Every time I see a horse shift from scared to starting to consider with "two eyes" I get teary. The skill involved in getting them to that point represents the best connection a human can have with an animal. It's amazing how Steve works with horses and how he and Tanya work as a team to support so many of them.
25:04 it’s like he is working through multiple confusion layers and trying to guess what you want, it is lovely to feel his panic ease. This is horse therapy, one horse heart/spirit at a time.
Watching Steve is like watching a magician that knows exactly what to do to call him a horse. It’s just amazing to me Bless you and thank you Steve for the power you have in your hands and in your mouth❤❤😊
Watching Steve is like watching a magician that knows exactly what to do to call him a horse. It’s just amazing to me Bless you and thank you Steve for the power you have in your hands and in your mouth❤❤😊
This has become my very favorite TH-cam channel! I love the transformations & the way Steve approaches the training of all these horses. I also appreciate the constant explanation of everything that’s happening. Thank you!
Horse skills definitely carry over to dog skills. I used skills learned when I earned money walking two hot polo ponies on my sisters dogs. After the Thanksgiving meal, I offered to take her two adult Airedales for a walk and we will go out through the garage. As I exited, I could hear my sister and mom laughing, that I would not be able to control the dogs. Yep! The pups lacked manners! We spent close to 15 minutes in the garage, in the tight space between the cars. We had some ‘discussions’ and there were a few ‘toe taps’, similar to Steve’s ‘Boinging Stick’. I worked on them focusing on me, taking one step forward, one step back and just stand. When I had their full focus on me, we calmly walked out of the garage and down the street. We had a lovely 45 minute lesson and walk. When I got back to the house, everyone was in the living room looking out, expecting my arms to be much longer, both dog leashes wrapped around me and the pups taking me for a walk! The pups and I stopped and they calmly waited while I gave the ‘spectators’ a cheezie grin. We walked back in through the garage and the pups waited on the rug until I gave them the signal of release. They calmly walked over to their rugs and laid down. My sister wanted to know what I did to her dogs! I smiled and replied “we went for a walk”.
Skip to the 17:45 mark, if you just want to watch the actual work with the horse 😉 I’ve been on a horse less than 5 times in my life, have never and will never own a horse, but I love watching these videos. It’s so beautiful to watch Steve try to understand the horses and find out what they need in order to be happy, instead of dominating them like some trainers.
Took me 3 weeks to catch my nervous, injured, 3 y o TB! She got to the point where, whenever I tried to LEAVE her paddock, she would very skillfully catch the backs of my shoes with her toes, preventing me from moving my foot, then she would shove her shoulder in front of me, blocking my path, and finally she would envelope me with her head and neck! 😂😅 She would tickle my 3 y o daughter's neck until she was a hysterical laughing mess on the floor. She was HUGE, yet so skillfully gentle. I know Steve would NOT approve, what she got away with, in my company! But I adored her! Yes, I rode her - totally her choice, she would stand conveniently near a fence, I'd slide on and we'd go for a blast around the paddock. She would go left/right, depending on where I was leaning, and at a pace I would demand using voice, and degree of my body relaxation.
I loved her, so much it hurt.... A "friend" begged/demanded me to sell my mare to her.... after 18 months of begging, to nurture our "friendship" I finally relented.... within 18 months my beautiful mare was dead 😢
Every time I watch one of your videos I say to myself where were you when I had my horses. I'm now 72 and no longer have horses except by watching your amazing videos. I cry through half of them because I can feel the connection between you and the horses. You are so lucky to have someone like Tanya that supports you in this endeavor. I can tell just by the way she talks that she loves the horses as much as you do. What a treat it is for viewers and for the horses to have you guys. I can't tell you how much I appreciate watching something positive on TH-cam with so much negativity in the world. Watching from America, a lifetime horse lover! Please post a group of follow up videos. Would love to see the long term progress of some of the most difficult challenges!
Your love and understanding of horses combined with your tenderness and patience is so palpable. And your ability to “firm up” with no anger on top of that. You don’t fear them. It’s no wonder that you are so effective with even the most difficult challenging horses. I find your way with horses to be such an inspiration for me.
great work to teach trust in both horse and handler. All good things these lessons keyed to cues from the horse and cues understood to move the horse forward. Love these teaching moments. Thank you
Same here ...I have been using steves methods on my cat ...lol the cat was diagnosed with a neurological disorder a few months ago... otherwise a perfectly healthy cat.... and his methods are really working to help the cat... go figure...lol
He is such a lovely horse, I'm happy to see his fear and anxiety going away. Absolutely wonderful to see how much more confidant she is now and able to approach him, and Dylan trusting her.
What a lovely horse. Not a bad cell in him, and so attentive. His ears forward all the time and wants to learn. His owner so right to have faith in him, and he's found the right person to teach him trust. Another great video. And thankyou Tanya for catching all the nuances. xx
oh Steve. I know I have said this before & I'm gonna say it again...💜the world needs more people like you & yours in it!!💜😭I cried big tears of relief of stress, joy, a new life on the way, just know i cried big tears when this horse reached out to you!!😭I know these feelings cuz I have rescued dogs though out my whole life & every little bit these animals give to you is a HUGE step for them💜THANK YOU AGAIN!!! 🙏May God Bless You & Your Family Always!!🙏
Being a natural horsemanship fan for decades, and having trained my own horses the cowboy way many many years ago, I can watch Steve and see all the trainers that have influenced his training method. I really like the way he thinks about the horse, and I have tried to imitate him now with my own horses, it’s cool to watch how they respond. He is one of the greats. Thank you for your videos and giving us horse people just another method to communicate with our best horse friends! From South Eastern Washington State, USA, thank you Steve! Happy trails❤❤❤
Happy trails to Dylan and Lisa! Steve is definitely is "one of the greats". Very inspiring! And, thanks Tanya too for being such a great partner and always so supportive and encouraging to the handlers /owners in the yards. She's also great with the camera angels so we can all really see the learrrnin' ! Brilliant.
Brilliant VLOG … Dylan looked to be a beautiful little Welsh horse … in great shape. I realized it was an older VLOG being re-released, when you said you’d been at this making VLOGs for a better part of a year. I tell you, if someone watching this didn’t shed a tear or two of happiness when Lisa was able to do what she did, they must be totally void of emotion. Such a happy ending indeed. I’m not sure how long ago this was from present day but it would be nice to know how successful she was in bringing Dylan (and his sister) around … and being able to incorporate him and her, into the riding school. Must be such a nice feeling to provide break throughs for horse and owner, whereby they can move forward into unchartered territories, with quality and safely. I always love watching your VLOGs and I must say you’ve come a long ways yourselves. Think of all you’re doing now in comparison to what you did then … and how many people you’ve helped over the years. So many grateful people thankful for having the opportunity you provided for them to get past whatever hurdle they had and then enjoy their lives to the fullest … together. Thanks again for sharing! As always, looking forward to the next VLOG. Happy Trails! 🙏🙌✝️❤️🇨🇦
Excellent job to you both! He actually thought for a minute, hey, these people aren't as mean as the others were ! So glad she gave in, too, all feels so much better. Love it 💜
Needed the tissues again at the end. Happy tears! I also can’t believe you got your friends’s dog to stop pulling so quickly (from what Tanya said). Amazing!
You make it look so easy! You've changed lives here, with this beautifully-natured horse and with Lisa and her daughter. What a gift you have, Steve. Thank you for sharing it with the animals, the people and us!
You guys are so awesome!!! I have always loved horses. I used to draw them when I was a kid and I now live on a property where I could own one, but I’m a single mom with an autistic child and I don’t have the time for the finances but you never know maybe one day! For now I keep watching your videos and I feel like if I ever do have the wonderful opportunity to have my own horse I have a little leg up because of you. ❤
beautiful to see it happen second by second how Steve and the horse are communicating. Steve is giving this horse a chance to have a good life! Thank you Steve!!
Another amazing success story! Thank you once again for your love of horses AND their owners. The compassion that you and Tanya display is inspiring! Thank you for sharing!
Great video, I love the picture when his mouth is in your hand for a minute, so peaceful and love between Dylon and you, touched my heart and I had tears in my eys. Thanks for sharing this wonderful moments with us, you make my day. Greets from germany for you and your lovely wife, bin hugs ❤❤❤❤
Beautiful video, Steve and Tanya! Your work with horses is amazing and so needed. Thank you so much for making such a huge difference in the lives of these horses and their owners.
Absolutely love this family! I have learned so much from Steve! Absolutely love Tanya and family! I have recently found a Chanel by the name of clever cowgirl and she is a lot like Steve and the way he trains absolutely amazing lady! She loves her horses and helping horses In need!! 💥💥💥
I really like her channel as well. Wish we'd had all these great trainers available so easily when I was growing up - in my 70s now. Was lucky to have had an older Polish man who trained Lipizzans before WW1 help me rescue and train a feral horse and taught me totally different methods than what I learned growing up on a Texas ranch. When he died, I kept seeking others who did things more like he did so found Ray Hunt and attended multiple clinics with Buck Brannaman. They helped me developedeeper connections with my own horses and take rodeo and ranch horses and turn them into therapists in an equine assisted therapy program. Now I love watching these younger trainers and continue to learn different approaches with different horses and issues even if the basic principles are the same. And I am so happy TH-cam makes it possible for so many to learn how to build these relationships.
Fabulous video Steve, You know animals of all kinds can sense a persons emotions. Especially fear and hate. That is what makes you special. You show nothing but love for the animal and they sense that. They may not trust you but they give you a chance. That is the difference and you never fail to gain their trust. Trust is something that is earn no given. Love the videos!
Beautiful, high vibe sentiment. There's always going to be people that see everything as negative, it's good you don't engage with that. Love your channel, thank you, I've learned so much. 60 year old American female here, just getting back into horses for the love ❤ of them🙏🕊️
Use patience. Allow it to get to know you. That he can trust you. Feed him, talk to him, be understanding. Let him decide to give in. I did this with an abused mare I got. It took a while, but once she knew I was a friend, she gave in 100%. A beautiful sensesble girl.
A large part of his patience is due to knowledge. Knowing what technique to apply, when to apply it, how much to apply, etc. allows the handler to relax and wait for the horse to respond. We would all be better horse handlers if we could apprentice ourselves to a horseman such as this for a year or two.
Oh Steve, your empathy for this beautiful boy just oozed out in this video. I could literally feel the warmth, love and calm through the screen. Beautiful work, Dylan is just gorgeous. 🫶🏻🙌🏼 Edit: when you were holding the head collar with your back to him, Dylan was watching you with such interest, dipping his nose with your movements like he wanted you to put it on him. That was so sweet.
I loved the whole video. I want you both to know, I had a cup of tea and gingersnaps with my time with you. hello from Arizona. I hope to see you soon. Bless you both.
I truly loved this! ❤ You are sooo patient, Steve! And Tanya as well to be able to film until the very end. And this also holds true in every video you do! And with that sweet dog...what can I say?! I think I will look at you as being another Dr. Doolittle! Hopefully, you all know who he is. It's a great movie about a man that could talk to the animals! Lol Thanks so much for your wonderful content! I appreciate you's! Big Hugs 🐎 Suzy
Yes, I do learn some dog training from Steve's horse training. Tanya, I have a young (now 2 year old) Springer Spaniel that I got from a wonderful Breeder as a pup. We adore her!!!!! She is fearless and can scare a huge German Shepherd away and at other times frightful of stupid stuff such as a new handbag. Would love Steve to do a video on how to help. Yes, I know it's important to desensitize. I get through one thing to face another. If this keeps up, you need to come to Virginia. We do have a senior male Golden Retriever who is her leader and best mate. He is a huge help, but I understand we need to separate them. Wonder what Steve thinks.
I work with ladies who have lost confidence in the saddle. I've come across 2 horses that turned their butt to the owner in the stable. I used your method and they are both lovely to catch and halter now. Thank you! Mercia
I know nothing about horses, but after watching your videos, I want to try and train a horse. LOL I have never in my life owned one and probably have ridden less then 10 times total in my life.
I really appreciate seeing you also work with his owner. You make it look so easy but watching the videos and actually working with a horse or two very different things! A lovely horse, and I hope he is continuing to do well! ❤
Absolutely Amazing!!! So many teachings in one video. The hand movement and placement of hands patiently was a great to learn. Even a seasoned horse would appreciate the slow movement BUILDING TRUST. Thank you to all!!! Dillon is a great horse now, his future looks awesome!
I Really learn so much watching you work Steve and Tanya. You both love what you achieve and so enjoy doing what you do. Amazing. Thank you for sharing 💕
--Steve and Tanya, one of your best videos ever ... the test of a good book is one where you can go back through it again and again, and learn something new ... the same with this video, loads of learning, well done.
A tuff horse 🐴 to crack, didn't think he would let you near him he slowly getting there, poor horse 🐴 don't realise how much it can help him, the owner gets electric ⚡ shocks when she touches certain things I'm the same only got to touch something metal & a electric ⚡ shocks go up my arms,I can't have a tumble dryer for that reason, it's amazing to watch you work Steve with these horses,he's not running around like he was so that's a good thing,🐴💙🐴⚡🐴💙🐴⚡🐴💙🐴🥰😊

It was lovely seeing this again. It never seems to amaze me how quickly he caught on.

That commercial stable must be one of the neatest and tidiest I've seen. Everything looks in good order.

It never fails that the owners wonder what you did to their dog, animals. I always said, RESPECT.
I fucking hate when owners don't discipline their dogs. Literally it's that simple

It is so funny he can't remember any names 😂. Steve just feels the horses, so wonderful ❤
It really amazes me how you read the horses (and other creatures) and get them to learn you can be trusted.
Among his MANY WONDERFUL QUALITIES -Steve is such a good sport!

What a beautifull horse
This was a great video to watch again, thank you! 🇨🇦🥰Sharon.

I really like her channel as well.

well that was wonderful I felt emotional and delighted. I know the video is dated but it still, it was awesome help for Dillon and his handlers.
Steve you have the patience of a saint , you and Tanya are The Dream Team ......Another great video and learning lesson for all ❤
Use patience. Allow it to get to know you. That he can trust you. Feed him, talk to him, be understanding.

Hi from near Taunton, another interesting job 🤗💯👏🫶👍🍺
Dillon changed his tune so honestly. That was really great. Hes gonna show himself now. Seems like a super great guy.
I work with ladies who have lost confidence in the saddle. I've come across 2 horses that turned their butt to the owner in the stable. I used your method and they are both lovely to catch and halter now. Thank you! Mercia
This was such a treat, Steve!!
I know nothing about horses, but after watching your videos, I want to try and train a horse. LOL I have never in my life owned one and probably have ridden less then 10 times total in my life.
I've only ridden a few more times than that but I'm totally with you! And I've never even owned a poodle 😄
😅
@@rosewhite9851 LOL You are missing out then. LOL
@@poodleladylady5686 🤣🤣🤣
Thanks!
Glad to see you are getting more subs. You are such a great horseman.
Well well done Lisa!
Amazing work Steve.
I Really learn so much watching you work Steve and Tanya. You both love what you achieve and so enjoy doing what you do. Amazing. Thank you for sharing 💕
Great work with that dog, j.k.. You have a gift and put it to good use which by all purposes makes your job not so, much like work.❤️✌️
Thank you Cowboy and Tanya!! Happy Birthday Cowboy❤
I love your videos, you are assertive but kind and patient. I have learnt so much about animal leadership from you❤
I think I needed your patience , compassion ,integrity leadership and grace as much as Dillon ❣️Thank you for another stellar vid.
--Steve and Tanya, one of your best videos ever ... the test of a good book is one where you can go back through it again and again, and learn something new ... the same with this video, loads of learning, well done.
Wonderful lessons 👌
Thank you Steve!! I love watching these videos. Horse behavior is so interesting. Getting a horse to come around to what we want is fascinating.
Another very helpful video! Regardless of whether it is new or old it is still helpful and appreciated!
Cornwall looks fabulous. Enjoy Tanya's little asides! Another great video❤
There'll always be negative nancys, thanks for sharing your work Steve really enjoy the videos! 😊

I loved seeing the change and how nicely you achieved it
Awesome… simply awesome… magical!
Great job with the mule and that is a beautiful bike!
