    The judge was Herman Munster from the TV show the Munsters, that’s why he looks so familiar. He was the Frankenstein dad.

    This movie has always been hilarious to me, but now that I've worked at a courthouse for a while, it's even funnier. My favorite line is, "Mrs. Riley...AND ONLY MRS RILEY!!!", which was apparently ad-libbed. It gets me very time.

    At the time this movie was made, digital cameras and video cassette recorders were really expensive - my first VCR cost about $1,000 and it was another decade before I got a digital camera. So video security systems were limited to protected very high-priced items, not this little store.
    But also back then, crime was much less in these rural towns. People often left their doors open, even when they weren't home. So no one would think this store was in danger of getting held up and therefore they won't give it a security system which might cost more than the value of all the items in the store.

    • @kenyattaclay7666
      @kenyattaclay7666 ปีที่แล้ว

      By 1992 VCRs had dropped significantly. They were around $1000 ten years earlier but you could get them for around $120 & often times they'd be on sale for around $80 in 1992. I remember back in 1991 right before I was heading off to college my VCR bork so I took it to a repair shop and they were going to try and charge $70 to fix it but Montgomery Wards had some on sale for $99 so I just got a new one.
      As far as security cameras, depending on where you were they weren't that uncommon nor was it just for high priced items. There were a bunch of crimes that were either solved, featured on shows like Unsolved Mysteries or where the criminal took the tape so that they couldn't be identified in the late 80 & early 90's because of video tape. If you watch the movie Menace II Society O Dog stealing the tape from the liquor store & him watching himself murdering the owner is a key part of the movie.
      However in small southern towns at this time having a video system would be hit or miss so them not having a security system would have more to do with them being in a small town and feeling safe.

      @@iKvetch558 - Prioritizing... Nice! :))
      I was baffled that they didn't get the initial arrest miscommunication right away, or the HILARIOUS miscommunication scene between Pesci and the kid in the cell...
      But I started the face palms when the driver explained why the boys weren't being housed in the county jail, and then watched them verbally try to figure out why they took them to the state pen. I was going to comment, but it just never stopped. Unlike you, I just couldn't pic one.
      To be fair, I was a bit surprised that she picked out Fred Gwyn as the original Herman Munster. Point scored!😂

      @@_Common_Logic_ Part of it is that I have watched at least a dozen reactions to Vinny, so I have seen a good portion of them make most of the same mistakes, so I am not as quick to jump to the keyboard for the more commonly made errors.👍

    • @_Common_Logic_
      @_Common_Logic_ ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I was expecting them to mess that one up. I grew up with at LEAST 3 uncle Vinnys, and more than a few Mona Lisas, Lisa-Maries, etc., so I'm pretty used to the lingo and the look.
      One of my uncle "Vinny's" arrested a guy in a Chicago club back in the late '70s... The guy turned out to be an off duty (or plain clothed) cop... My uncle... NOT A COP😆 We used to choose our own Christmas gifts from the trunk of his Caddy. Usually, the newest of electronics that "fell off the truck". I guess he knew a guy. Haha.
      The over animation, and relentless sarcasm and banter... Brings me back to my yute.

  • @SYLTales

    One of the things that was bothering you about Vinny was that he initially seemed to be useless. However, criminal prosecutions come in three phases:
    1. Arraignment: the accused pleads guilty or not guilty.
    2. Then there's a hearing where the prosecution produces evidence/witnesses to prove there's adequate evidence for a trial.
    3. Then the trial.
    Vinny screwed up the arraignment.
    There were no questions to ask in the second phase, that's entirely on the prosecution.
    Between the time that witnesses are produced and the trial, the defense does an investigation to determine if the witnesses and evidence can be impuned or disproven. This is entirely on the defense, because the police work for the prosecution. Vinny did an adequate investigation.
    It's only at the trial that the defense attorney gets to shine, which Vinny did.

    1: he said it's 100% going to trial
    2: if it didnt make it to trial that means there wasn't enough evidence against them to go to trial.
    3: he said there's no way it's not going to trial meaning no matter what he did it didn't matter since there was no way he could keep it from going to trial

      It actually depends on the state. California & New York (Where Vinnie was from) natorously have the hardest bar exams & people have to take it several times. JFK Jr. had to take it three times & he wasn't working fulltime & had all kinds of help unlike Vinnie. I also remember reading a story about a man in California who had to take it 10 times before he passed. Then there are states like Montana & the Dakota's that have nearly a 100% pass rate the very first time.

      And dont forget guitar legend Steve Vai in the guitar showdown scene. Steve is playing a red, USA made, Jackson Soloist in the scene. They had Jackson Guitars make 2 identical guitars for Steve to play in the scene, because his character throws down the guitar and it was supposed to break. So they wanted a backup guitar just in case they had to re-shoot something later. The Jackson he uses in the scene did not break. They re-shot that part a few times with Steve throwing it down harder each time. It still didnt break. They tried it with the backup guitar. Built like a tank! Nothing happened. They sure don't make them like they used to!!

      Back in the day, there was a lot of respect for people from Brooklyn/Queens. Wasn't about race. Was about where you from, that's your people no matter what.

    If either of you would take the time to watch this flick separately and or together without talking while the actors and actresses are talking you will understand and love this flick a whole lot more. Ask yourself one question. If you ever trying to listen to somebody and a couple of people would be talking at the same time, well let's just say, how much would you like and appreciate that You wouldn't. Seen the movie years ago without anybody freezing the picture and without anybody else talking besides the actors and the actresses and man what a difference. Try it and you will see what I mean. Adios.

    Hey, I use to have nothing against Deer till I moved into a subdivision where they are all my flowers & charged at me all around me walking down the sidewalk. Now….can’t stand those things!
