A quote from one of our presidents, "I can make a General in 5 minutes. It takes a long time to make a good horse." A. Lincoln knew something about horses. I quote my dear grandmother who grew up in the mule, & wagon days of Texas, "Boys are like mules. You have to keep them busy or they get into trouble." I didn't know that my grandmother knew so much about boys.

I would love to have had you to learn from many years ago when I was learning. I no longer have horses (am 72 and have some disabilities, or I would). I learned so much from trial and error, lots of errors, beginning with my first horse when I was a teenager. I was lucky enough to be able to think like my horses. You are fantastic Steve, and such a pleasure to watch as you love what you do, and do it so well. Onward and upward!

What a lovely, lovely horse, such unusual coloring, the bi-color mane, the dapples, and, oh, that peachy pink nose! Lovely head, too, I'd have fallen for him like a ton of bricks! You are right, he was hardly lame at all when you took him back to the stable for his gin-&-tonic! The movement worked the kinks out, just like with us, wher we need a couple of steps to get the bones moving! And he was so calm & lovely walking down the grassy alleyway, clearly thinking, "I don't need to worry about anything here, that's Steve's job, he's the leader & he'll do the looking out & tell me what to do if there's a problem."

Have to say never thought that hand feeding horses with treats would cause behavioural problems. My own pony used to come up to the fence outside our kitchen window (approx 6pm every night) and whinny for our attention. We would say his name and he whinnied back. He knew his name. We would give him veggies ends instead of throwing them out cleaned of course, and fruit as a treat. He was great with apple cores so they were never wasted. He loved his healthy veggie/fruit diet. A good bit of hand feeding. Just a way to bond with him.

It's a very bad habit to teach, especially to youngsters who should be learning that they should respect the space of those with authority. It was a tough lesson for her to learn that I didn't allow that after a whole year and a half of learning throughout her developmental stages that it was ok.

one of the hardest bad 'habits' to change in a horse, is a horse that has decided that his person is NOT the boss. because no amount of change in the horse's behavior will make it work, without the person has to become a different owner who the horse will respect.

Beautiful horse. Looks like he has some founder, big crest on neck and tenderfooted, might be in some pain. Good work Steve.

Cresty, overweight, pads on the front feet, all signs of founder. I’m sure that’s why Amy needs to be able to exercise him. I wish them the best!

I love how You understate his expressions. "His expression's not great" as the horse is serving up insults and degrading language to You. On a web forum he'd be blocked for saying all that. 😂 Ignoring unwanted objections and make him move until the penny drops and he's changed opinion to "UhKay, this is unwanted here, uhkay.." ❤

You're working him for his own good...all vets know that sometimes you have to hurt a little to help alot....you do what you have to do for their own good..

I love seeing and hearing the care Tanya has for Steve and how Steve is always responsive to Tanya's input. Its quite a wholesome partnership.
Makes you wonder if Eli was making himself lame with all his shenanagins hopping and stomping into her space...causing him to get less exercise and the few times he does get exercise, then his jumping around could have been causing his pain. The more he worked quietly, it helped him to have a more gentle and effectice exercise.

Use to live in Wellington FL.Super properties there for horse lovers, Ocala too. Very horsey areas. Going to take months for the hurricane clean up too. So sad. Nice horse, needed to know the lawyer is boss! Great video.

Haven't watched enuf vids to know in you fixed it, but in many you need a simple WIND SCREEN or WIND MUFF for your lavalier mic... just a fluffy piece of porus material that fits over the mic head to stop the wind noise.
