- The Mesopotamians and ancient Egyptians were the first to domesticate cats. Since these cultures were dependent on agriculture, the enemies of their livelihood were the animals that ate their crops.
- Since Egyptians thought of cats so highly, they accessorized their pets with jewels. The richer and more aristocratic the owner, the bigger the jeweled collar their cat wore.
- In ancient Egypt, anyone found guilty of killing a cat, even accidentally, was sentenced to death.

- In Slavic mythology, it was believed that a barn cat named Ovinnik was the protector of crops and livestock.
- It was only around the Middle Ages when cat folklore turned dark. During this time, cats were thought to be accomplices of witches and black magic.
- You’ve likely heard about the knack cats have for always landing on their feet no matter how far they fall. This is called a “righting reflex,”
- Cats can’t taste sweet foods, but they do have an extra organ that allows them to taste scents in the air. Apparently, that’s why they stare at you sometimes with their mouths open!
- Cats have outstanding balance that’s only made better by their long tails.
- Cats are carnivores, which (aside from cleaning themselves) is why they have that rough sandpaper tongue. It’s supposed to help them clean every last morsel of flesh from an animal bone.
- Cats can drink seawater. Unlike humans, cats have kidneys that can filter out the salt from seawater.
- The ridges on a cat’s noses are like fingerprints for people. That means that no two kitty noses are exactly alike!

My cat learned how to unlock and open doors, so there has been a few times where someone comes over and is allergic to cats and he has to be locked in my room except I have to put a stick under the door handle from the outside to lock it in place so he can’t open it if he unlocks it Lolol. His name is Elmo. He also loves to bite off little chunks of my hair of when I’m not looking, drown my hair ties in his water bowl, and chew on certain types of plastic. (Like the plastic baby wipes come in) his favorite foods are the meat from Taco Bell and turkey but he always gets a little bit of whatever meat I’m eating. I love him more than anything in the world. He’s so lovable and always wants to be held and pet but he does get in moods where he wants to be alone sometimes too. He’s an amazing boy and I tell him every day how much I love and appreciate him.

I heard cats have a fear of locked doors because they don’t know if the person behind it is okay, even if they see you come out fine. Or they are intrigued because it’s a closed door.
My cat is now 7 months he has not looked older yet, he knows how to open backyard window frame door and even climbed up to the top and jumped down! He leaves it open and never closes it back.

I found most interesting that cats can find their way home easily. We have two beautiful kitty's that were feral and now have a loving, forever home with us. They bring us so much happiness
Yall, so almost 2 years ago, we found my cat under a truck, and decided to take her in. We named her Sophia, and that Friday, we went to the vet to give her a checkup, and she also had a bump on her side...turns out, it was a bullet. My cat survived a gunshot.

I’m not a cat person, or a dog person, I love all animals. Right now I have 4 cats and a dog. Our 9yr old cat suddenly and 100% unexpectedly passed away. He was the youngest of the 3 we had, and our dogs friends. A couple months later I decided to get two kittens, I had never had 2 at the same time. They are crazy… the tabby has become friends with our dog, and itty bitty (she is a year old and weighs just over 4lbs) is sweet, sassy, and likes terrorizing the dog. The older cats set the boundaries and the kittens have obeyed so everything worked out.

I just got my first black kitty last year, she is silky looking short hair and she moves like a ninja!!! Her eyes are a greenish yellow and she is named Witchy Wendy (Wendy for short). I adopted her and her brother (who is now a huge orange tabby) named Peter Pumpkin Pan (Peter for short). Wendy is very different from her brother and I love having a lean sleek panther running around my house! You can pet either of them anytime if you live in the Jefferson City, MO area!!!
