So glad you guys are continuing this series. You are completely right about lowering the limits and putting a slot on them. With the new technology it's almost not fair to the fish to keep the limits at where their at. Thanks for the videos!
Thanks Mark! Hopefully everyone learns from the past.
As someone who lives up north why don’t we either share the name of all the lakes or none of them. Red and low are getting ruined by ice fishing.
Be thankful you actually live in a state that cares about warm water fisheries.. here in Idaho were watching our world class perch fishery go to crap because of no limits.. guys going on the ice keeping 20+ 15-16 inch jumbos. If ain't a salmon sturgeon or trout our state doesn't care much
@@mntc2167couldn't agree more. The ice castles are to blame the most. Over harvest and leave mountains of garbage everywhere.
Get rid of the sidescope locators
Great videos guys.
I started fishing crappies Red in 1993 through 2008. During the BOOM the DNR wanted those fish gone because the crappies were eating all the walleye fry that they were stocking. Plus, that 1995 year class that made the boom was near the end of their natural life spam. The crappies never left. They were just where we can't fish.
Great video!! The message of this video needs to be heard loud and clear for many crappie fisheries across the Midwest.
Forward facing sonar is fishing out lakes.
Nice of you to let everyone know to go fish out the crappies again.
It's all about thinking of the future. I've fished so many laks as a kid that have nothing left. It's all about letting the big ones go, and only taking what you need. Keep up the good work guys, your videos are top notch.
I love that you guys are discussing and promoting preserving the fishery ❤
A place like red lake should have a slot/limit on crappies just to protect their future. Face it people are pigs and will wipe it out again if they don’t. It’s too bad people don’t think more about what a great state this is and the fisheries it has to offer, and what we as anglers choose to do or not do and how it will affect the future.Great episode and thanks for promoting cpr!
Glad to see this series continuing! Thanks for helping spread the message, we definitely all need to help take care of our resources!
Love the message. Lower the limits, let the big ones go. Be responsible. People are not supposed to take 3 day limits in Minnesota anyway. I believe laws state yout allowed to have 1 daily limit per person. Your freezer limit equals your daily possession limit. We know its tough to manage that. But it would be nice if people practiced better fishing ethics and helped keep these great fisheries going.
Correct possession limit equals daily bag limit except in certain unique situations.
That is so awesome to hear URL is back, I was able to experience the first time and it was amazing! Can't wait to go back again now!
Really dig how you guys show how you can harvest and protect the resource, not just this episode but as a theme throughout the series. 🤙🏼
Yes!!! Totally agree with your guys' assessment of Red and how to proceed (hopefully). Love me some Chronicles and PTB too! Keep it comin boys!
So happy they are continuing this best series there is on TH-cam
Last time i fished it was 2001 and out of 4 of us we only kept 15 and it was almost 40 lbs of fish. Was mind blowing. Can’t wait to go back
Glad to see the CC is coming back for a new season. Looking forward to following your adventures! 🐟
So glad this series is back for another season. 😊
Best series on TH-cam, great message, hope you guys do this for many seasons to come!
What a great surprise! Looking forward to the new season.
This is amazing! I'm so excited for this season boys! It's going to be a banger!
Glad to see CC is back and happy you're featuring crappies on Upper Red. Ice conditions this winter are a lot different than last year, so for those out fishing be aware of the ice conditions, 35 anglers floated away from the shoreline up near Beacon Harbor Resort this past weekend. Kudos for the commentary about being conservative about the crappie harvest. I would also like to add that a day or two on the ice there can provide a lot of fishing diversity. As Pink stated early in this video, he was angling for drum, a vastly under appreciated native fish. One can also angle for walleye, northern and whitefish. A great multi-species angling experience imo.
This is the best MN Crappie Ice Fishing video ever and I've seen hundreds if not over a thousand.
Thank you! Means a lot.
I can't wait to get on some ice! Great video 👍
This firesssss me right up to slam slabs! DELETED 😂😂 awesome vid/ message about Red boys! Happy Days
DELETED. Thanks Sobi! Happy Days 🍻
Great video and great conservation of the resource!
So pumped to see Season 4 is going be a thing , thank you all for the work you put in.
Looking forward to getting my hands on a Tikka Flash and seeing you this Saturday at Thorn Bros 😎🎣
See ya there Daryl! We can help ya pick a few out.
Another season!!!
SO glad to see it continue!!!
Looking forward to see what this season brings!
my day got so much better when i saw ur post
Love it boys! Glad to hear URL is back with Crappies!!!
I'm super jelly not going to lie😂 well done boys put a hurting on em.
Great job guys!! Love your videos & all the interesting places you go crappie fishing!!I look forward to watching this entire season!! Good stuff!👍👍👍 Danny W
Now my day is not so crappie!
I see what ya did there
Hi, from Saskatchewan. This is the third time I watched this video. I am absolutely stoked for this upcoming season, both my ice fishing and yours. Your work in Maine and now Red Lake to encourage the ice-fishing community toward sustainable fishing is impressive. Keep up the great work.
Thank You!
Super Stoked about the new season! Hopefully we get better ice this year in New Hampshire so I can get on some slabs!!! Happy Fishing!
😂 taking all the 12s will do just as much damage. Those are the future 😅😅
Great video guys! I'm fairly new to MN but I've been hearing about the world class crappie in Red Lake since I moved up here from Iowa. I just liked, subscribed, and shared the video with my brother. I appreciate the message you guys shared about preserving the integrity of the lake. Thanks for the great content!
5 good fish go along way! Keep up the good work 👏
Awesome as always
The same thing happened to lake Winnie when the jumbo perch where 100 limit per person. my dad said when he was young everyone was limiting out and going home with truck loads of jumbo perch. Then they switched to limit to 50 then 20. Lake Winnie went through a down trend as well for awhile but now you can see it coming back and they are bigger than before! 13 - 15 inch perch and they are like sharks and will eat anything in front of them lol. Super cool to see some of these lakes coming back strong :) gotta keep these lakes safe now and experience it!
I was lucky enough to experience the boom
Can't wait to get back up there!
Glad you guys are back!!! And I ordered a bunch of those new Clam baits!!!!
Good luck this year!!
Back in 2005 we fished the rainy river during the day in our boats catching 50 walleyes a day. Then we would head to Red to go pound slabs for the late afternoon bite. Some of the best fishing I’ve ever experienced. I had a day that I caught 3 walleyes over 27” and then to catch a few crappies over 16” on the ice was just unreal.
Awesome!
Proper documentation of what Just Because you CAN doesn't mean you SHOULD means....
Love this series!
Can't wait for ice season!
Just got a Tikka flash! Love this series, thanks for continuing it
Let's go! Can't wait
3 men 1 hole, think I have seen this video before 😂
NSFW
8 man crew 125 huge crappies 40 minutes! During that hype! I was like 12 years old. We mad like 14 holes in a circle. When they bit you drop 3 lines down the same hole jerk then up drop down just a hook no bait!!
Great my friend 👍
Great video fellas! See you guys at the Saint Paul ice show!
See ya there CJ!
It looks like a bomb pop
Great video. I’ve been all about selective harvest for about a decade now. I mostly fish catch and release. I only keep what I’m going to eat that same day or the next day. I don’t like going to the freezer to get my supper. I want it fresh out of the water.
Those fish never went away.
I remember those days. I is hard to believe that you had to drill two overlapping holes to be able to land these crappies.
I can't tell you how many times I've lost crappies because a 10" hole wasn't big enough. 🤔
My personal best is a 3.14 lb crappie. Way bigger than a 5 gallon bucket lid.
Nice that they are coming back. We tend to be a little selfish when it comes to needing limits. Some nice pointers about not to always keep limits. Maybe the DNR can actually help us for once.
Great video boys! Way to crush em
Great video! I think it’s important to also call attention to how long fish are out of water in cold weather, and making sure you dunk your metal bump board to get it wet before placing wet fish on it (your fish will stick to it otherwise). Absolutely release the breading fish and don’t keep your limit just to keep your limit, but also important is being cognizant of these other critical items as well.
Best thing you can do is to talk to the local biologist. Kansas in the early 2000's they wanted you to keep a 50 fish limit to protect the forage base during a severe drought.
Literally fishing on my boat this Thanksgiving on upper red today then heading to the rainy river Saturday
Very nice awesome crappies were I live the crappies are half size of them you guys catching
Man LETS GO!!!! How about we call it just The Flash.
LFG!!
Was wondering why the new pinhead minnows in black and silver don’t have red hooks ? Also where can I order some #16 trebles to replace
Just got my chronicles custom pinheads in the mail!! You guys designed two of the best looking color patterns of all the clam normal patterns. I didn’t realize the white and silver one glowed until I got them. Super pumped to try them out.
That color is A+++++
What weight of the tika flash were you using? I got some 1/32 oz to try out
Are the new colors on your website or where can they be purchase .. what’s smallest sice they make ??
@@travisfuller7405 everything is at Thorne Bros. Buy in the store or online.
1/32 is the smallest.
The silver ones glow ???? Or u talking about a different color ?
If you find em' catch a few to keep, send the larger ones back. Simple enough.
Precisely!
The original crappie boom was only because of the walleye crash. It was unnatural, but glorious!
Love the content but reason why the crappie number went down were not what yall think. Sure fishing pressure was a part but low numbers of walleye during the 90s due to netting is the reason why the crappies blossomed. When the crappies were the main predator in the lake they exploded. Once the dnr starting stocking the lake wuth shit tons of eyes to combat netting is when the crappies disappeared to where they are now.
Love what you guys are doing, I really hope that the DNR listens and changes some rules to help the population flourish
It wasnt quite that good in the 2000s at the end. I went there every year starting in 2000 till 2006 and we only ever hit them like you guys were talking twice. The beginning of the boom yes. Tons of fish. It wasnt that great towards the end. But it is coming back and im all for it. I think ill be going this year to try it again.
Thanks for bringing it back! 100% agree to the philosophy of keeping a few, but always let the BigOnes go! #Crappiestuardship
Hey Craig! Hit me up on Instagram, Facebook, or shoot me an email, you won a year subscription to the One Boat Network app. Get a hold of me and I’ll get you a code. 👊🏻
We need the crappie chronicles blackfish pull over order this season !!!
Limited Edition Order will go Live Black Friday and it'll only be available a couple days. That's the only order we're gonna do of them as of now.
@@adambartusek perfect 🤩
Always heard about that crappie boom. Hopefully it stays! Maybe the MN DNR needs to lower the limit to 5 and a slot there. It won’t take long before it goes back down again if they leave regs the same.
"Let's take care of the fishery" Also let's produce a youtube show and basically invite all of minnesota to fill the buckets again...
I agree lower the limit but if they make it a catch and release only it will end up destroying resorts just like it did to many on mille lacs. Maybe put a closed season on panfish like there was in the old days.
Incredible Crappie’s 🤯 ‼️New Sub here.
Thanks for joining!
Minnesotans : "Release every big crappie you catch" Also Minnesotans - shoot the very first buck with antlers that walks out! lol
The tikka flashes been out for a while guys 👍
Not at the time this was filmed
Anyone else remember when guys were bringing em home by the hundreds?
When your looking for crappie do you look at Lake maps and if you do how you breaking it down
Weve been catching them since 2014.
Another great video from a great group of guys! Can't wait for hardwater season now! Where does one get some sweet CC merch? I see your old site is closed ☹️ Definitely going to be pickin up the new cookbook!
New merch site will be up Black Friday.
The great part about red lake is you can practice catch and release. Fishing lake of the woods for crappie you can’t release fish due to how deep you’re fishing.
No one knows the crappie better or caught bigger crappie on URL than the legendary IBOTS. The IBOTS were legends on that lake.
LEGENDARY tales of the IBOTS. That’s a great throwback 👍🏼
Videos like this are part of the problem. Same thing going on with the walleyes. It’s like sending an invitation out to all ice anglers in the Midwest to get up there and pound the shit out them. Way too many people going up there and with the live scopes and wheelhouses. There’s no way it will last. 😢. The DNR needs to drop the limit to five fish along with a slot ASAP!
Awesome job guys, this is Goose Gutzman and looking forward to seeing more videos..👊💯🎣🎣🎣🎣🔥🔥
Hey goose 👋🖐️👋
What size of those baits are you preferring1/32 or 1/16 for the crappie? Love the vids and I’m excited to watch for the new season.
3/32 is our fav for crappies. 1/16 is good too. The 1/32 is tiny, definitely for bluegills.
Great video! Watching from PA.! Won't have ice here til mid January!! HOPEFULLY!!!
What size were those Tikka Flash lures?? 1/32??
We used the 1/16 and the 3/32. If you’re just fishing crappies I’d recommend the 3/32. They’re much smaller than you think.
You guys should fish lake Minnetonka!
the last 2 yrs in the cleaning shack i seen half buckets full of 15 and 16 and people with 6 or 8 just huge ones 16s and what not,,, it was super sad watching them get cut
#RIP 😢
What’s he using to get the hooks out of there fishes mouths?
That's the thing some people don't get when u keep those bigger fish how much that hurts the lakes.im all for catch and release.
Where do you guys think these fish came from? The lake has been fished from 5-16ft for 10 years for walleyes with no sign of the crappies and last year all of these adult fish just showed up out of no where.
1) A lot of these fish are 3-5 years old. They had some really good spawns around 2019. So they’re not necessarily “adults”.
2) They avoided people well. Like Griff said, there’s a lot more small schools now (if you consider a group of 50-100 small). But there’s not just a couple mega schools.
3) They were chilling in a basin on the other side till the population got so big and they matured enough to go chase shallow mud flats.
Daily limit and poss. limit is 10 to a person with a LIC. The first boom came on because of over fishing walleyes by netting.
Crappies built the resorts, bait shops, gas station, the walleyes did not.
If it really is back, it will be gone, because no one will stop just because, AGREED they need to change the Regs to a special limit,.
People will just SAY, I drove this far and I am owed a limit of fish- never mind that they have 5 other limits in the freezer.
Kudos to you guys!!! It makes me SICK when people abuse the fish population! DNR needs to get extremely aggressive on this lake or it’ll be gone before you know it!!!
When was this?
Which Thorne Brothers store will you be at today? Thanks! Enjoy your newest videos. Keep up the great work!
Their store in Blaine, MN!
Hope we had a great turnout yesterday? Unfortunately I didn't make it to meet you guys.
