    I just received mine, and the quality is excellent. I was concerned that the paper would feel too thin, the Quentel would seem too big to comfortably hold while reading, and the concordance text would be too small, but none of these are an issue. These really are beautiful bibles. Thanks for all your reviews Tim; I watched a lot before settling on this NLT Quentel!

    I recently purchased this Bible in full yapp black pearl calfskin with blue ribbons and page edges. I'm reading it cover to cover, as I've never read this translation before. I purchased Tyndale's NLT study Bible at the same time. The cheaper Bible is so frustrating to handle compared to the supple Schuyler that I'm only using it for the little insert articles and occasionally the notes. I really prefer my Collegeville commentary to those noted. This NLT is fun to read! It's the same stories I've known for sixty years only from a fresh telling. Plus, for these aging eyes, the font used is much friendlier than so many others, including the Tyndale. I purchased this Bible after watching your review. As always, Evangelical Bible gave perfect customer service, too.

    That's a lovely Bible, indeed. It's nice to see the NLT get the respect it deserves. I'd love to see Cambridge publish a Clarion in the NLT or better yet, a vbv Topaz in the NLT.

    Can’t wait for my copy to arrive so I can dive in and read the NLT in this format. So far…my fav NLT Bible to read from is Schuyler’s single column Caxton. We are SO BLESSED to have this many choices to read God’s Word from.

    For me, the 10-point font just looks so much better on the page than the 11-point font. I think it only becomes an issue if you do not have good eyesight. A 10-point font just fits the double-column layout better like in the ESV Omega, NASB95 LPUT, and CSB VbV and LPUT.

      I agree with you completely. I have Schuyler’s NASB in the larger font and I don’t like it as much as the 10 point in the NLT. I have been buying Cambridge Bibles since I was a teenager in the 70s, and really thought they would always be my favorites. But now, owning five of these, Schuyler Bibles, They have turned into my daily readers. I don’t mark up my Bibles, and I do like the matching journals for the few notes that I take.

    Yes Tim - I AGREE with you. This NLT Quentel might be the BEST Bible from Schuyler I’ve owned yet! The 10pt Milo text font along with the book and chapter numbers make this version a beautiful work of art. Not to mention the marbled mahogany calfskin full yapp cover - a readers delight.

    Thanks for another great bible review, Tim! I just received a British Tan NLT Schuyler Quentel today, via FedEx, and it's more than impressive. I've been hoping for a premium NLT (with an 11+ font) for years. The closest, a now-retired single column Caxton, which was okay but I returned it due to font size/typeface. Honestly, I was bummed to read that Schuyler would limit the NLT font size to a 10 point, vs. the 11 point Milo (a first-gen NKJV Schuyler Quentel: Red letter; 36 GSM paper; 11 point Milo) which I currently own. The NLT takes the prize!!! It's lighter and easier to hold and read for longer periods of time. It's thinner. All the goodness you'd expect from Schuyler such as smell, touch, print and paper quality, binding, is included. Comparing my NKJV Quentel, I observe that the Schuyler NLT carries a slightly bolder font, which makes up for the 11 point size in the NKJV! The slightly darker font lends for improved reading more than I imagined. With this 10 point Milo font, the format/size allows for a slightly wider column, making this (not to mention it's an NLT translation) the best reading format to date! I'd give it an enthusiastic 5 out of 5; not feeling cheated by the 10 point!! :)

    “11 size font is almost too big” LOL!!! Come talk to me when you’re 60 yrs old and older!! Would love this Bible with a 12-14 size font for my 69 yr old eyes!!! I keep hoping….!

  • @LaLa_ArtGal
    @LaLa_ArtGal ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Mercy Buckets!! You found a unicorn!!
    I was so caught up that I didn't notice if you even said red-letter or black-letter.
    Even with the smaller font, I think my old eyes will be happy. Thanks for doing the side-by-side with an 11 pt, because what I noticed is that the black ink looks dark enough that it seems easily readable.
    This looks like it has all my favorite stuff - AND - things I hadn't even considered: those design elements!! Oh, my toes are curling over the design of those drop-caps! Using the letter instead of the chapter number is so nice, and the chapter indicator makes me so, so happy ... and I'd never even thought of those!!
    I haven't cared much about fonts, but I've noticed that with the NRSVue and its blunt, blocky letters, I felt a little disappointed. It doesn't have a "premium" look to me. So it has just been sitting in its box. THIS Bible is not a sit-in-the-box Bible; THIS Bible is a take-me-dancing Bible! 😁
    As I was getting more and more internally disheveled over the gorgeousness here, I had a jolt: Lori-Louise, that's the Bible you ordered for your birthday!! I HAVE ONE OF THESE COMING!!! I'm getting the marbled mahogany (the full yapp won out over the dark green color that I actually wanted), and when it comes we'll just SEE if I can manage to leave it in the box until December 20th. Heh. 😉
    Tim, a candidate for prettiest Schuyler: I bought a Credo Thinline Quentel NASB in Imperial Blue 🐐 from someone on one of the pages so I would have the creeds and confessions, and I wanted to spend more time in the NASB, but that one just sits in the box, too, even though it's lovely, because the NASB just doesn't land the same in my reading. So it's not the design of that Bible; it's the translation.
    Thanks for your enthusiastic review! 💛🧡❤️

    I really love the look of that NLT. I'm neither a fanboy or detractor of that translation. But, I must say, that of all of the newer "reader friendly" translations out... the NLT is good enough to me that this Bible will be on my radar for sure (especially, as you mention, if a PSQ comes along!)
    Personal Note: My favorite Schuyler color would probably be the navy blue IF the guilt was blue under silver. (Every time I look at my NASB PSQ in navy I just think... "So close to being the prettiest Bible I've ever owned." LOL)

    Schuyler have been around for a while, and they've clearly been working on refining what they offer. I think you could be right about this NLT being the best so far. It looks fantastic. The features and refinements Schuyler have put into this NLT look so special. The way they've done the chapter numbers and drop caps looks amazing, so sharp.
    The 10pt size of the text is good. I'm not disappointed, but I hope they'll still make 11pt or larger for large print editions (while they have the people from 2K Denmark on hand, they might as well do both I think? 🤷‍♂). There are people who like larger text (like me 😁), or who even need it (like my parents).
    The 11pt in my Quentel ESV lets me lay the Bible flat on a desk or table, sit back, and read. Its great for reading in groups and writing. The ESV Quentel typesetting is great as it is now. Nothing NEEDS to be done to it. But it would be SO NICE to have chapter numbers and drop caps as in the Quentel RSV and now NLT.

      The text block was almost perfect though, if they'd sell that in (not all or nothing pricing) calfsplit or buffalo they'd probably sell a million. I don't understand why they don't.

    It is a beautiful Bible! No doubt almost anything Schuyler does is gorgeous. However, my favorite NLT is actually the NLT Filament Bible (original edition) since it's single-column and since I love the layout! It looks just like the Caxton or Select but without the cross references in the margins, and I actually prefer to have mostly clean margins! So I like the NLT Filament's layout better than the Caxton or the Select. It feels like it could double as a reader's Bible and a study Bible (with the Filament app)! It's not a premium Bible, but it really does offer a lot for an affordable Bible! I really like the NLT Filament.

    @ 10:26 you made mention that Schuyler was going to set 10 Pt. Milo as their standard font and size going forward. For me with my mediocre eyesight, one of the reasons I selected the Quentel over other bibles was the 11 Pt. typeface. I know you mentioned that the existing bibles would continue to have an 11 Pt. typeface, but for me, this was one of the reasons I selected the Schuyler over, say, the Allan.

    From what I am seeing the Quentel NLT Bibles are in short supply and hard to find now. I only see 1 goatskin (not FY) and a couple calfskin Bibles (one is out of stock) options on EvangelicalBible... sad since I was looking for a Schuyler NLT hopefully in FY Goatskin (standard and not personal size). I have an NASB but just love the NLT translation. Hope they plan on producing more of these!

    Hey Tim, I'm still getting to know the NLT. Is there any good objective resource about the NLT and the work done for the translation. I guess I'm trying to figure out if this a true translation of the Bible or is it just a paraphrase, and how to tell the difference? Thank you 😊

    I've just ordered this Bible, but previous to it, the greatest Schuyler that I've held is the NKJV Credo in black goatskin, no yapp. Add the creeds to this Bible and it might supplant the Credo. Until then, it will have to remain in second place.

  • @peterman501
    @peterman501 ปีที่แล้ว

    what's the thickness difference in the Bible with the 11 point type and 10?
    Specifically, I have a CSB Quentel with 11 pt, I'm interested in the NLT, doubting it's noticeable thinner, but hoping.
    my absolutely favorite to date, was my first high end bible. ESV, from Crossway Bibles, Classic Thinline published in with the 2007 ESV text edition. it was a gift to me in 2010. it has 6 bands in the spine, similar to the Schuyler...on later editions crossway changed their paper and newer versions has four bands in spine. it's a very noticeable feel.
