Best Tips for Walleyes on Upper Red Lake (First Ice 2023)

- This is first ice on Upper Red Lake in northern Minnesota. In this video, I get into a flurry of morning walleyes after spending the night on the lake.
Make sure to get UP-TO-DATE reports on the ice conditions before making the trip to Red Lake. Conditions can go backwards in a hurry, so make sure the info you're using is current.

That’s an interesting technique for the dead stick!! May have to look into that method!!
I love the efficiency! I might talk about it more in the future. I also love that it pins the minnow in place so the walleye doesn’t need to chase it down as much.

Quick question. Any advantage to going all fluorocarbon or could you go mono to swivel to 6 lb fluoro?
The main reason I like all fluoro is it’s a slight efficiency bump because I can cut off my leader, then make another cut a few feet above the leader and use that length as my new fluoro leader instead of digging into my bag and pulling out more line.

I use the same reel on my dead stick. They don’t feel any tension till you set the hook. Caught the majority of my walleye on last season that way

We fish it in June. Usually it’s really good. I live in Missouri. We don’t have much walleye fishing. So we go north. Thank for your videos. I really enjoy them. Ice fishing sounds like fun 👍

It’s an Otter Resort. They have all the details on the website. It might work for you, but if you wanted max size, I’d check out the Monster Lodge
Hey Nick, I know the floro vs mono is a big debate in fishing, could you elaborate on why you use floro. Appreciate your opinion as I have used mono for years for less stretch.
I like fluoro lines because they are usually lower stretch, more abrasion resistant, and fluoro sinks, which makes it easier to straighten out the line with lighter weight jigs/spoons. The biggest downside is price.

I don't believe they have them for sale. I know they've had them at sport shows in the past, but outside of that, I don't think you'll be able to find one unfortunately.

How many of these are upper red based and how many are time of year? What would you use if in late January on upper red?

People need to quit making videos on red lake ! There is already WAY tooo many people that go there it’s more of a shit show every year! Sooner or later that lake will be destroyed like too many people do to every thing else on this planet!
