I'm about to start teaching my son to paint (he's 8yo), and after seeing a few videos on Slapchop now, this is totally how Im going to start teaching him how to paint! Thanks for the great video.
it's really crazy how amazingly good they look for that absolute speed paint job that it is. AMAZING! You Sir really inspired me to get back to paint my minis!
I'm trying to get back into miniature painting after a long hiatus. I'm definitely going to have to give this Slapchop method a try after watching your videos.
Awesome! Love your positive attitude and enjoyment of the process. So easy to just follow these days, and its great you are able to enjoy your own ways
Just started trying this out as well to clean up a lot of the 'random npc' or bad guy models I have and save my more in depth technics for more important models and it's helping me get so many more models out and done. Still learning but liking it so far.
Just a quick question. I watch the paintvideo and i love the style of painting. Easy and pretty much anyone can do this with little to no experience in painting minis.......but !!! Watching the last part of the video where you showcase (12:48) "crossbow-wolf-guy" and he seems to have alot more white highlight on his face for example. But he didn't have it when you were painting it. Did you do exstra highlighting between takes or ??
I’ve been doing the dominion Kruleboyz in slapchop thanks to your vids. Keep up the good work these looked great! For bone I paint the teeth or claws bone acrylic paint and then use bone contrast over that
The underpainting slapchop technique is great even if it has existed for a long a time. It is time saver... And I see you also use the gamemaster paints...
One thing you might play with, as an after step, is a third dry brush of a light sand tone after the model is slap chop finished. It brings the colors together as all parts have a light edge highlight of the same tone. just a very light drybrush from the top down. I think that would make them look a little less monochrome where each painted section is all the same color. The large metal parts you could use a bright silver drybrush vs the sand. Easily take them up a notch.
@@forouza1 Absolutely honestly the chalky effect is the reason I wasn't a fan of drybrushing. But I find that the better the brush the better and less chalky the drybrush effect is. I did an alien model painted it dark grey then a black wash, then the slightest white drybrush and it turned out amazing. Moderation and a good brush.
what model of anycubic printer do you use? ive got a photon mono and my prints are no where near as smooth and beautiful as yours? am looking for an upgrade and would love the exact printer your rocking !!
It's difficult to figure out why your minis looks so great when done in "slap chop" and others' look overly contrasted (harsh black & white transitions). I suspect it may be the makeup brush you're using and your intuition on coverage of grey & white. There are other youtubers who've attempted this and dry brushing (the technique is recognized for picking out details but not necessarily doing a zenithal because dry brush doesn't have gradient). But yours are really nice despite not being predominantly white (which others have had to lean on a crutch to compensate for the harsh black & white transitions). Genuinely impressive.
Thank you so much, I have to admit I am always amazingly pleased at the result when I put little effort into what I am doing lol, its definently a Bob Ross happy accident lol 🙂
I think key step is how much grey you get down. You want a decent amount before moving over to the white dry brush. It makes a difference which contrast paints you use. A lot of Citadel contrast paints are heavy pigmented, especially newer ones. Needs a bit of contrast medium to take them down a notch. Alternatively you could do a modified slap chop method. Prime black, spray zenithal off white/grey, dark wash in recesses and dry brush white.
Slapchop (underpainting) is a great tool, but using black, grey, white to underpaint isnt ideal for all colour pallets. For example, it can make yellows come out really green, vs using warm tones underneath (dark brown, light brown, sand). There's a ton of cool colour combos you can use, like purple as the dark tone for red. So it comes down to what glazes you want to use on top.
@@jtrain9926 really great advice about the undercoat colors. Is there somewhere you learned these various tricks of color? (I'm hoping it wasn't purely through experience). I'd love to learn more about it (before accidentally finding out after having laid down a ton of paint) X_x
I think a lot of the frustration from painting comes from the paints and the brushes. Synthetic brushes are too stiff and they retain too little pain. Shitty paints are too thin, they cover almost nothing and you need 10 coats. Finding the right paints and the right brushes makes it way more enjoyable

Hi! great video! quick question! is it possible to slapchop with a GREY priming as a base?
Thanks in advance from Argentina!
Nice work, The minis came out looking great. I especially like the one with the Greatsword
Thank you, they are cool minis 🙂

What is the brush you use to dry brush with. I've been trying makeup ones but I keep getting clumps with those.
Very cool and I look forward to the day when I start getting offers LOL very cool video. 🙂Thomas over at The Model Hobbyist
Yup I do feel very lucky to receive free things 🙂
What is that basing material

Yeah this can work well if done sparingly. It can make the figure look more chalky/sandy if overdone.
YUp one day I might revisit all my models and do a dry brush or edge highlight 🙂

so cool

Hey, what's all in that box of basing material you're using? Looks really nice, especially the greenery.
Its a combination of 4 different coloured grass, some fine bits of cork and some small rocks, shaken not stirred 😋
I love your channel. I really should do some videos. I love the hobby
Thank you so much, yup its fun to make and paint things 🙂
How do you make them look so good? Mine look rubbish...

also have you seen that armypainter are doing metalic speed paints too? might be a good shout to experiment with them for your metalics maybe
What glue did you use for the bases/basing?
Cheap super glue 🙂
In my experience some contrast paints are way too dark/opaque for this, you have to thin them down quite a lot.
I ran into this issue and can confirm this with GW contrast, thin out the dark colors A LOT :)
You might be right 🙂
wow you're really getting all the milage out the SlapChop thing you can get..
SLAP.
CHOP.
SPLOOT!
Haha indeed 🙂

Differentiation … lol … I was trying to say it for you! Lol
Haha yup sometimes I have a brain fart 🙂
Happy veteran's day from an Ex-Navy guy!

As stated before: you can use Gryph-Charger Grey for metallic(Silver) pieces and Nazdreg Yellow for golden ones. ;)
Yup just no money to buy paints at the mo 🙂
