Imagine being a game developer for that 6-month game and getting frustrated trying to code it and your boss complaining your taking too long and working late some days, missing family events, just to have all your hard work thrown in the trash in 6 months, to never be played again.

Congrats on your success Mike! I agree that the best strat is to go through the early levels to collect the extra lives and continues for the endgame, rather than warping with the rocket. If you ever come back to this game, there is a warp at the beginning of Level 6 by jumping down into Level 4. Takes you to Level 8. This lets you play the easier early levels *and* skip the difficult parts of Level 6 and 7.
Yeah attemping to beat it with that route. Finally after playing a save state at the final boss for 2.5 hours I figured out what I was doing wrong. Have to beat the living crap out of the action button to get it blue near that top right hand corner. Trying to beat it legit now. Boss was my one hang up where I had two continues left at the final boss this morning.
Need to beat this legit. Seen this game in the early 90s at a friend of my fathers' place just on an acreage outside of grand prairie about 4 or 5 hours from where we lived at the time. Was so intreaged.
I didn't even think this was beatable as a kid. I remember an older kid down the street got to the last level ONE time and we were just convinced it wasnt even possible to beat.
Oh the sheer frustration and emotion shown here with the final climb of stage 10 is something my ten year old self relates to. I reached the very end, but I could never finish off that last big foot like you did. Well done!
Played and loved it as a child and still have the cartridge somewhere. Looking at it now, as an adult and owning two actual snakes, the game elements are 90% less random, whoever designed it knew about snakes, and I'm 100% certain this is how one of my corn snakes sees the world and himself in the middle of it. Despite the cover art and snake portraits, I'm also certain the snakes are inspired by egg-eating snakes. Evidence #1: egg-eating snakes eat eggs (say what.), and those balls are closer to eggs than rodents, birds, or small amphibians. Evidence #2: egg-eating snakes swallow eggs whole, crack them inside, and spit out the shell. They don't have teeth, though, but to be fair, a cover with a cute, toothless snake wouldn't look very epic and dramatic.
"GET UP THERE YOU SON OF A B****, YOU SON OF A B****!!" You recaptured the feeling of the 90s NES experience. Could I suggest you do a Blaster Master playthrough?

Cobra triangle is one of the best games on the NES and the first game I got for the NES and I clocked it before my mates so im so proud of myself because we all were in competition with each other who can Finnish what games first ...those were the days

Congrats on beating this one, very tough but still fun game. I still love to play this just about any day. You should definitely check out Cobra Triangle. I think Rare is probably the number 1 developer when it comes to hard games on the NES, it's just that their games were more obscure than Konami, Capcom, Sunsoft etc so they aren't really recognized for it. Solar Jetman, Super Glove Ball, Time Lord and a lot more are very hard as well. Even their games which aren't that hard overall often have some frustrating parts, like Judge Doom from Roger Rabbit or the obstacle course from Double Dare.
@@mikematei Cobra Triangle is a cool game, starts off deceitfully easy but gets crazy later on. Learning how the upgrade system works and planning ahead with it is important. You can farm for upgrades in the first level since that always has a reappearing 1-up which helped make it a bit easier for me to beat it, but still doesn't help in the later stages. Judge Doom fight is obnoxious yeah, it really seems like whoever designed it didn't want people to beat it at all. Also I haven't watched the full video yet, so i don't know if you know but one really neat thing about Snake Rattle 'n' Roll is that the whole thing is designed to be a big mountain. Look up Snake Rattle N Roll Atlas on youtube, it's really cool.

Even if your smashing the crap out of the action button on the final boss if the titming is slightly off the ice foot will not turn blue right away and you want to reset to the spot of near the spot where mike is. I parked myself just left of the foot in the top right corner and let the ice foot jump one more time, seemed slightly easier to time. At least for me. Need mad skills to kill that prick of a boss.
Also pro tip if your mashing the controller you can pause the game and let your them rest then smash the attack button while the pause screen is still up then unpause the game while still smashing the attack button. FInal boss tip.

That final ice level is one of the hardest levels in video game history. It took me 20 years to finally beat it. Excellent job, Mike!

I just beat the game. I followed Mike's strat for the final boss and it works like a charm otherwise it would have taken me much longer to figure out.
