As a teenager in the 70's, to me, HE was Bach, Mozart. The gateway drug that led to Al DiMeola, and then to Allan Holdsworth. I went from around 86 to 93 or 94 where the ONLY thing I listened to was the first Steve Morse Band cassette at home, away from gigs or rehearsals. I still remember getting on a commercial flight, with my guitar in a hanger bag, and the stewardess put it in a closet on board. He came out of the cockpit, looked at me, I looked at him, shook my head, and said "no way" and went to my seat. He had cut his hair, lol. Was only able to see him live once, opening for Rush in Pensacola. THANKS for this.
TH-cam: I need a ❤ emoji for this. Steve isn't just a player--he's a composer, tech geek, and a generally fun guy to listen to as he lets us peek into his head.
What an incredible guitarist Steve is! From his being inducted into the gallery of greats in guitar player magazine to all of the other accolades, he has gotten, he has proven himself as a great guitar player and innovator. As a sidenote, I actually got to meet him at a NAMM show (The one time I was lucky to attend) and I have to say that he was absolutely one of the nicest musicians that I met there!
Steve’s album “The Introduction” changed my life as a 13 year old guitar nerd kid! With a steady diet of Zeppelin and Aerosmith at the time, Steve’s approach to composition and note choice perked my young ears. To now be able to drink my coffee and watch Steve explain composition and recording is something I’m glad I’ve lived long enough to experience. They don’t make em like Steve anymore. ❤
Steve Morse has been one of my greatest guitar heroes since I first heard his music on a college radio station way back in the early 1980's. I have since met the man on two occasions & he's such a humble & all around great guy. I'm happy to see all the success he's had since those early days, as he truly deserves it. One of the greatest guitarists, ever. Thanks for this great interview with Steve!! 👍🏻
Improv is "Creation". Either you have that, or you don't, you can not teach it. The best church pianist I ever knew could read anything put in front of her, but Improv completely escapes her. She has absolutely no idea where to start with creating something unique:) BEST thing about Improv, as it is unique and never repeated.
Can someone please tell me what the black Ernie ball thing is on the nut/headstock? Some kind of string dampener? A counter ballance? Maybe he talks about it later but haven't gotten there yet.
It's a mute/dampener he can flip up/down instantly that he made for himself to get relief from muting pressure on picking hand. I believe he discussed it with Rick Beato as well.
"Grab a coffee, loose a chorus"?!? That's a bit rough, no? I'm not sure I want to work with anyone like this if I'm in a band setting. I get it if this is hired-gun, session work.
I've been listening to Mr. Morse for almost 50 years. Steve is the Great Spectacular!

The guy who really USES his signature model - look at all of that playing wear! What a great player!
Absolute LEGEND!... superhuman....
Yeh and Look how dirty his guitar strap is! 😃
What I love about Steve Morse is that he is such a guitar nerd (in a good way). He is one of the professors. He knows what he is doing it.
So thankful to see Steve this year in Nashville with the Dregs and the Steve Morse band.

@4:18 "Necessity is the mother of invention."
I first saw Steve Morse on "The Introduction" tour in 1984. He was amazing then and now!
I remember seeing that guitar when it was new some 30 years ago, now look at the wear! And looks like the same dimarzio clip lock strap from that era!
Dude is a brilliant player.... always has been.
It was a great interview with good questions!
One of my all time favorites!
Greetings from Slovakia Steve, greatest inspiration!
Remember seeing him play in the 80s , still amazing as the old master! Kids should listen to him instead of google
Steve is AMAZING
The hero of harmonics! 🙌
Steve is a true hero

Dammit - I just bought an Engl Fireball 25. Now I'll have to trade for the Morse mini.
Nah lifes short...get both
Thanks :)
Legend. I would have loved to ask him what was it like to have Steve Walsh as a singer, those two Kansas albums are simply amazing.
As for the play like Blackmore part of the interview, I wouldn't doubt like me a good percentage of the audience were there to see Steve.
SM❤🎸🇦🇷
wildspring of knowledge
Incredible!
❤Beautiful❤ 🙂
I think you guys dig Steve Morse better than Rick Beato did.

@@liamphillips7315 Yes, he had to incorporate that dampener device into his new picking technique due to hand & wrist injuries & arthritis.
The absolute best guitarist in the world. Watch some Deep Purple video performances!😮
blue sounds best...abasi has the "THUMB" first time i saw morses "PINKY" working. its like a tentacle!
Ted Nugent older brother

Love Morse but damn this was an incoherent
