Got this kit for my 10th birthday in 1975, along with the AMT Fruehauf Watkins trailer kit. My master model builder older brother took about 6 months to build them in his spare time. They sat on my dresser until I got married in 1987.
Great job building the truck. I've built many of amt's model back in the 80's. I do miss it and trying to get back into it. For now I'll watch you guys build them.
In orange it reminds me of the International Transtar II I'm working on in Schneider Transport colors. (With the numbers my Dad's truck had when he drove for them. Normally I build planes but the International and the K100 Aerodyne (yes, in the red Salem scheme with the BJ and the Bear decals!) have been fun and I will be building more. (I have the 350 Pay Hauler coming from Amazon!) Listening to your reviews takes me back to my youth. My friends and I would sit around playing D&D on Sunday afternoons while listening to the previous weeks Dr. Demento show that we would record. (Funny enough, we never did play a single game as we would end up just goofing off and singing.) I think you could nail a Dr. Demento impression without too much work! Keep the great reviews coming!
Thanks JP, It's been told that I'm a little over the top when it comes to modelling so maybe your right. But I might just be the lunatic you're lookin' for so that's my story and I'm stickin' with it. Thanks for sharing! -Doug
I just bought this kit, and found your build video. Now im hooked on your channel, and have been watching your channel. Thank you Doug your videos keep thinking about building while im getting chemo. Keep building.
99% of what comes from Round2 (ie AMT, MPC, ect) is exactly that.....old reboxed kits. One particular one to be careful of is the "Country Charger" kit.....its just a rebox of the AMT/MPC General Lee kit.......the worst kit known to man
We'll probably see more and more of that type thing or less and less considering Revell went insolvent and released it's molds to Revell Germany and Hobbico USA. This link is the entire "unfortunate" American modeling story! en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revell#The_Kustom_1960s
Nice review! I am excited to get to this kit I got it Christmas 2019, its in my hopper to eventually get to. I am going with Oliver green with flat gray and flat black designs, finishing off with a high gloss topcoat. The frame will be Massey Harris red, have not figured out if I want to make an attempt to stretch the frame or not.
CT, That sounds like a great color combination and a neat project. Have fun and thanks! PS, please subscribe if you haven't already to help us reach more modelers. -Doug
The engine looked really nice. You can tell that the mold mating surfaces were reworked as the small tubular parts looked to have gotten even smaller. Good job overall:-) looks as if the doors could have been opened if you wanted. The duels fit together nice and tight without that wobbly looking gap that most models seem to suffer from. I liked the truck and thought the color fit great. Another fine model Mr Doug! :-)
Thx so much for the kit review! I just brought this kit home today from Hobby Lobby- can't wait to start construction! I just finished the Revell Peterbilt 359 conventional, the similar kit to this. I had wheel issues similar to what you experienced, as well as minor fit issues with the hood meeting the cab- chalk it up to an older mold I guess- still, a stunning kit! Keep the great kits coming!
Got this kit and matching orange trailer kits in my stash. Bought some chains and air brake lines too. Hint on the 5th wheel, use some KY and let it dry then use some flat black to make it worn . You can just glue the chains anywhere back back up near the cab. Can even remember where I got the chains and brake lines but they are to scale and correct colors.
Another old kit that I like Doug I plan on getting this kit with the matching trailer the one kit I am looking for is the ertl international harvester transtar eagle 2 that's one of my favorites from the old kits it builds up nicely I had it when it first came out now I am looking for one I wish they would do more in the way of 1/16 scale tractor trailers tho especially some cabovers With regard Dennis Bisconti
Very nice video and great how-to. started this year again with the hobby and bought a stash of 38 trucks/trailers :D there are some very nice vintage trucks (AMT, ETRL and Matchbox) with it that I don't dare to touch yet. I'm learning to airbrush and doing that with some more common kits that I don't mind to screw up :P This is a great channel for me to see how to build them. Thanks for taking the time for making these kind of videos and help others with this great hobby :)
All, No. Level 5 was a Revell of Germany skill desiganation that Revell USA didn't adopt until around 2016. PS, please subscribe if you haven't already to help us reach more modelers. -Doug
@@RightOnReplicas Always enjoy your videos Doug! My own Freightliner is hold right now tying to figure out the best way, to turn those double headlights into to singles for a CF rig.... Getting the cab smooth as well is a pain in the tailpipe, it'll be calling to put on some rivet decals when done....
The image of the engine side at 4:24 shows double oil filters glued to the upper side, they do NOT go there they go on the lower side of the engine block, get it right!! I should know I've built several of the AMT big rig tractors.
That build was near perfect to a real Kenworth. I see one real mistake the handle on the driver's side you called grab handles on the top is too far back it goes over the door for the driver to use.
Can I get your email I believe we had chit chatted a while back I finally got some pictures of my collection I'm trying to sell my 1/25 scale tractors and trailer Met in the Box I'd like to get those pictures to you now
Built this kit when it was new. That means I’ve been around for awhile also. Good job Doug.
Chris, You're only as old as your next build! -Doug
I did to back in the early 70s mine had torsion bars
I think this might be the only amt semi truck I haven't built. I need to fix that.
Well done truck model build,
I really like these cabover truck's.
John, Glad you like them! Thanks for watching and please subscribe if you haven't already to help us reach more modelers! -Doug

built this truck twice, I really like it.

Good work on a "painful" kit!
I'll like to see more of the European trucks from Revell or maybe from Italeri. KUTGW!
PM, thanks for the suggestions! -Doug
i love the way some of these companies put the same old kits in new boxes and call them new kits
AMT is NOTORIOUS FOR THAT !!

Amt isn't what it used to be... Got a question, any problems with radiator mounting ? Seems a little close to cab pivots
Ryan, Not too bad but test fitting and a sand stick helps! -Doug

TC, I think that was Tamiya TS-31 Bright Orange! -Doug
