So glad I owned this hidden gem as a kid. It's brutally hard but the controls are tight as a drum and other kids would always marvel at how good the graphics were by NES standards. I finally beat that dam final foot as an adult and it felt like a demon of my childhood had finally been exorcised.
Me and my sister used to play this and Bubble Bubble a lot back on the NES. To this day, I still don't know how I managed to actually beat this game as a kid!
I know some NES specifications, and this game is just a piece of art for NES. The diversity of levels, enemies, colors... The speed, the 3D effect and scrolling horizontally and vertically so smooth. Just perfect!
Loved the video, one of my absolute favorite NES games! You missed one secret, at the end of level 8, when you come out of the water, if you don't go to the door and instead head to the right, there's a carpet (like the ones in level 5), it'll take you back down and there's another swimming section with nothing but yellow pibbleys. There may also be an extra life, hard to remember.
there are 2 extra life, one just before entering the secret pool and another inside the pol which is invisible and it's located at one of the corners to the left.
I love this channel and the deadpan humor is quite amusing. So would you kindly show us how to vanquish Bayou Billy, a very difficult game from my childhood that thwarted my every attempt to do so.
Took me forever to finally beat that one when I was a kid. I struggled for so long that once I did, I put it away and never thought about it again. It's been 30 years.
At level 8, if you jump at the end to the carpet, then you can get into the bonus with only yellow fish. Life and time will be given there, but even if you lean against one of the thorns, you can find another life bugged in the wall
Snake, Rattle N Roll was one of the best games I owned on the NES. My childhood self couldn’t get past World 6 even though he made about a bajillion attempts. It had a character and a playfulness that stood out in the early 90s. Great vid!
Oh boy, do I ever have memories of this one. I adored this game! But as a kid, I could not beat the final boss. I knew that I'd have an easier time if I could hit him faster, so I invested some money in a turbo controller. But, for some reason, the game didn't like that... it just made Rattle open his mouth and not stick his tongue out at all! So I called the Nintendo Counselors at Nintendo Power... twice... and they basically just told me to get good. I wrote a letter to the counselors, and again they basically just told me to get good. When I finally managed to "get good" enough to make it to the final boss for the umpteenth time and actually defeat him, I felt so accomplished that I cried.
Hey! I really like your channel. I've watched most of your videos. I find I come back to your Maniac Mansion analysis the most. I used to rent Maniac Mansion a lot as a kid, but I never once got a single ending...(my go-to team was Dave, Bernard, & Razor). I also like re-watching your Faxanadu & Dragon Warrior videos...both games fascinated me, but they seemed too complicated & intimidating when I was younger. Anyway, I wanted to say "Thank-You" for your MegaMan 3 walk-through. It's been a long time since I've played MM3, but your review inspired me to give it another shot. My order to defeating the bosses was 1.Magnet 2.Hard 3.Top 4.Shadow 5.Spark 6.Snake 7.Gemini 8.Needle...so it was interesting to try a different (and sometimes) easier order. I didn't know about the "password" that gives you 9 Energy Tanks at the start, or the trick to get the Rush Jet after you get Shadow Blade, so those were two immensely helpful tips! Usually, after I defeated the 8 robot bosses, I'd turn the game off because I didn't know what MM3 weapons to use on the MM2 Dark Robots & I was too lazy to put in the effort to find out. So, Thank- You for doing all the work. I'm really looking forward to when you do a MegaMan4 walk-through. I've only played the bare minimum of MM4, simply because I'm too lazy to figure out which weapons work best on each boss, but the game always looked like so much fun. This may sound weird, but I could listen to you talk all day. Your voice isn't in my face or too loud, you don't make lame jokes, you don't yell F*** every five seconds. If you get this SNL Mike Myers Coffee Talk skit reference/joke, "His voice is like buttah!" That's everything I wanted to say. I think your channel's great and I'll keep watching if you keep playing.
Awesome, I never got past the last level (the one right before the boss), so I didn't know how close I was to the end! And I really didn't know about the extra level on the Mega Drive version. Your videos are the best! Little kid me would've eaten this up, but adult me is rolling in nostalgia! Thanks again!
Nice work on this. I still have this game and played it a lot, but couldn’t remember how far I progressed through it. I was pretty sure I hadn’t finished it. After watching it I now know I was stuck on level 10.
I loved this game but it was just brutally difficult, yet again here you are making it look like a breeze. Sometimes I think you're a game branded Terminator.
I had a lot of obscure games for the NES as a kid and this was one of them! The game is so difficult. I think I only ever got to the first ice stage? Thanks for the walk down memory lane.
When I would go for beating this game, I didn’t warp, I would farm extra lives and continues in the early stages to have enough lives to finish the final ice stages.
I have so much love for this game, i owned it as a kid and played non stop, the music, the graphics, the gameplay and the fun playing with a friend was a blast!
I played it all the time at my babysitter’s house as a really young kid. I never questioned how freaking weird this game was until I heard him using all the in-game terminology

This was one of those games I played over at a friends house and within an hour it would lead to us beating the crap out of each other in real life because we suck at games XD
Well, wasn't expecting Snake Rattle n' Roll, but nice change of pace. I remember this game always being around in the background of my NES days, but I never got around to playing it. Rare did some crazy things with this game, for the hardware that is was on. It's like they sat down and said "What if we made Q*Bert but it hated the players?" After watching the vid, I know full well I can't play this game nowadays; I don't have the same amount of patience or "NES-hard skill" as our illustrious host. Excellent work as always.

Level 8: Before entering the first pool you can go around it and take a tongue extension behind the pool to the left. After the final pool, before taking the exit you can go back to the lower floor using a magic carpet that spawns over the clift to the right, if you do there is an aditional extra life and clock before entering an extra pool. On the extra pool every nibbley pibbley is yellow so there are a lot of extra points in there if someone cares about points and on the same pool, on the left side of the pool at the very corner to the bottom right there is an invisible extra life and as far as I know this is the only invisible extra life in the game.

It is super hard for sure but at the same time, it's such a wonderful video game! I grew up renting this one as a kid and the 2-player co-op was a lot of fun as well. Rare developed some of the toughest games ever made but at least they are fun, right? LOVE the music in Snake Rattle 'n Roll too. David Wise might be the GOAT as far as composers go!
