloud architect" that are really just senior cloud engineers skillsets. I'm not saying this reference model for describing the differences is wrong or not helpful- quite the opposite. But viewers will be confused when they see jobs that don't match what is described here.
Hi Celeb, Not exactly. A cloud architect or solution architect is like a cloud engineer and a business executive in the same person. The difference between a cloud architect and a solution architect is the cloud architect can help the customer design a solution on all clouds. A solution architect only knows one cloud. So a solution architect is like a junior cloud architect
Hmm. AWS places Cloud and Solutions on different levels of hierarchy th-cam.com/video/jpZCg4sCz_o/w-d-xo.html than you. They claim Solution(s) architect to have higher level of abstraction, which (to me personally) sounds more natural. Cloud Architect can be fine knowing just a single cloud/vendor well. Not the case for Solution(s) Architects.
Hi Ivan, All companies have their own names for their own positions. AWS is one of the many tens of thousands of employers who hire cloud architects In most companies cloud architects design the multi cloud solution. Solutions architects design on a single cloud. Now 98 percent of end customers use more then one cloud. Thats why in most companies the cloud architect its a bigger role. The cloud architect sits in between the enterprise architects and the solutions architect. This means the cloud architect will lead the solutions architects from various vendors, AWS, Azure, Cisco, Microsoft, Security vendors like Palo Alto to design the customers multi-cloud architectures AWS is the exception in their naming. At AWS the cloud architect isn't really an architect at all. Its more of an engineering role with some technical design. Like a cross between an engineer and architect.

Thank you for this video! I know this wasn't the scope of this video but where would the cloud sec architect fit? I'm working on this route on the azure side. thanks again!
That’s a fantastic route. The path is the same for a cloud architect but you will need to know security as well.

sorry for silly question. But which one needs the least coding skills ???
There is no coding in either of these jobs
Please see the videos on this channel - what does a cloud architect do and do solutions architects need coding skills
Thank you Mike for clarification between Solution and Cloud Architect. Now I know.
Thank you Ian.

What does career progression typically look like?
Well it depends upon one’s goals
One can start as architect, move to senior architect, to principal architect and stay there.
Or a cloud architect / solutions architect can move into an enterprise architect role
Or a good cloud architect with strong business acumen could go form cloud architect to a director of architecture then move to a VP or CIO role.
It’s all based upon one’s goals and how the focus their careers
WoW you nailed it Mike. I will concentrate in acquiring more depth to follow the path of cloud architect
Thank you Rizwan. I love the cloud architect role too
Solution Architect. Perfect explanations.

Who is responsible for capturing the NFRs and cloud requirements ?
I don’t know what you mean by NFRs. But it’s the architect that gets the business requirements.
The business requirements or what the customer needs to do then becomes the technical or cloud requirements.
That’s a big part of the architects job.
Thank you, Mike, this has been eye-opening and very helpful to know which direction to go. I really appreciate the breakdown of the positions
Thank you Don
So to be cloud architect, we need to start our journey like:
Cloud Engineer --> Solution Architect --> Cloud Architect ? Is it or something I am missing ?
Rohit.
Sometimes our students fist job is a cloud architect or solutions architect.
Engineering and architecture are very different.
Sometimes having an engineering background helps - but not always.
In any case their are no rules about how to get someplace.
It’s more about your technical competency, attitude, communication skills, executive presence, emotional intelligence etc then any past job.
Pls explain software architect
This was really helpful information. Thank you.

Should Cloud Architects specialise in either AWS, GCP or Azure?

@@GoCloudArchitects Thank you! That makes a lot of sense.
Great explanation
Thanks for explaining the differences.
We are happy to help. Thank you for watching

I desire to be a cloud security architect because I come from a security background
That's a great plan and a very needed role.
To be Enterprise architect is it necessary to start your career from cloud engineer?.

Really useful info, Mike
Thank you very much Gopa.
For example, they ask this for Solutions Architects (Courses and evaluations)

Every company has their own definition.
Our definition is what the majority of major employees use.
I know. I just meant that if mine matches the original assessment I made compared to your assessment
How can I get in contact with you. Thank you,

Hi,
These are industry terms as opposed to vendor terms.
So a solution architect on aws will know aws services, a solution architect on azure will know azure services.
While a cloud architect is more of someone who designs the end to end solution regardless of this provider.
This same thing applies to network architect vs solution architects as well.
@@GoCloudArchitects thank you.

Azure Cloud Architect
Do cloud engineers code ?
Cloud engineers code but cloud architects do not code
@@GoCloudArchitects Yes, with the caveat that many companies and HRs mix these titles up all the time. There are lots of jobs called "cloud architect" that are really just senior cloud engineers skillsets. I'm not saying this reference model for describing the differences is wrong or not helpful- quite the opposite. But viewers will be confused when they see jobs that don't match what is described here.

With your help, I want to be AWS Solution Architect!
Hi Geni. We will do everything we can to help you.
So a Cloud architect is if a Cloud engineer & solution architect had a baby😂😂
Hi Celeb,
Not exactly. A cloud architect or solution architect is like a cloud engineer and a business executive in the same person.
The difference between a cloud architect and a solution architect is the cloud architect can help the customer design a solution on all clouds. A solution architect only knows one cloud. So a solution architect is like a junior cloud architect
solution architect
Hi Ivan,
All companies have their own names for their own positions. AWS is one of the many tens of thousands of employers who hire cloud architects
In most companies cloud architects design the multi cloud solution. Solutions architects design on a single cloud. Now 98 percent of end customers use more then one cloud. Thats why in most companies the cloud architect its a bigger role. The cloud architect sits in between the enterprise architects and the solutions architect.
This means the cloud architect will lead the solutions architects from various vendors, AWS, Azure, Cisco, Microsoft, Security vendors like Palo Alto to design the customers multi-cloud architectures
AWS is the exception in their naming. At AWS the cloud architect isn't really an architect at all. Its more of an engineering role with some technical design. Like a cross between an engineer and architect.
