Yeah, I remember that day - I was still in highschool, but stayed at home that day, 'couse was sick. I was watching TV, when a very bright flash, that lasted about a second or so (while changing colors 3-4 times during that time). I went to the balconey and saw a trail in a sky - my first thought was plane crush (I was afraid of flight back then). I returned to the room and then came the shockwave - then I thought that it was a ballistic missile) The whole building was shaiking for a few moments - very short period, but I remember it felt to long. I even thought of earthquake, only to realise 10-15 seconds later that it's kind impossible. I stayed for half a year in US in 2019 and was a little bit disapointed, that nobody out of my friends there in CA even heard about that meteorite (or was able to remember/pronounce my city name), so I send them a few souvenir chocolate boxes with meteorite logo from our local store as a reminder when I return to Chelyabinsk).
I'm also surprised that none of your friends had heard of it. It used to be that when you would Google "Chelyabinsk", the first results spoke of the most polluted place on the planet. I was happy when after 2013 that was replaced by the meteor.
My set in stone memories are, in no order of when they happened: the attempted assassination of Ronald Reagan, the assassination of actor Rebecca Schaeffer, the assassination of John Lennon, the murder/suicide of actor Phil Hartman(murdered) and his wife Brynn(suicide), the first school shooting massacre that I recall at Columbine, the school shooting massacre at Sandy Hook elementary school(but still no effective gun control laws, SMH), when the Edmonton Oilers won their first Stanley Cup and when they won their second S.C. the next season, when the Toronto Blue Jay's won their first World Series and when they won their second W.S. the following season, when the Berlin Wall came down, the horrific Maui fires of 2023, both the Challenger and the Columbia space shuttle explosions, the terrorist attacks of 9/11, and that bizarre time that the United States elected an admitted sexual predator to their highest public office, hopefully they aren't foolish enough to let that happen again this November. There are more, but that's plenty. Open question to anyone who cares to answer: What are your moments in history that are seared into your memory?
Love your stories as always
Glad you like them!

Interesting that it had such an impact. It wasn't just some smashed windows and traffic jams.
Yeah, I'll never forget it

Thanks!
